The National Education Association (NEA) – the largest labor union in the United States with more than three million members – adopted business items at this year’s “Representative Assembly” that accused President Donald Trump of governing America through “fascism” and “authoritarianism,” along with openly promoting gender ideology in the classroom.
The event was held in Portland, Oregon, from July 3 to July 6 behind closed doors. The proceedings were never meant to be made public, but school choice and parental rights advocate Corey DeAngelis received a copy of the resolutions that the NEA passed and shared images of the documents on X.
One business item saw NEA members vote “to defend democracy against Trump’s embrace of fascism by using the term fascism [sic] in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump’s program and actions.” The NEA is designating an additional $3,500 for the cost of this item.
Additionally, the NEA passed a business item “to oppose any move to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education as an illegal, anti-democratic, and racist attempt to destroy public education and privatize it in the interests of the billionaires.” The Trump administration is notably in the process of drastically reducing the size of the federal Department of Education and returning the power to set education policy to the states.
In another adopted business item, NEA members voted to declare support for the “participation in the mass democratic movement against Trump’s authoritarianism and violations of human rights.” This includes supporting the “No Kings” movement. The NEA will allocate $1,500 to carry out this objective. The organization also voted to support student protests against the Trump administration.
DeAngelis mentioned that this was not the first time the NEA’s votes were controversial. “Back in 2019, the teachers’ union DEFEATED a business item to ‘rededicate itself to the pursuit of increased student learning in every public school in America,’” he wrote.
The expenses increased significantly for other resolutions passed at the NEA’s conference. In one noteworthy expense, the NEA will now “defend birthright citizenship and opposes the attempt to revert to pre-civil rights movement–Jim Crow–legal concepts of ‘states rights’ in order to deny citizenship to the children of immigrants.” This will cost the union $34,500.
Another adopted resolution specifically targeted the case Mahmoud v. Taylor that saw the Supreme Court rule that parents have a right under the First Amendment’s religious liberty clause to opt their children out of controversial lessons covering issues such as homosexuality, transgenderism, and far-left gender theory.
As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, the NEA will spend $209,025 to create a sample resolution for school boards to adopt to “protect” educators who want to teach LGBTQ issues, create a “Know Your Rights” document, and hold “Speak Up, Speak Out” LGBTQ conferences. In other words, the NEA is actively working to undermine the Supreme Court’s ruling and continue peddling far-left ideology to young children.
Rounding out the slate of liberal activism, NEA also adopted a resolution to “not use, endorse, or publicize any materials from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL),” an organization founded to fight antisemitism.
The developments from this year’s conference are just the latest instance of progressive political activism from the NEA. In January, before Trump took office again for his second term, the NEA hosted a series of webinars for teachers explaining that “we were born for this moment” to push back against the incoming administration. These webinars covered issues such as “defending LGBTQ+ civil rights” and protecting illegal aliens from immigration enforcement.
When Linda McMahon was under consideration to be the Department of Education’s next secretary, the NEA also encouraged senators to vote “no” on her confirmation. The Senate still confirmed McMahon as secretary in a 51-45 vote on March 3. The NEA also endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential election, saying that she is a “strong believer in racial justice.”

Fourth graders can’t read, eight graders can’t multiply but all of them will be “educated” in LGBTQ because that is the center of the Universe and the whole world speaks it. How can these individuals be allowed near children, there is not a law that can prevent that. Education itself was neglected for decades , replaced by ideology , we are in the bottom half world wide, spending billions and it’s all good. The teacher’s unions are just propaganda arms of the Left. I cannot name even one thing they’ve accomplished to upgrade public education. Quite the contrary. They support every cultural experiment and trend that comes along to the detriment of really educating our youth. That I a major reason our students are so far behind in knowledge and skills of other countries that simply teach the 3 Rs and civics/history. A few interviews with U.S. high school grads shows how lacking in information they are – and this is the generation that will vote to decide the fate of our nation! I taught high school throughout the 70’s and into the 80’s and I’ve had direct contact with the AFT and their work. It is terrible and self-interested. I’m all for ignoring the teachers unions, both NEA and AT and letting them drown in their own waste.
Is anyone surprised at this? The NEA remains, not only the largest union in the nation, but the most corrupted and distanced from it’s members. The only way for this organization to do right, is for the membership to force that through their participation and voting or simply leave. The NEA is a lie. It has no practical use when it comes to education aside from being a source of propaganda and political power brokering from the left. Any one who is a member of this union should be ashamed. That’s my take. Unions were a good thing in the past and some, very few, have retained their capacity to serve their members first. The NEA is far past that and is now one of the most subversive and destructive forces in this nation when it comes to education.
The Teacher’s Union has overstepped their mission or what their mission should be. They should be advocating for their teacher’s work enviornment (salaries, class room sizes, safety issues, etc) and concerned with the job at hand, which is making sure our students receive a quality education. Since our test scores are 9th, 28th & 12th respective to reading, math & science, I would say they have missed the mark. The NEA sheeply adhere to the views of the “Far Left” and are all about grooming our children to become socialists. I believe we should get rid of the department of education and return control of our schools to the states.

No wonder there’s a huge rise in Homeschooling. AI: Homeschooling has seen a significant increase in recent years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. Guessing due to parents seeing what their kids were being taught or what propaganda was being spewed to them. Everyone should consider if they can, as leaving them in school is tantamount to throwing them to the wolves. I know it’s hard, but our kids are worth saving if it’s possible.

I was a teacher for 35 years. I fully regret every dime I paid in to the National Teacher’s Union.
I know a young woman who actually left college, to become a teacher, because of the crap they were teaching her in her classes, so it starts there. The union ideology has infiltrated the colleges so these people are getting indoctrinated at that level to teach this crap. Just watch Jesse Watters some time on Fox when they go out and ask people questions about history. Hardly any one can answer the questions correctly. Stuff I learned in GRADE SCHOOL!!! It makes me sick.
