Why Dems Are Secretly Thrilled the Government Is Reopen

If the furious reaction from progressives this week feels familiar, that’s because we’ve seen this song and dance before – and it is a symptom of the ideological civil war that is ripping at the seams of the Democrat Party.

After 41 pointless days of stalemate, eight Senate Democrats voted with Republicans on Monday to reopen the government, prompting their liberal colleagues to erupt in outrage and denounce the deal as a betrayal. But the truth is that most of these same Democrats are secretly relieved. Their anger is pure political theater – a carefully curated performance meant to appease a loud, radical base while most of the party quietly celebrates an end to a political disaster of their own making.

We saw the exact same dynamic earlier this year. Back in March, Democrats faced another government funding impasse, and ten of them crossed the aisle to keep the government open.

At the time, they were accused of “capitulating” to President Trump. The left vowed retribution. Activists threatened primaries. Yet eight months later, Chuck Schumer is still the party leader, and the same Democrats just ran the same play again.

The cynical strategy for Democrats is simple: make a big enough show of “fighting back” to appease the base and avoid a costly primary – even if everyday Americans are collateral damage.

Publicly, Democrats are lashing out about the vote to reopen the government. But it’s telling that none of them are personally attacking their colleagues who provided the necessary votes.

Take, for instance, the rhetoric from Democrats Mark Warner of Virginia and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois. Both of them voted “no” on reopening, while their Democrat counterparts, Tim Kaine in Virginia and Dick Durbin in Illinois, voted yes.

Warner claimed, “I cannot support a deal that still leaves millions of Americans wondering how they are going to pay for their health care or whether they will be able to afford to get sick,” and insisted that “simply kicking the can down the road is not good enough.” Duckworth went even further, saying, “Trump and Republicans refuse to fight for American families, but I refuse to give up on them. I simply cannot, and I will not, vote to do nothing to help protect them from Trump’s vindictive and malicious efforts in exchange for a vague promise from the least trustworthy Republican Party in our nation’s history.”

In those statements, Warner is essentially suggesting Kaine is abandoning sick Americans, while Duckworth implies that Durbin is complicit in Trump’s “vindictive and malicious” schemes. Yet notably, neither of them criticized their counterparts by name. The outrage is loud, but it’s not personal, because deep down, they’re grateful someone else took the hit.

A report from Axios provides another smoking gun that this is all performative outrage from Democrats. According to the outlet, a group of moderate Senate Democrats had told Schumer two weeks into the shutdown that they were ready to vote to reopen. Schumer, ever mindful of the party’s optics, urged them to hold out longer to make the shutdown look like a principled stand rather than the political dead end it was.

Ultimately, it was everyday Americans who suffered. Federal employees missed paychecks, families lost benefits, travelers faced endless flight delays, and the economy stalled – all for the sake of optics. It was political theater designed to placate a radical base that demanded confrontation at any cost.

For Democrats, it was better to let the country twist in the wind a few extra weeks if it meant pretending they were still “standing up to Trump.”

But now that the show is over, Democrats are quietly exhaling. The shutdown exposed how dysfunctional their coalition has become. They’ve spent years appeasing the far left, nurturing a small but fanatical faction that doesn’t believe in compromise and demands endless escalation.

That faction doesn’t care that Democrats lost in a landslide last year and no longer hold the levers of power in Washington. They just want destruction. They’re fine with federal workers missing paychecks and airports grinding to a halt if it means showing how “resistant” they are to Trump.

Meanwhile, most of the country doesn’t share that appetite for chaos. Ordinary Americans simply want stability. And Democrats, especially those who represent swing states, know that every day of shutdown pain eroded their credibility with the voters they need most.

So, Democrats try to have it both ways. They let the shutdown drag on long enough to look defiant, then quietly allow a vote to reopen when the pressure becomes unbearable. The moderates who vote “yes” are sacrificed to the outrage mob while everyone else gets to posture about “not giving in.” Then, as soon as the government reopens, the whole party sighs in relief. The radicals get their moral victory, the moderates survive, and leadership hopes the public forgets the whole mess by next week.

The irony is that the longer the shutdown lasted, the worse it was for Democrats politically. It drew attention to exactly the parts of government they don’t want voters thinking about – waste, inefficiency, and fraud. Americans got a close look at the enormous flow of taxpayer money into Obamacare subsidies, welfare programs, and bloated bureaucracies. The shutdown revealed how fragile and mismanaged many of these systems are. It sparked uncomfortable questions about where the money goes and why so many billions are vanishing into unaccountable hands. For a party built on defending big government, that’s not a conversation they want to have.

Meanwhile, the Democrats’ own leaders showed astonishing cynicism. Schumer was caught on tape telling colleagues that “every day gets better for us” as the shutdown dragged on, while House Minority Whip Katherine Clark described Americans’ suffering as “leverage.” Those are not the words of people fighting for working families. They’re the words of a political class that sees ordinary citizens as pawns in a messaging war.

The shutdown was a crisis of the Democrats’ own making – a desperate attempt to prove their loyalty to a base that’s become ungovernable. But when it finally came time to choose between endless chaos and reopening the government, most Democrats were quietly cheering for the same thing the rest of the country wanted: an end to the madness.

I agree with Max! If after everything the Democrat party has done and is still doing including not even knowing what a woman is and people still vote for them, this country does not stand a chance. I have great peace knowing that I am not a citizen of the United States I’m a citizen of the Kingdom of heaven, just waiting for my savior Christ Jesus to come rescue me. I urge others to accept Christ Jesus as their personal savior and understand the peace that comes with it

Comes down to this — if the American voter has not figured out about the Democrats antics and false rhetoric by now and continue down road of fraud, waste and abuse of the system then our nation will be lost with no chance for recovery. As always, the nation direction is in the hands of the voters. Which way will we go?

Pretty sure that this was yet another “staging” by loyal but moderate party dems who agreed to take a small hit for support in the future. Notice that they were all people not running again OR in areas safe from primary challenge. What really scares me is the fact that the Dems actually convinced half the country that the shut down was Republicans fault and that Trump has anything to do with Congress passing a budget! This is what happens when two generations now didn’t get taught civics or US history and who do NOT understand our Constitution. Republicans should be running full page ads in every major newspaper across the country. And STOP BEING SO DARN NICE!!!

I think everyone is missing one key thing that some (many?) of the Democrats wanted that they didn’t get and why they’re so angry. I think the underlying play was to get the Republicans to kill the Senate Filibuster rule. Yeah, it’d hurt in the short run but they know that eventually they will get power again and then it’ll be no-holds-barred. With the Filibuster gone they’d be able to pass their agenda with Republicans helpless to stop them.

Democrats hate the Filibuster even as they use it. But, not enough of them hate it strongly enough to overcome their fear of eliminating it. The diehards want to, but the moderates do not. So, the idea was to force the Republicans to kill the Filibuster (and take the political hit for doing so) and then sit back and wait for their next hold on power with that being simple majorities in both the House and Senate.

Only problem with all this is another potential shutdown after the holidays! Congress needs to get off their backsides and pass an actual budget without bloated money for themselves! I think the last actual budget passed was back when Clinton was president! No more of these CRs and kicking problems down the road! We need an economy untangled from government regulations and a government will no abuse and fraud (or as little as humanly possible). Someone in Washington needs to have the courage to fight for limited constitutional government again! The only way America is free is when government is small! Now it’s still a Blob and our solvency is getting toward the end!

I am not cognizant of any other outcome due to the lack of high paid politicians refusal to adhere to the principles and intelligence of our founding fathers fathers!
Today we have nothing to compare with the wisdom and integrity of the “government” of,for and by the people” that made America what it was intended to be! Reality has repeatedly proven that politics are just that. No longer is it even debatable that in our wildest imagination is there is no recourse than to a knowledge the
fact that Lawyers and petty thieves have ceased to give any credibility whatsoever to the basic principles our country was founded on. It’s an ugly time brought on by ugly Congressmen and Women who are playing the game for self enrichment and have forgotten the people they were elected to represent! I honestly believe it’s high time to
vote for term limits for the house and Senate to keep the rape of the people in check!

REPUBLICANS, INDEPENDENTS, AND MODERATE DEMOCRAT VOTERS HAD BETTER NEVER FORGET WHAT THE SOCIALIST COMMIES PUT AMERICA THROUGH, AND BETTER VOTE ALL OF THESE BASTARDS OUT IN 2026 AND 2028.

Don’t be fooled by Democrat flailing, midterms are in serious danger. This recent rant was focused on healthcare and that problem wont go away fast. It’s just delayed a little, closer to midterms. Trump is doing great but healthcare costs are out of control and could easily doom the GOP in midterms.

Jesus stated in John 10:10, “That the thief cometh not but to steal, and kill, and destroy.” I think that Jesus described the Democrat Party very well since the Democrat Party is the party of Satan.

“leaving millions unable to afford their healthcare” is on the Democrats. They devised the hapless ObamaCare, lied about it and then tried to cover with big government subsidies that were supposed to fade away with Covid. But now they are insisting on making them permanent for no other reason than that ObamaCare has become more unaffordable (The Affordable? Care Act) than ever. We are aware that the original dishonest intent was to send the ACA to the dogs and institute universal healthcare —socialized medicine, the same that Canadians and Europeans are running away from, waiting months for treatment and tests, etc. Republicans MUST come up with a new system that is fair and works. THAT is one way to beat down the Communists now working very hard with Muslim organizations and foreign support to consume the entire United States.Fact it! The Democrats are no more; they have capitulated to the Left/Communists among them and have given up the fight. We now have the likes of the very ignorant bur arrogant AOC & friends to deal with and I pray that they are recognized for what they are and are knocked out quickly.

Why does nothing ever get better? Are we too big to fix what’s wrong. Fraud and corruption is never good for America. Is fraud the cost of not policing such a broad spectrum of Govt? We accept it because….”the fox is in charge of the hen house”….plain and simple.

DIMMs are all theatrics and hot air. Schumer’s ploy was for naught; you can bet that Sandy Cortez will primary him! I haven’t studied it, but I imagine the votes to reopen were from senators running in next year’s election. Taking pay and food from innocent people doesn’t play well during an election!

Of course they are. The democrats are liars manipulators for power. Schumer screwed up. Is it enough to vote all these dictators out next year? My hope is that it is, but like with everything the democrats want, power and a communist leadership and money can buy a lot of votes.

Schumer, trying to save his job, convinced 8 senators to fall on his sword for him. All 8 aren’t running for reelection next year, so they don’t have to lose in their primaries. God only knows what they were promised, and how much it’s going to cost taxpayers!

Perhaps situation can be put into perspective and start to make sense if that party is called by it’s true name, we all know what the intentions are and where it is headed. Time to stop hiding behind the Democrat name and come out into open , no more hiding in the closet. Let the truth out and let the voter decide, obviously he needs it in Braille

And what’s sad about this is that they, the Democrats are prepared to go after another government shutdown regardless to the damage it does to those individuals who they are supposedly supporting. If I was a government employee who had to show up and work during the shutdown without pay, I’d seriously doubt anything that comes out of the mouths of any Democratic representative who didn’t lose a dime and f pay while just standing around spewing nonsense rhetoric about standing strong on what promise principle that doesn’t apply to my dilemma

The shutdown was nothing more than stifling the economy to make DJT look bad. They knew that they and others would cry that the economy is bad because of DJT. They didn’t want him triumphantly boasting his economy AGAIN. Plus, that gives them a platform for the next big election. Look at the big picture!

These worthless Democrats used the poor, vulnerable people for their self gain and profited nothing but hurting the economy and citizens in the process. What more proof could people want, who vote Democrat, to vote against Democrats because of what is in the heart of Democrats now in Office!?! Democrats simply see people of no earthly value but fulfilling their personal self centered desires. You’re nothing more than a worthless slave to Leftist Democrats!

A lot of non-liberal democrat voters keep saying how fed up they are with the radical left in their party and claim that they now support President Trump. Now common sense tells me that none of these democrats live in liberal far left controlled cities or states and I’m sure that those democrats living in these areas will never speak out for fear of retribution against them. I guess we’ll see how truthful these democrats now supporting Trump and Republicans are, come the 2026 election if the 2026 election is not again cut short in places by bomb threats. I honestly believe that this past election put the dagger in Americas coffin solely based on the info of the millions of registered republican voters that did not vote because they feel that it’s unnecessary to vote in lower elections for local and state government and only the main elections count. WRONG because at the Federal level everything the liberal far left did to stop Trump failed miserably and they paid the price at the Federal level elections. What I see the liberal far left doing now and it happened this past election is they will now attack local and state level political positions and now take over America from the bottom up. Under the Constitution the states are supposed to be free from the Tyranny of the Federal Government, anyway, aren’t they. So, to all republicans out understand that EVERY ELECTION MATTERS from here-on-out whether its local, state or federal political positions.

Every one of us should get the word out that this shut down had nothing to do about health care, but rather the economy. One of the Dem’s puppet masters did not want for the Trump economy to accelerate and wanted to shut it down halting its momentum. They succeeded in doing that and put us in more debt.

Trump has defeated the Dim party. He has totally defanged them. The GOP has no opponent. Most importantly, Trump has taught the GOP how to fight. Trump plays to win. Previous GOP groups were what Dims are today. Grandstanders with no committment. Trump says: “If I’m involved, we’re winning” and you had better be ready to take on the responsibility of winning. Winning requires action and leadership.
The GOP, until Trump, was afraid of action and leadership. Trump says: “Now that we’ve won, lets clean up this mess. Previous GOP attitude was ” I don’t want to clear up the mess. I’m happy with it “

Great analysis. I agree 100%.

We Coloradans are EXTREMELY mad/angry at our two moronic senators–Bennett and Hickenlooper–for not having the intestinal fortitude to oppose the Schumer Insanity. As Max says, Dems couldn’t care less how much pain working Americans suffered, as long as they could play their stupid power-politics game.

And these mental midgets wonder why President Trump and his administration are gaining support, as the Trump team diligently works to make America function correctly again. Nice to have adults back in charge of our government!

I bet the creeps are most excited as now Trump can be forced into releasing the Epstein Files and judging by how hard he has pushed back against their release one is left suspecting that someone close to Trump engaged in either underage sexual activity with minors or with trafficking of those minors. The big question out there remains that of wondering if a certain someone is guilty of hiding his little orange cashew in some little pre pubescent girl(s)??
