In celebration of America’s semiquincentennial this summer, President Donald Trump and his administration are partnering with several sports organizations to hold events in Washington, D.C. Two of those organizations, the UFC and IndyCar, recently announced more details on upcoming contests.
The UFC will host an event at the White House on June 14 in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. The show will feature six matches, including two championship bouts. Ilia Topuria will be defending the World Lightweight Championship against Justin Gaethje. Alex Pereira will also be defending the Interim Heavyweight Championship against Ciryl Gane.
UFC President Dana White explained that he chose the card with the fights that were possible. He said that 85,000 fans will be able to watch on screens near the White House at the Ellipse.
“There’s going to be all kinds of cool stuff, so even if you can’t get tickets, you should be in D.C. the week of the fight,” White said. “The press conference is going to be at the Lincoln Memorial. It’s going to be fun.”
Meanwhile, IndyCar will be hosting the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in the nation’s capital, August 22-23, later this year. The company just announced the details of the race this week. The event will be free to the public and will feature a “1.7‑mile, seven‑turn layout, blending the high‑speed demands of INDYCAR racing with the historic character and stunning visuals of the nation’s capital.”
In a press release, IndyCar explained that the race will take place in part “on a sweeping 0.4-mile frontstretch along Pennsylvania Avenue, framed by the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol,” as well as near the “Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the National Archives on the challenging and picturesque course layout.”
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy praised the design of the track.
“The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will showcase American ingenuity in engineering and technology along the backdrop of our historic capital in a spectacle that will leave the world in awe. President Trump and our partners at INDYCAR are preparing a historic celebration worthy of America’s 250th anniversary,” Duffy said. “The design of this unique and competitive track will deliver an exhilarating and safe experience for millions of Americans to enjoy and celebrate.”
IndyCar explained that the race was formalized through Trump’s executive order “Celebrating American Greatness with American Motor Racing” on January 30.
As AMAC Newsline previously reported, the Trump administration is working with every major American sports league to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. MLB, MLS, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, NHL, and WWE have also indicated their interest in partnering with the White House.

I hope the greatest Indy Car Race, the Indianapolis 500 does something spectacular as well! As a native Hoosier and a long-tine Indy resident and race fan, it would be wonderful to see a celebration for our country’s 250th this May!!
I LOVE AMERICA!
We should all descent on DC. And show the dems patriots are not dead. It’s even trendy. I’d rather be pro American than anti American. This country has to be sustained and the only way we can keep her is to fight those forces from within that want to destroy her. Even with stopping an enemy of almost 50 years they are supporting over the lives here in the US. Today again we saw Muslims attacking American Jews. Legacy media is silent as always. Speak up Americans we are not agreeing with these media outlets. We will bring them down as soon as every Americans becomes aware what they are doing. That is, aiding the ultra left to destroy this country.
PT Barnum would probably be proud to see what is happening to the Capital ot the USA the last five years. And a sucker is born every minute is one of his quotes, I believe.
I think there is a much better place to have these special events for 250 Celebration!
Washington, DC is our National Capitol and to have these events on streets in front of the Memorials, Capitol Building, White House, Lincoln, Jefferson, Martin Luther King Memorials just does not fit!. The historical celebration is about our Independence and should reflect more about the lives fought and lost in the many wars they gave to get and preserve our Great Nation, the U.S.A. Lets not lose the sacrificial memory that many paid with their ultimate honor and battle!
I am not against the Championship fights or the Indy car races, good idea, just the wrong location! This is more like bringing the commercialism of the events into a sacred area. It is way to close to the Vietnam Wall with the list of lost loved ones, the Arlington Cemetary, the WWII memorial.
TAKE THE CROWDS AWAY from this fragile location with all the unknown threats and terrorists who would have a chance for destruction of our National Buildings and Memorials!
Just my thoughts!
We should be celebrating all the American People who really made America Great by all their Hard Work in creating all our Automobiles and all our other Great Products lost to cheap imitations coming in from all these other countries! And now to return Tariff Money back to Foreign Importers? Who has the Actual Count of all the Sales Taxes on these products when sold in the USA as most items went to foreign businesses on US Soil, where did it all go? Now that we know the Dollar Amount of the Tariff’s Collected, we should definitely know how much Sales Tax the U.S./Each State has collected and if a Discrepancy Take the Amount’s off the Tariff Refund! All this should be done before we Celebrate our 250th! Yes?
This is absolutely trashy! No class whatsoever.
How about we turn the White House lawn into a trailer park next? That’s the direction we seem to be heading in.
