Why Shopping Matters

Identical Coverage. Wildly Different Price.

Because Medigap is standardized, paying more buys you nothing extra. The only thing that changes between carriers is the premium — so the only job is finding the lowest one.

Carrier B

Carrier C

The wrong carrier can cost ~$1,150 more a year for the exact same benefits. An AMAC advisor finds the lowest price — and by law can't mark it up. Premium ranges per KFF (2024); your quote varies by ZIP and age.
Your Options

Which Medigap Plan Fits?

There are several lettered plans, but most people land on one of these three. An advisor models the real cost of each for you.

Plan G

The most popular choice — comprehensive coverage with the most predictable costs.

  • Covers everything but the small Part B deductible
  • No surprise bills after that
  • See any doctor that takes Medicare
  • Best for predictability

Plan N

A lower premium in exchange for small copays at the time of care.

  • Lower monthly premium than G
  • Small copays (e.g. ~$20 office, ~$50 ER)
  • Great value if you don't visit often
  • Same any-doctor freedom

Plan F

The richest coverage — but only available if you were eligible before 2020.

  • Covers the Part B deductible too
  • Only for those eligible before Jan 1, 2020
  • Often pricier than G for the same care
  • We'll tell you if G is the better buy

Common Questions

Medigap, Straight

When can I buy a Medigap plan?
Your best window is your one-time Medigap Open Enrollment — the 6 months that start when you're 65 and enrolled in Part B. During it, you can buy any plan with no health questions and no chance of being turned down. We'll make sure you don't miss it.
Can I be turned down?
Not during your Medigap Open Enrollment window — coverage is guaranteed. Outside that window, most states let insurers ask health questions, which is exactly why the timing matters. An advisor can tell you where you stand.
Plan G or Plan N — which is better?
Plan G gives you the most predictable, near-zero out-of-pocket costs. Plan N trades a lower premium for small copays at the time of care. If you don't visit the doctor often, N can save money; if you want zero surprises, G wins. We model both with real numbers.
Does Medigap cover my prescriptions?
No — Medigap covers medical costs, not drugs. You'll pair it with a separate Part D prescription plan, which we set up for you at the same time.
Should I get Medigap or Medicare Advantage?
It depends on how you like to get care. Medigap means freedom (any doctor) and predictability; Medicare Advantage means a lower premium and extras, but networks. We'll compare both honestly — see Medicare Advantage →
