America’s 250th Birthday is here! This Independence Day will be a grand and glorious celebration of our wonderful and magnificent country, a nation truly unlike any other on the Earth.

Undoubtedly for most, it will be a time of immense pride as we recognize the beauty, the grandeur, the accomplishment, and the enduring promise of America. At the same time, it will be an occasion for deep reflection, as we take a moment to remember the costs and the sacrifices necessary to break from England and secure our nation against two-and-a-half centuries’ worth of challenges and threats.

Even a cursory study of American history makes a few things clear.

First, our sagacious Founding Fathers possessed a keen understanding of human behavior, conflict, government, and the nature of power. Second, they knew the effort required to form a nation, especially a radical experiment like ours, was the ultimate high-stakes gamble, and that failure to defeat England in the Revolutionary War meant certain death.

They also understood that the freedom to keep and bear arms was central to the American identity – the fight to establish it and the fight to preserve life and liberty thereafter. While the Second Amendment wouldn’t come for another 15 years after 1776, its spirit was woven into the fabric of the American republic from the beginning.

It’s not an exaggeration to suggest that without an armed citizenry – the core of the colonial militia – there would be no battle against British oppression, and there would be no new nation, and no future for a free America.

The success of the Revolution ultimately hinged on a few key elements, the most direct of which was the citizen-soldier himself, ready and willing to die for our righteous cause. At any moment, that revolutionary citizen could be called to muster, grab a rifle or shotgun from the hearth, and head to fight.

Two hundred and fifty years later, it might be difficult for many of us to imagine what this felt like (aside from those who have intimate experience in defending their lives, families, property, and country with arms). But in the immediate aftermath of the war, the framers of the Constitution understood clearly the role that arms played in the creation of America – and what was needed to ensure preservation of liberty and sovereignty moving forward. That’s why, on December 15, 1791, the first ten amendments to the Constitution were ratified as the Bill of Rights.

The necessity of firearms in America did not expire with the passing of the revolutionary generation. The country’s expansion throughout the 19th century, both in war and via peaceful exploration, depended on an armed populace – or, at the very least, it relied upon people well-versed in the handling and use of arms.

The uncharted regions of America beyond the original 13 colonies – and certainly the vast and dangerous territory west of the Mississippi River – wouldn’t have been tamed without firearms. Can you imagine the Lewis and Clark expedition without guns? And of course, firearms were vital to both law and order as well as self-defense for vulnerable citizens along America’s unruly frontier.

It is also well known that American cultural facility with firearms has repeatedly contributed to the effectiveness of our military. Generations of citizen-soldiers like Alvin York and Carlos Hathcock were experienced marksmen before they joined the ranks. Additionally, it is only common sense that any foreign power would think twice before invading a nation of armed citizens.

In looking back on the role of arms in America – including privately kept arms in the hands of everyday citizens – one is pressed to ask: “Why would any of this be considered antiquated or obsolete now?”

In response to that question, we have to acknowledge several truths. First, there is no life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness without the right to self-defense – full-stop. Second, we still expect at least some percentage of our public to serve in the military, including in state militias. Third, we still have the same Constitution, and the principles codified in that document have not changed.

Finally, being candid about power and government (which our Founders certainly were) means there will always be a need for the people to have a fighting chance against tyranny. While this last argument might be uncomfortable to some, if we are being honest with ourselves, we cannot forget the role of gun control in keeping some citizens from being truly free.

Put another way, we cannot discount the role that firearms could have played in giving those people a chance at freedom. The fact that gun control ordinances in the Jim Crow South existed for the purpose of oppressing black Americans proves the point.

Those who know our history and who understand the importance of the Second Amendment and its central importance to our founding and freedom know much of this. Conversely, those who hold a degree of prejudice against the Second Amendment – or who are more sympathetic to gun control ideas and perhaps frightened of the notion of an armed and independent public – often marginalize the importance of the Second Amendment to everything we cherish as a free people.

So, this Independence Day, remember that without firearms or a citizenry willing to arm itself, we probably wouldn’t be celebrating very much. Have a splendid and dazzling 250th!

News Flash, The right to keep and near arms will come to a end if the Democrat/Democrat Socialist/Communist ever get control of our Government again these insane slime-balls will will Null and Void the whole Constitution, they all are as brain dead as Sleepy Joe.
All they have to do is give all the illegals the right to vote, open the borders for more to coming, and most of all pack the Courts/Supreme Court and you will no longer have a country, they will take your home, they will give your jobs away to another illegal, you will be lucky if they let you live if you are a naturally born citizen.
Unless we stop this and stop it soon, America will start an out of control death spiral, we as a nation are in trouble, real trouble!
The worst part is our supreme court could care less, they are making stupid decisions because they are afraid of the left and thinks giving them a win will appease them, more stupid thinking.
The 2nd Amendment!
“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep are bear arms shall not be infringed.”
When its gone America is gone. Is it already to late?
God Bless America!

Democrats believe in tyranny, hence their version of gun control. To me, gun control means that when I pick up a weapon I can hit what I’m aiming at. Should be legal to destroy anything interfering with liberty. Patrick Henry got it exactly right!

I am perplexed at the lack of Patriotism for our nation’s 250th Anniversary! How many have fought and lost their lives to preserve this nation and the hatred and apathy that is permeating this Anniversary Birthday of our Nation that is like no other in the world!
I do not understand how we have lost Freedoms that no other Nation on earth have and conservative Patriots are still bucking the vitriol hateful speech. I am stymied that our freedom of speech has been lost and now it is not speech but people who really do not love our nation or Star Spangled Banner! They want a different nation and rule, my suggestion is do your research and please move there!
Don’t selfishly destroy what the rest of us love!

The American spirit is deeply ingrained in the second amendment. That is why this country is still free and a constitutional republic. The Europeans found this out during WW I and WW II. Would a European pick up a gun, by the way they don’t have access to, but let’s say they had or have access to a gun. They wouldn’t go and fight for America. They didn’t even do anything to stop Iran’s bombing Israel and other countries in the Middle East. They didn’t help America nor Israel to stop them from getting nuclear bombs. Hell they don’t even contribute to NATO. Let America take care of that. It’s not the governments that won the World wars it was the American soldiers the average Joe and Jane. Many who lost tgeir life. And nobody ever complained. They came home went back to work, raised a family. Today we have the younger generation talking about freedom. Sovereignty they don’t want. Only they forget there are people in this world that want us dead. And they are living right next door to you. Our second amendment is the backbone in this country. Without we wouldn’t have lasted 250 years. All those communist whiners should all be made to live in Russia or China for a year and feel the “freedom” they would enjoy there. Karl Marx’s book would not be any longer on their list of books they must read. And buying a gun would be their first purchase coming home.

When I recall the horror that happened to our ally, Israel, October 7, then the news that no one had the means to defend themselves. Its a privilege to have our great second amendment, we need to enjoy it before its taken from us, if we are not vigilant.

Being the mother of an Army veteran whom was deployed to both Iraq & Afghanistan after 911 & also being the grandmother of three grandsons actively serving in the Army I certainly appreciate as well as respect the Second Amendment! Within a few hours of the vicious attacks on our country on 911 & not knowing all that would happen with our son’s deployments, he shared with me that he would gladly take a bullet in defending his family & this his country! Any person in these United States stating through their obvious ignorance of this country’s history that they’re no longer proud of this country because of whom is in the White House has absolutely no idea what a true patriot is! Perhaps they should find a new country to live in where their life might be better…but I highly doubt that!! God bless the USA & all those keeping us safe as “we the people” celebrate our 250th birthday!!!!

Here is what Constitution and Bill of Rights hating Democrats pull. In hearings and when running for office, they profess to be supporters of The Constitution, including The 2nd Amendment. When elected or appointed to an office, they raise their right arms and take the same Oath that we take when joining the military. They Swear to “uphold and defend” The Constitution including The Bill of Rights. Soon as they drop their hands they start working to overturn it. They don’t even try to hide it.

Excellent Article. But it basically says: “no arms, no self-defense, no freedom, no Country, no constitution, No Bill of rights and no celebration of ANY of it!!!”.
The 2nd amendment is INDEED the “backbone” and “support” of the Constitution; In fact, The bill of Rights are self-defense “arms” against tyranny FALLING under the 2nd amendment INCLUDING shall NOT be infringed.

Good points. Our Constitution has been watered down by blue state democrat tyrants who ignore the rule of law and fail to remove the people who violate their oath of office. They cater to their donors rather than their constituents and no one will challenge these law breaking vipers. Dems fear the Second Amendment as if their very lives were threatened and because of this, they fight it every chance they can. The 2nd Amendment was created specifically for them.

A very direct and truthful analysis of the the 2nd amendment and it’s purpose. As well as it’s relevance. Semper Fi. Happy 250th Marine.

Senator Mike Lee has introduced a bill to make it legal for legal canceled carry permit holders to be able to carry nation wide, it would be nice to be able to travel and be able to carry beyond your state without worrying about the next state rules. If you go through the classes and obtain a legal permit through the process of background check and paying for the classes and also a fee to get the permit, you should be able to carry legally.

Socialism/communism is the ultimate form of slavery since this type of government considers the people to be nothing more than government property.

An armed citizenry will never be enslaved. Our hope being the ability to resist with arms prevents the need to ever do so.

Remember, since 1900 socialist governments have murdered almost 200 million of their own subjects.
