AMAC Action’s growing influence in Washington took a meaningful step forward last Friday, as AMAC member Nancy Overman provided testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee during a field hearing in Las Vegas, Nevada. Overman, a retired hospital and hospice volunteer manager, was one of six Nevadans selected to speak directly to lawmakers about how President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill would impact everyday Americans.
Her testimony was heartfelt, thoughtful, and representative of the values AMAC members bring to the policy table: practical solutions, respect for hard work, and a belief in fiscal responsibility.
“For me personally,” Overman told the committee, “this deduction means that I will be better able to manage the basics like groceries, utilities, and the occasional unexpected expense without draining what little savings I have left.” She was referring to the bill’s $6,000 middle-class senior tax deduction – one of several provisions designed to ease the financial pressure on retirees living on fixed incomes.
Overman explained that she was a registered Democrat for 38 years but became disillusioned after a frustrating experience with government-run healthcare policies. “After needing foot surgery and experiencing firsthand the bureaucratic nightmare created by big government healthcare policies, I had a change of heart,” she said. She’s now been a Republican for 20 years – and voted for President Trump three times.
Overman added that during President Trump’s first term, she was able to live within her means and manage her budget. “But under President Biden, inflation hit hard, and I was forced to dip into my personal savings just to keep up with everyday costs. That is why I strongly support the policies in the One Big Beautiful Bill.”
Overman’s testimony reflects the growing impact that AMAC members have on public discourse, even at the highest levels of government. While AMAC Action staff regularly meet with members of Congress and weigh in on legislation, Overman’s testimony is representative of members themselves taking center stage.
During her testimony, Overman also highlighted several key provisions of the legislation that will help working families and small business owners. She noted that her son, who works a job with significant overtime, stands to benefit from the bill’s tax exemption for overtime pay. “When the economy grows,” she said, “everyone benefits, from seniors like me to young families starting out.”
She also praised the bill’s expansion of Health Savings Accounts as “one of the most practical reforms we have seen in years,” giving Americans more flexibility and control over their healthcare spending.
In her closing remarks, Overman offered her perspective as a grandmother. “Knowing our government is taking illegal drugs and fentanyl and criminals out of this country helps me sleep better at night. I take comfort in knowing my children and grandchildren are better protected because of the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill.”
Her remarks stood out during a hearing that at times became contentious. While most participants offered policy-focused remarks, one lawmaker, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), hurled an expletive at the panel – a moment that underscored the political tension surrounding the legislation. Nevertheless, Overman remained composed and focused throughout her testimony.
Overman’s participation was the culmination of months of advocacy by AMAC members. When AMAC Action launched its national push to support the One Big Beautiful Bill, more than 13,000 members contacted their representatives in just 24 hours. That number eventually exceeded 40,000, with members sending messages and visiting Capitol Hill to advocate for passage of the legislation.
The hearing in Las Vegas gave lawmakers a chance to hear directly from those whose lives will be most affected by the new tax policies. For AMAC Action, it also served as a reminder that its grassroots members aren’t just supporting legislative priorities from afar – they are directly engaged in the national conversation and offering valuable perspectives in the process.
“Nancy’s testimony reflected the concerns and hopes of so many AMAC members across the country,” said AMAC Action Senior Vice President Andy Mangione. “We’re proud of her courage and clarity, and we’re committed to making sure more of our members have the opportunity to be heard.”
As the One Big Beautiful Bill begins delivering results for the American people, AMAC Action will continue building momentum for policies that reward work, protect retirement security, and promote economic opportunity for Americans of all ages.

Jimmy Gomez is typical of most all members of the Progressive Party, when they don’t agree or when they don’t get their own way, they just start throwing tantrums and start cussing at people. Civil discord is an unknown to them. Any negotiating is outlawed by them. It’s either their way or no way. I’ll never vote Democrat again, mostly because it is no longer a Democrat Party. It’s just the Progressive Party hiding under the Democrat banner.
More of us like Mrs. Overman needing to boldly speak up while maintaining absolute civility in the provided public forums. I absolutely applaud you Mrs. Overman.
In agreement – her remarks highlight why I am still working while past ‘retirement’ age in order to survive the inflation of the past 5 years.
We owe her a big thank you. Once again it was shown to the world we on the right have our facts and can calmly relate them to the world. Again the democrats had to use swear words to get their point across. None of their spokes people can form a sentence or go through an interview without expletives. Hunter Biden comes to mind, Stephen Colbert for another. In fact any democrat. Schumer is in that group. When they know they are wrong they scream and spout garbage. All because they have nothing what the citizens want. And when you are losing all that is left is scream in frustration. Only the people are onto them. The AOCs and Crocketts of the world are making money from what they are are screaming by selling merchandise with their slogans advertised on it. You can’t govern via a t shirt or a coffee mug.
Nancy showed poise and grace by telling the truth. Thank you for you spoke for all of us.
Should elected representatives be free to “hurl expletives” at citizens appearing before a congressional panel? It seems wrong on so many levels.
Good for the testimony of Ms. Overman.
Bravo President Trump———thank you for making America Great Again, and God Bless you.
Thank you, Ms. Overman, for speaking on behalf of so many of us. You did it with class and facts — something a lot of people here in the D.C. area are not familiar with. And THANK YOU TO AMAC!
The democrat party of escalating taxes, anti-American sentiment, anti-law enforcement support, endless protests,( often violent). Nothing left to love in the left. Pity.
So true, Ms. Overman. I, too, am in the same boat and this means the world to me. Thank you for your testimony. So glad AMAC is making a difference.
Donkeys, aka Dems, are stubborn. There way or forget it. They will dig their heels in and refuse to listen. Elephants, on the other hand are empathetic, caring, form strong family units, watch out for each other and frequently help other animals. Gee, the two symbols are strikingly accurate!
I would have been happier if they had just taken the taxes off Social Security income and let us have our whole check each month. The $6,000 deduction is only going to last for a few years and then what?
Won’t help me. I’m a senior but not senior enough to qualify. Would prefer no tax on SSI.
A deduction comes off your income tax. How is that going to help with day-to-day expenses? This does nothing to help seniors in the middle class tax bracket. It’s another smoke-and-mirror trick by congress to pretend they are helping us. $6,000 sounds good until you realize that even if it was real money, it’s $500 a month, $125 a week. But it’s not real money, it’s a tax deduction. If you already fell into the range of no tax, you will never see a dime of it. If you pay a little tax, you’ll pay a little less but probably not $6,000 less. Good luck with all that extra pretend cash.
I also supported the OBBB. However, I don’t yet understand how it gives any real relief to people like me who are lower end middle class. I did not take social security until I was 70 and worked ad additional 10 years to save money when I had SSI to support my income. Nevertheless I am happy about the common sense that is returning to the Federal government and the surge of young people who are searching for answers through faith in God and the promise seen in a conservative way of life. There is power in work and a way of life that lets you feel proud you are capable of making your own way.
I’m glad this will help some seniors; but what about all the seniors who don’t even get enough SS, despite working they’re whole lives, to owe Income Tax??
I wish more ‘senior’ org. would remind politicians that it’s seniors that show up at the voting booths, and to make calls, and knock on doors! Guess who Bidens inflaction hurt the worse?
Seniors on fixed incomes, who can’t go back to work! Seniors who’s life savings have lost value, in the bank getting little to no interest (.05%); while Gen Z’s (who won’t go to work) complain about mortgages at 5 to 7%. First they have to go to work, then they have to SAVE up a down payment! Remember the 80’s?? 11 & 12% interest on mortgages??
You want to help seniors give back the social security funds stolen for a start reduce the retirement age instead of pushing it up give them free home health aid I could go on but it would a novel by the end instead of giving other nations trillions of dollars how bout helping Americans for a change period
As a senior, that $6000 extra deduction is a big help to those of us on a fixed income…now if we could stop Washington state from raising the property tax or better yet, stop that tax at 65…I believe we have paid enough.
Thank you Nancy, for your representing the facts. And to any who would argue the expense of the BBB, let me remind you, that this congress and our President, are for the first time implementing a plan that will actually make money for our nation. Between enhancing our economy, to the tariffs on countries doing business with our nation, we will see an improvement in our national debt, I believe. And, the dimocrat party can only rant and curse, when facts over ride their limp ideas.
Cursing at the panel of a Congressional field hearing should be cause for censure.
“(H)urled an expletive at the panel – a moment that underscored the political tension surrounding the legislation” is being nice. The way I would’ve written it is “hurled an expletive at the panel – a moment that underscores the audacity, self-righteousness, and degrading attitude surrounding the demoRATS now-a-days.
It’s actually a degradation of themselves (which is fine w us) BUT of the office as well. Decorum is lost on demoRATS and letting him get away with this is only signaling that further crassness will go unpunished until there is no decorum at all.
Now I pray our family living in East Coast can live independently with little or no help!
08/06/25 Respect for the Offices and civil behavior, self-control matter, it seems democrats have neither! Thanks for your mature cool head with respect to your testimony with Satan PUPPETS present also Mrs. Overman, truly a desciple of Christ I see Jesus strength in You! Amen
Proud of this lady! She spoke for so many of us.
It’s wonderful that Mrs. Overman had an opportunity to speak with members of Congress. Most of the time Lobbyists are the only ones speaking with Congress and each lobbying group has their own agenda. So it’s refreshing to have every day citizens address Congress on how their legislation actually affects their constituents. Hearing from actual taxpayers directly is sometimes more beneficial than a paid lobbyist. Jimmy Gomez is one of the reasons that the Democrat Party is suffering the lowest ratings in history. They forget that they are supposed to be representing the American taxpayer and that their actions affect the lives of every citizen.
Can relate to Ms. Overmans experience. As a retiree was financially secure under President Trumps first term but lost most everything during Biden’s period in office. Am sure most seniors in same boat. Now with Trump back in office am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Trump truly acts in the best interest of Americans and is rebuilding our nation.
It is so disgusting to see how Democrats are trying to destroy America rather than acting in what is best for our citizens and our founding fathers’ principles. Communist have used TDS and the media to take focus off the greatness of America and the criminal behavior of the Deep State (both Republican and Democrat, but 100% of Democrats)!!!
Until Trumps reelection America was following Hitlers Mein Kampf strategy giving rise to the Nazi’s takeover of Germany by ridding the nation of God and moral behavior and allowing government to decide what one must believe and destroying individual liberties and freedom. That is clearly why they are trying to destroy President Trump as he is only one standing in their way of destroying our country.
This country can NOT afford DEMS any more
This Big Bill benefits only some seniors. Republicans have been joining the Dem idea of wealth distribution.
Great! The middle class get a $6,000 tax deduction. I can’t wait to take it.
Thanks President Trump!!!
I am grateful for our representation by Amac. But disappointed that she didn’t highlight that the social security No tax wasn’t brought up. Far prefer that promise was given. $6,000 means very little. Linda
Jimmy “Jackass” Gomez should be removed. Of course, this is normal for California democrat politicians and the fruits and nuts who vote for them.
Yes, by all means let’s praise the Big Bad Bill that did NOT give us tax free SS but gave us a $6,000 deduction instead. Let’s praise that bill that did nothing else for seniors or anyone else. It is a disaster and it will be proven such in the very near future. Tax season is just a few months away and that’s when everyone will realize you have been betrayed.
Nancy spoke for ALL seniors in her position! GREAT testimony, Nancy! Thank you!
Agree !!! ????????????
Why doesn’t AMAC address the trust fund running out in 7 or 8 years. We’re all going to be screaming when they reduce our benefits by 23 or 25 percent. I’m disappointed in AMAC. They’re just a political PAC for the Republican party like AARP is for the Democrats. I wish there was an independent senior organization that just addressed our issues without so much favoritism for one party.
You know what would be better than the $6000 deduction we miserable peons were “allowed”?
The “no tax on Social Security” the Pedo in Chief promised.
Lots of busted promises by Trump. “Immediate release of the Epstein files and “full transparency throughout government”. What happened with that other than Trump finding out he is featured prominently in the Epstein files and that the good Mr. Epstein was a tool of Trumps beloved Israeli intelligence.
You might get mad reading this and too bad but I am not lying and you all know it.
