Let’s talk truth. America is about assimilation, “e pluribus unum,” or “from many, one.” Without it, we fail. Maine is not Michigan, which has 241,000 Muslims and sees regular outbursts, assertions, and counters on Sharia Law. Maine has only 5000 Muslims, but assimilation is still vital.
So, consider five facts:
First, Maine and the United States were founded by Christians. Those Christian values fortified the Mayflower pilgrims, a historical fact worth discussing at Thanksgiving. Those values fortified George Washington, Valley Forge to Yorktown, and his men – barefoot in snow – to take Trenton.
The courageous signers of our Declaration of Independence, the framers of our Constitution, and Americans from that time to the present have adhered to Christian values; our Republic is founded on principles such as individual liberty, limited government, respect for others, faith, charity, and love.
Wrote John Adams: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” By religious, he meant conscience-centered, liberty-loving, and – while tolerant of others’ beliefs – historically Christian or Judeo-Christian.
Second, our 1st Amendment honors the sanctity of mind and heart, what Christians and Jews call “free will,” meaning we are invited to accept Biblical truths and a loving God, but we are never compelled to do so. Under no circumstances does coercion, forced worship, fit with America.
The wording of our Constitution’s 1st Amendment is this: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof …” While much litigated, the goal: Government cannot force a specific brand of Biblical (or non-Biblical) learning on any citizen. Fearing government control by the Church of England, our Founders wanted “free exercise.”
Interestingly, however, “free exercise” and “free will” did not extend – nor has it in centuries of litigation – to any “religion” that mistreats others, involves abuse, forces itself on the unwilling, or masquerades as a faith but is in fact about dominion, domination, conscription, or compulsion.
Third, America was not only designed for a “moral people,” but was designed to absorb immigrants at a slow pace, not all at once, not in a way that undermined the moral or legal foundations of the Republic. Immigration required integration and assimilation, driven home through naturalization.
Fourth, perpetuation of the Republic required not just a slow pace for immigration, but acculturation or assimilation, appreciation for our language, values, history, civic institutions, and Constitution. The goal was never to superimpose other cultures on ours, nor to replace them.
To accept mass immigration from any culture tends to undermine assimilation, inviting enclaves which are not fully integrated into the nation – and conflict. To do so with religions or ideologies often at war with American values and allies is self-defeating, never part of the Founders’ intent.
Just the reverse: They envisioned a nation inviting and generous, but selective. They wanted – and we should – aspiring patriots, beholders of the American Dream, fighters for individual liberty, limited government, not those disrespecting our values. We want workers grateful for the miracle.
Fifth, our Constitution is not negotiable, cannot be made second to any culture, religion, or set of laws that down-values or seeks to replace the Christian values on which the Republic was founded.
This is not cultural prejudice, not ethnocentrism, nor disrespect for other nations, just a fundamental fact: The American culture is unique, free, and pluralistic., We love the world’s “tired, poor, huddled, and yearning.” But those coming must love America and our values.
So, what does all this have to do with Muslim enclaves? Only this: The missing piece is insufficient assimilation, full appreciation for American history, the Dream, our founding values, and how they work. Needed is not just paced immigration, but robust love for the Republic’s values. We are a generous people, but those who come here must love America – and abide by our founding values.
Theodore Roosevelt expressed it best: “We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and this is the English language. We have room for but one sole loyalty, and that is a loyalty to America.
Robert Charles is a former Assistant Secretary of State under Colin Powell, former Reagan and Bush 41 White House staffer, Maine attorney, ten-year naval intelligence officer (USNR), and 25-year businessman. He wrote “Narcotics and Terrorism” (2003), “Eagles and Evergreens” (North Country Press, 2018), and “Cherish America: Stories of Courage, Character, and Kindness” (Tower Publishing, 2024). He is the National Spokesman for AMAC. Today, he is running to be Maine’s next Governor (please visit BobbyforMaine.com to learn more)!

Well, RBC, the Muslims have a 100-year plan for the takeover of our nation. They have a foothold in Minnesota and Michigan, a substantial foothold in NYC and they are now working in LA. Just like a disease, it is slowly spreading as there is no one taking a firm stand in those areas they are now entrenched in. They will test an area to see if there is any resistance to see if they can expand. People need to wake up but most remain asleep.
I’m in my 80’s so I have seen so much in my years on earth. JFK had it right when he said “ask not what your country could do for you but what you can do for your country.” You can love it and become American for all it affords you but you must contribute. If you support another country then that’s the country you should live in.
Teddy Roosevelt put it the way it should be. Muslims don’t fit his image of what is right in America.
Mass immigration is like bringing in a like minded mob in all at once. The muslim people group have no intention or interest in assimilation, evidenced by their refusal to blend in. Making their collective an extention of the land they fled only to transform America into an exact copy but using our resources and government to make it happen.
This is all about the “racism” claims we keep hearing about. When I attended 2-12th grade in California public schools, we didn’t have a racism problem. Seriously. Our schools were pretty much 1/3 white, 1/3 black and 1/3 Hispanic in San Bernardino, CA. We all got along. Racism became a thing starting in the late1960s into 1970s when the Black Panthers and the Weathermen and groups like that decided that was the way to disrupt America. I am so sick of hearing everything is racist. Most people do NOT care about color, but now, here we are, when black Americans are doing better than they ever have (mostly by dumping the Dem party who wants to keep them down) yet all we here is that whites are racist against anyone who isn’t white. It’s exactly the opposite. Black Americans are being brainwashed to hate whites. Jazmine Crockett and others never shut up about this. Like most Dem talking points, they figure if they keep repeating it, people will believe it. Islamists do NOT belong in America, I don’t care about their color. I have no issue with Muslim Americans practicing their faith, although it is pretty darn clear that the faith requires them to TRY to subjugate Christians and other religions, but America is NOT a Muslim country. Watch out people, they are getting bolder every day and the root of it is “racism” claims.
People need to wake up to reality. Immigrants come here from all over the world to embrace our way of life, to become Americans, in most cases to assimilate, and to become part of our nation. Muslims come here to colonize.
Someone or maybe many dropped the ball on refusing to admit Muslims to this country! We have seen what their behavior in the US is. We have listened to what they are saying. They have a plan. It is up to those elected to the US Congress to step up and uphold their oaths to the US Constitution. I, for one, would deport anyone who is a member of the Islamic faith and claims to be a Muslim. They are not Americans!
I don’t care what race or religion you may be, but you chose to come to America!! America was founded on Christianly and the Constitution so therefore you either accept our beliefs or get out!! We should have christen prayers in school and I children should be properly educated on our beliefs and the Constitution and sacrifices our ancestors made for this great country!!!!
The facts enumerated here in this article all contain respect for Liberty, Faith ( that includes the teaching of Christ) and Good Sense. The courage of the signers of the Declaration of Independence , that document set forth the spirit of the foundation of many good, positive developments to follow. The idea of our Constitution being not negotiable is sure enough right. The ideal of Loyalty is something admirable. Any groups who come here to the United States of America and are not interested in assimilating and have ideas about transforming this Nation to their ways could, and probably should find themselves ( borrowing an Australian expression ) – Up a Gum Tree . That bit of Australian wit and wisdom means experiencing some difficulty. I do believe it is acceptable to use some words and expressions from a Country that has been an historical ally if it adds some flavor to speech like in poetry . And another fact to consider is that there are Traitors here – U.S. citizens willing to help those not interested in assimilating . They are ( borrowing another Aussie expression ) – Not Bloody Likely ” to succeed unless the majority of people here are truly so far off course politically that they believe Up is actually Down, and Backwards is actually Forward . I reckon there is still time to do what is needed to stop things from getting that bad. The two other commenters at this time Max and Michael J make good points in their comments. Having a bit of humor added to the intelligent, serious strategy to maintain the spirit of a freedom loving Nation is in keeping with traditional American values . Some of these foreign groups are apparently humorless and that indicates something wrong right there. Respect for the principles that have done so much good in the world helps to keep a balance and keep the light going in times when darkness threatens. Liberty and truth are what it takes .That is joyful thought and that is part of the cycle of having Faith, having the Patriot beliefs and the sense of honor, to
give purpose to life.
.
Well written. Let’s share all we can.
Islam was devised by Satan, the father of sin, rebellion lies, and murder. Nothing good will ever come from Islam.
Well said, Max, the people that are educated and loyal enough to do something about what is happening in America, are burdened down with Debt, Created mostly by our Government to keep us working all day, so, that when we get home we are too tired to do anything but, take care of dinner(supper) or, what ever you want to call it, Then get up the next Morning and start all over again, because if the Bills aren’t paid, you are considered a lose in the FINANCIAL SYSTEM, and cannot get CREDIT. I have high hopes that our President will get the all straightened out, jus don’t know if he has enough time to do so.
It is somewhat amazing, that so many do not pay attention to the news, or even watch it. Yeah I know it can be depressing, but we, you and I are the only thing that stands between America’s freedom and the many dictatorships, continually working to subvert America.
Every American should read enough of the Quran to understand the intent and danger this theocracy poses to any democracy.
Do not forget 9-11 or the WTC bombing prior to that!
What we can hope, and it’s only that, is that, like the Hmong, third generation in the US saw the grandchildren finally assimilate for the most part. Prior to that, they operated as a separate entity to the US. It’s hard not to appreciate freedom as you experience it more and more. The 100 year plan is frightening for sure.
Lock and Load, They (muslimes) are here and need to be taken care of.
I understand at one point there was a law prohibiting Muslims from holding public office. What happened.
Congressional Republicans, State house Republicans, local Republican office holders have failed the Oath test in this regard.
