The Honorable Shirley K. Turner
New Jersey District 15
State House Annex
Trenton, NJ 08625

Dear State Senator Turner,

On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), with over 2 million members nationwide, we write in support of State Senate Bill S.271, Elder Abuse Prevention Enhancements.

Protecting vulnerable seniors from violence and abuse is a fundamental responsibility of government. Older Americans have spent a lifetime contributing to their families, communities, and our nation. They deserve to live free from fear, exploitation, and physical harm. When criminals target elderly persons because of their age or perceived vulnerability, those acts warrant serious consequences.

Your legislation strengthens accountability by enhancing penalties for assaults committed against elderly individuals and persons with disabilities. The bill reinforces the principle that the law should provide meaningful protections for those who are most vulnerable to victimization. Strong enforcement of criminal laws is a core public safety function, and this bill appropriately focuses on holding offenders accountable rather than creating new bureaucratic programs.

Our members across the country and in the state of New Jersey believe in personal responsibility, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of vulnerable citizens. S.271 advances these principles by ensuring that those who intentionally inflict harm on seniors face penalties that reflect the seriousness of their actions. The legislation also serves as a deterrent, helping to protect older residents and providing greater peace of mind to families and caregivers.

AMAC Action is proud to support S. 271. Thank you for your commitment to the safety and security of New Jersey's seniors.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Bengtson
Vice President

AMAC Action is now calling on the Senate to swiftly pass the bill. At a time when hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars are lost to fraud each year, the Deporting Fraudsters Act represents a necessary and long-overdue step toward restoring accountability. Ensuring that those who abuse the system are removed from the country is not just sound policy – it is a basic obligation that lawmakers have to the American people.
