The Socialist politicians are coming!
In Minneapolis, Democratic Socialist Omar Fateh is favored to be Minneapolis’s next mayor.
In New York City, bettors say there’s an 80% chance that socialist Zohran Mamdani will be the next mayor.
“We have to continue to elect more socialists, and we have to ensure we are unapologetic about our socialism,” says Mamdani.
But he should be apologetic! Socialism wrecks lives.
My last column/video covered some of Mamdani’s bad ideas, but he has so many, I needed part II:
Mamdani promises buses “fast and free for every New Yorker.”
Free would be nice, if the city could afford it. It can’t.
And it’s a peculiar proposal from a man who complains about what the government does now: “These are the slowest buses in the country!”
Will they move faster when they’re free?
Public transport is a good example of socialist confusion about what makes things work.
I ask people, “Who do you think built New York’s subways?” Most say: “the government.”
Who else could afford to dig tunnels and buy trains so everyone, rich and poor, can ride? Private businesses wouldn’t do it. They wouldn’t be able to charge enough to cover their costs. That’s why the government must do it!
But actually, private companies built most of New York’s subways. The trains only became government-run after 1939, when the capitalists proposed raising the fare from 5 to 7 cents.
NYC’s mayor called that “a grab for the public’s pocket” and took control.
He promised they wouldn’t raise the fare.
But within a few years, the fare was 10 cents. Now it’s $2.90.
And when NYC tries to build new subways, they struggle to get it done.
One train line was supposed to be finished in 1938. Then they said 1980. Today, it’s still not done, but it’s already the world’s most expensive subway.
They work so slowly that subway cars built for it (they cost a million dollars each) can no longer be used; they don’t fit the tracks.
That’s government work.
Mamdani also promises to make workers’ lives better by raising the minimum wage to $30 an hour.
That’s popular. But just dumb.
Last year, California demanded that fast-food workers be paid at least $20 an hour. Unions and politicians cheered.
But when companies have to pay even beginners $20 an hour, they employ fewer people.
Pizza Hut laid off 1,200.
Over the next year, while other states added jobs, 18,000 California fast food workers lost jobs.
Customers also get hit. Even “Good Morning America” noticed, “Restaurants in the state have increased prices by 10% faster than all other states.”
Finally, “Freeze the rent!” shouts Mamdani. Socialists like rent control.
Most voters do, too. But that’s because most don’t realize that, aside from bombing a city, little destroys apartment buildings more than rent control.
Saint Paul, Minnesota, imposed rent control in 2021. Multifamily building permits fell by 80%. In Minneapolis, its twin city, building permits increased.
So St. Paul rolled back its rent control.
But now Minneapolis’ likely new mayor wants to impose it? Don’t socialists ever learn?
No.
The vice president of the Minneapolis City Council is a socialist. I once asked her, “Where has (socialism) ever worked?”
She was silent for an interminable nine seconds.
Finally, she said, “I’m doing a fine job representing my community.”
Her policies would wreck her community.
George Will says he wants Mamdani to win because, “Every 20 years, we need to experiment with socialism” so people can watch it fail.
But can’t the model of failure be what Gov. JB Pritzker is doing to Illinois? Is Gov. Gavin Newsom bankrupting California? We need a third example?
Sadly, we’re about to get one.
I want to ask my likely new mayor, “How will your socialism succeed when every other, everywhere in the world, has brought poverty and misery?”
So far, he hasn’t responded to my interview requests.

Stossel tells it like it is. Bottom line, people who want free everything will swallow anything and everything a socialist feeds them. Eventually socialism runs out of everyone else’s money as proven by its world failures. The hard awakening of being duped isn’t enough to deter the next wave of socialist enthusiasm, because there’s always another generation ready to embrace it, then the whole thing starts all over again. The promise of government sponsored free stuff is what keeps the socialism dream alive, people who lack understanding will always fall for it and as they say, history repeats when people don’t learn it.

Well, for those cities who wish to put in socialist mayors, you voters should look at European cities. Socialist mayors in Europe have ran their cities into the ground with debt. It is bad enough that European citizens are taxed to death (50-60% per salary). Socialism makes promise after promise but they can’t sustain them. The rich get richer and everyone gets poorer. Citizens that end up voting in a socialist mayor are in for a “RUDE SURPRISE”.
Socialism for you, luxury for me. Will they have special stores to shop in, their children do not attend the inner city schools, they have an access to the good doctors and dentists, nothing to complain about. New Yorkers should remember it will not be as easy to get them out as it is to get them in. Free buses means fewer or no buses, frozen rent no apts. available, gov run stores empty shelves filled with inferior garbage. Had it not been so dangerous and tragic I would like to see it happen and see the look of bewilderment on the idiot faces.

Ignorance is bliss. THIS is one of the main reasons that the liberals pushed for illegals entering the country and illegals actually voting in elections. I still don’t understand how that was allowed to become “legal”.?.? Most illegal immigrants have no idea about taxes, business and costs, etc.. Most come from countries that are extremely poor and the government controls many things. When they hear the “government” is controlling things and they will be “free”, they think it’s a good thing. They have no idea of why and how America has been the successful nation that it is. The truth is that our (lack of) education system in many liberal cities has been hijacked. The next big challenge will be to try and reverse the nonsense and the lies that have been permitted to take root by what is not education, but rather an ideology. We have a large portion of our youth that is no different than many extremists around the world, the major difference is that the western extremists won’t know what to do when the results of socialist policies actually affect them negatively. BTW, there is also a large anti-white portion of people within these same groups. The liberal whites not only go along with it, they fan the flames. There is a lot of work to do and common sense needs a comeback. We lowered our drinking and voting age to 18 from 21. Then, we realized that most 18 year olds are not mature enough to drink at that age, we made the legal drinking age 21 again. We did NOT raise the voting age back to 21, this seems a deliberate move and we are paying for it today. We should raise the voting age back to 21 and have exemptions for active duty military personnel. We have “children” in high. school that can vote. These are children that have no idea about how anything works, most have never. even had a job in today’s world. Yet, we are giving them the power to control elections.?.? It has to change and change quickly.
Right again, John! Why do you have to repeat this message so often. I swear that I’ve heard you give this same (or very similar) spiel on at least 5 occasions over the last 50 years. You need to nail it to the foreheads of these idiots. Maybe then they’d finally get the message.
The ultimate answer here lies within our schools. Change the curriculum in every high school to mandate at least a one semester long civics class. Also mandate for a separate course to teach capitalism and free markets as a positive economic system with socialism/communism being shown for its negative and dysfunctional effects. It also would not hurt to mandate a basic economics course. Together, this triad of courses would “enlighten” our children about how the world truly works. With this knowledge they would be in a much better position to recognize much of the political nonsense being spewed by well-intentioned but truly misguided people.
I say for those who don’t want freedom, to move to (or back to) a Socialist country! REAL Americans do not want it!!

Why are people acting like mice, with the “free cheese” syndrome. I think the educational system has actually “dumb” down the American public and they have lost all rational thought. It is sad that so many people have just “given up” and want to be taken care of by the Government from “cradle to grave”.
It is simply amazing to me that there are voters out there, living in their own version of “virtual reality”, who actually believe socialism is the way to go–even though it has been shown to be a total disaster whenever and everywhere it’s been tried. The voters who actually cast their votes for socialist candidates seem only to care about the “freebies” they promise to deliver and never concern themselves with how to pay for those handouts. They don’t seem to realize that for every free item the socialist mayors and governors offer, they must find a way to pay for them and the only way they can do that is to massively raise taxes. So, really, where is the benefit? You’re given “free transportation via buses”–Yea, free bus rides! Awww, your taxes just increased by who knows how much –to pay for those free rides! This is not a win-win situation because those who are governed by a socialist regime don’t win–ever. Eventually, they are totally controlled by the very system of government that offered them all the free benefits and they don’t even have the good sense to realize what their desire for “free” stuff has cost them in terms of their individual freedom. Socialism only works for those who are in control–everyone else is screwed.
This is a perfect example of digging a deeper hole because it is too difficult climbing out of of the one you are currently in.
How did NYC (or any failing Democratic municipality/state) get to a point where Mamdani or Fateh are attractive to them? The answer is easy. Previous Democratic and pseudo-Republican administrations put them there.
There is no attempt to stop digging because the answers to their misery are too difficult to take. Better to stay in a different kind of misery until it collapses entirely. NYC is getting close.

Why is it the democrats can call Trump names and we get censored when we call these communists what they are overthrowers of America and racists. I would like an answer as well on this question. Show me a country where communism has worked and made it a free country like the United States of America? Where you can call a president a sh.. head and get away with it. This great summary of Socialist-leaning leaders with visions for their cities, exposes the folly of past and future attempts to secure a fake goal. However, the folks needing to read and admit the article’s truth, won’t likely be the readers or receivers of any accurate history coverage or inevitable results when the experiment is tried again. Blind faith in such autocratic systems requires proponents to be immovable, unthinking believers. That greases the path for leaders to lie profusely, to gain support broadly. and stir momentum easily among devoted followers. Any dupe, swallowing impossible promises, surely lacks enough critical thought to grasp the obvious prognosis: no such foolish hopes will ever get fulfilled as defined/orated/expected.
There are many people out there who have no idea what becoming Socialist or Communist really leads to. Our schools have been bashing America and Capitalism for decades. They never pay attention to what is going on in the world, they do not seek the truth, they only looked at social media and think that everything there is true. They are morons in so many ways. They are already here, gaining popularity and traction. A direct result of years of indoctrination, and bought and paid for liberal media outlets. I get so disgusted when I hear that the democrat party is dead. The mainstream legacy media is dead. One of Hannity’s, and others, favorite talking points. If that is true, then why is this happening? Why is this becoming more popular and in favor? There is an 80 per cent chance that a socialist will be the next Mayor of Minneapolis? How is that even possible?? Same in NYC and who knows where else! I like the comment, call it what it really is, Communism! And who is pushing it… the media!! Rock star Obama is responsible for a lot of this, being a communist himself and quietly bringing in people and placing them all over the country. All of this is the swamp that needs to be drained, and it isn’t getting done! Do we really think that Trump can fix all of this in the next three years? Trump, Bondi, Gabbard, Homen, etc. are all doing what they can. But they are limited and time is against them. They are all temporary, communism is permanent. And it is being pushed and made to look good to tens of millions of young people. Someone explain to me, how do you change that?
With war over the horizon with Iran and China, we need to ask these socialist Democrats running are they confirmed believers of the Muslem philosophy and supporters of sharia law. The article forgot to mention that Mamdani lives in a rent control apartment that he qualified for when he was making $47,000/ year, quite some time ago. He now earns a 6 figure income and his rent has not been adjusted to his present income level as it should be-tenants are supposed to supply updated income (usually by submitting a copy of their tax returns) when renewing the lease. I guess he doesn’t believe that needs to be adjusted for his benefit but he did complain about Cuomo saying that he should move out of his rent control apartment. No one is asking him to move but he should be paying the adjusted rent for his income. All I can say is that he will destroy NYC but those liberals who believe him deserve what they vote for

There will have to be about a 85% income tax on all New York citizens to pay for even half of what this idiot muslim wannabee mayor is saying he will do. In CA, they were stupid enough to elect Newscum more than once, so they deserve what they are getting. Both states have made life very hard and miserable for anybody that has to work for a living. And the rich in New York, will quickly learn about sharing their wealth, to Mamdani and his henchmen, to be able to keep any of it. The only rich that do well under communism are the ones who founded the government, and they don’t earn any of it. And if they decide they don’t like it, they can’t revolt, they have had all of their firearms taken away years ago. Good Bye New York, and good riddance!
I cannot imagine how people who left a socialist/communist country, want to change the country they have come to. The voters need to awaken to the fact that part of their need for government support, is their own lack of competitive spirit, in other words lack of ambition, waiting for someone else to meet their.wants/needs.
It’s time to amend Our Constitution baring any other type of government than the one we have “Democracy”.
