DOJ Vows To Crack Down On Racial Gerrymandering

As AMAC Newsline recently reported, the Supreme Court has handed down a landmark ruling in Louisiana v. Callais that effectively declares racial gerrymandering unconstitutional. The Democrats had abused Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), insisting that it allowed them to draw majority-minority congressional districts in which it was all but impossible for Republicans to win. The Court ruled that this was an impermissible application of Section 2, and the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ) has pledged to aggressively enforce the ruling.

Just The News reports, “United States Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon said Thursday that the Justice Department will enforce the Supreme Court’s decision on racially gerrymandering districts in every state that has such a district.”

This will be no small undertaking, however. Ballotpedia, analyzing data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey, estimates that majority-minority districts account for more than half (122 of 212) of the Democrat-controlled seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

It is, of course, probable that some of these districts just happen to be racially lopsided. In fact, according to Ballotpedia, there are 26 majority-minority House districts held by Republicans, about 11 percent of their 218 seats. But more than 57 percent of the Democrat House Caucus consists of majority-minority districts. It is simply not plausible that this percentage would be so high unless there is some skullduggery involved—namely racial gerrymandering. Immigration expert Alicia Nieves explains at UnHerd how the game has worked in recent decades:

“Democrat-aligned law firms led by the Elias Law Group… turned to a 1986 Supreme Court precedent to advance the theory that Section 2 requires the creation of majority-minority districts wherever the demographic math could be made to support one… The targets expanded with each cycle: first majority-black districts, then majority-Latino, then Native American, and, most ambitiously, ‘coalition districts’ combining black, Latino, and Asian voters into a single legally protected class.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais put a stop to this perversion of the VRA. As the opinion’s author, Justice Samuel Alito, phrased it on page 6: “Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act… was designed to enforce the Constitution—not collide with it.” In other words, the VRA explicitly prohibits “voting practices or procedures that discriminate on the basis of race.” The effect of this Supreme Court ruling is that the 28 states that have majority-minority district maps will probably be forced to revisit and redraw some portion of their congressional maps.

The Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Eric Schmitt (R-MO), wrote a letter to the DOJ urging expeditious action on the Supreme Court’s ruling: “The Civil Rights Division has participated in, monitored, or influenced redistricting litigation for years. It should therefore identify the universe of districts created, preserved, or defended under the old Section 2 regime and determine whether they survive Callais.” Assistant Attorney General Dhillon responded, “Senator—we are ON IT!”

This inevitably produced all manner of attacks on Dhillon from Democrats and the corporate news media, who have been denouncing her from the moment she was nominated to head the Civil Rights Division. The general accusation is that, since taking over the division, she has actually worked to roll back voting rights. For example, she was accused of “providing cover” for congressional redistricting by Texas in 2025. This is a reference to a letter she wrote to Texas Governor Greg Abbott advising him that four of the state’s districts were unconstitutionally drawn:

“This letter will serve as formal notice by the Department of Justice to the State of Texas of serious concerns regarding the legality of four of Texas’s congressional districts. As stated below, Congressional Districts TX-9, TX-18, TX-29 and TX-33 currently constitute unconstitutional ‘coalition districts’ and we urge the State of Texas to rectify these race-based considerations from these specific districts… It is well-established that so-called ‘coalition districts’ run afoul of the Voting Rights Act.”

This doesn’t read like it was composed by someone trying to provide cover for Texas or trying to roll back voting rights, but the letter has routinely been provided as proof that Dhillon is guilty of both. Likewise, her willingness to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais is another black mark on her name, according to the Democrats. Democracy Docket, a newsletter produced by the above-noted Elias Law Group, brays: “The Trump administration confirmed Friday it will target Black and Latino-majority voting districts across the country.”

How did the administration supposedly confirm that? “Harmeet Dhillon made clear the Justice Department plans to go after ‘majority-minority’ districts—where Black and Latino voters are a majority of the population and have historically been able to elect candidates of their choice.”

In reality, of course, Dhillon and the DOJ aren’t going after “black” or “Latino” districts – they are going after districts that are unconstitutionally racially gerrymandered. Dhillon would be equally justified in going after districts drawn specifically to group together white voters, if any existed.

The reality is that Democrats don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to racial gerrymandering. They took a law passed to combat discrimination and used it to construct an entirely new – and similarly egregious – discriminatory regime that favored voters loyal to them.

That is why the DOJ is planning to vigorously enforce Louisiana v. Callais – and why it is completely justified in doing so.

Black people in the South need to understand that there is nothing in the Constitution that requires that they be represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Black representatives.

They were not represented by Black representatives during the first 200 years of our country. Unless they want to run their candidates in Republican primaries, they should not expect Black representation in the U.S. House in the near future.

Discuss all that you want, but gerrymandering is the fault of both parties, not just one. And the biggest reason is try to slant & influence elections.

The truth is that there wouldn’t be nearly as many black representatives in Congress without the racial stuff. Martin Luther King would be so ashamed of the push by the liberals to recreate racism. Sad that the “Democrats” can’t just tell the truth, stop trying to recreate racism where it doesn’t exist and just stop all the bellyaching about everything. I’m so sick of it. Who the heck cares what color people are? What an absolute waste of time this all is. I do think its funny that the push with “Jim Crow 2.0” encouraged an entire generation of people who never would have known to actually go look up what the Southern white Democrats did to black Americans with THEIR Jim Crow laws, THEIR KKK, THEIR SPLC, I could go on and on. The last time I looked, white is a color too. As a matter of fact, white is all colors together. Black is no color or lack of color.

Yeah, well, good luck with that.

“Race” will never go away, because the Dems won’t LET it go away! Dem politicians are getting waaaaaay too much ‘mileage’ out of it by making everydamnthing about it. “Just keep stirrin’ folks up. It’s a winner!”

To me this practice should be against the law. No representation for voters due to political views, Same with the electoral college. Most all the New England states have no republicans at all for being representative even though there are a lot of republican voters, and states like California give all the electoral vote to democrats even though they have a large republican voters in areas of the state. AND ALL THESE ARE ONLY due to having a large democratic state house allowing the unfair system, that I wonder why the courts have allowed this.

Dan W. has encouraged me to be ridiculous (see Reply to Roseann Carter). I propose we restructure the districts by Blood Type. Let us get down to the cellular level where we can truly say “We are created equal.”

Once again the democrats are trying to circumvent the Supreme Court with lies and innuendo going as far that the Supreme Court should be dismantled and replaced with their politicized judges. Every time they get their hands slapped because they do something against the law and rules like in this case of racism’s gerrymandering they scream foul. The will not accept the laws of the land like they won’t accept that a man cannot have a child or breastfeed. They are not only stupid they also go against common sense. Destroying.our culture, our children, the law and order in this country. They rewrite history like AOC said over the weekend that the Revolutionary war was fought against billionaires. I don’t think they had billionaires back then. That’s not the point, the point is they can’t win in today’s atmosphere of a constitutional republic. They have rewritten the history ever since Autopen was installed in the White House. They are no match for President Trump. They bring court case after court case and lose everyone of them. They try again and bring up the past all the way back to the founding of this country. The statement made by AOC shows how important civics is as a curriculum in the schools. Foreigners know more about America than the citizens descended from the founding citizens who fought in the revolutionary war. So sad to see these stupid dems still hold powerful positions in this country while destroying the country.

I don’r know how the Democrats do this and get away with it,is it because the republicans are not doing their job of policing the Democrats,I say YES.We need to clean out our party if we ever hope to have a party that works for us the way it was always meant to be.I guess its true about what happens when you go to Washington.

Dems talk like, if they didn’t discriminate & create predominantly black districts, then black people wouldn’t be able to vote… They also believe black people are so poor, backwards & ignorant they don’t know how to get ID’s, don’t have internet, don’t know how to operate a computer…. & Desperately need the Democratic party for everything – what an insulting, demeaning load of BS – all this from the party of segregation, the KKK, & the Jim Crow laws.

I wish I had the facts to prove that our US congress, and even some of our state legislatures, being influenced by this gerrymandering, is why they are held in such a low approval. Does any group have a lower approval than our congress? Just wondering

Gerrymandering, let alone racial gerrymandering is wrong. Period. We all know it’s politics over proper conduct. Every time one party or the other thinks it needs an edge, here comes the gerrymandering team. Of all the tactics that get used, this one does more damage to voting efforts, and rights than any other. Why must we continue to play this game, when we know the voter is ultimately the loser? No one can answer that question….because they don’t want to….and reveal the truth about themselves. Politics!
