Does a Veteran Who Uses VA Healthcare Need Medicare at Age 65?

Dear Rusty,

I’m not yet old enough, but must I enroll in Medicare at Age 65? I am a disabled military veteran with VA benefits, so must I still take Medicare when I turn 65?

Dear Disabled Veteran:

First, please accept my gratitude for your military service to our country. And please also know that if you now rely 100% on the VA for all your healthcare needs, and you expect that to continue for the rest of your life, then you have the option to decline enrolling in Medicare Part B when you turn 65.
