While state party ballot initiatives typically don’t make national headlines, an effort from Texas Republicans to list banning Sharia law as an official part of their policy platform has become an exception to that rule. Ahead of the vote on March 3, AMAC is spearheading a concentrated effort to raise awareness about the dangers of Sharia law and how it’s already taking root in the Lone Star State and beyond.
With more than 90,000 members across Texas, AMAC is mobilizing voters to defend the Constitution and make clear that civil law in America must always be grounded in the U.S. and Texas Constitutions — not in any religious legal code. The Texas Republican Party’s primary ballot proposition is simple in principle but profound in consequence, asking Texans whether Sharia law should be prohibited from influencing or overriding state law.
While critics have castigated this effort as an attack on the First Amendment or the Muslim faith, the precise opposite is the case. Banning Sharia law is about protecting religious liberty and safeguarding the rule of law for everyone.
What Is Sharia Law?
Contrary to what some Islamist apologists suggest, Sharia is not merely a personal spiritual guide. It is a comprehensive religious legal system derived from Islamic scripture and centuries of clerical interpretation. In multiple countries, it governs criminal justice, family law, property rights, and everyday conduct.
Where it has been formally implemented as civil law, the results are deeply disturbing and totally antithetical to the American conception of morality and justice.
In nations such as Iran and Afghanistan, Sharia has been used to justify child marriage, forced veiling, restrictions on women’s movement and employment, and brutal corporal punishments, including public flogging, stoning, and amputation. Women who are raped are often subsequently murdered by their own family members in so-called “honor killings” under the banner of Sharia law. Religious minorities and political dissidents routinely face discrimination or persecution. Basic due process protections Americans take for granted simply do not exist where Sharia law rules.
These abuses hurt Muslims most of all. Millions of peaceful Muslim families around the world live under systems that deny their daughters equal rights and silence anyone who questions clerical authority. That’s precisely why preventing Sharia from ever taking root in American society protects Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
The Constitution guarantees equal treatment. Sharia law, by design, does not.
What’s Happening in Texas?
Texas Republicans have placed a series of policy propositions on the March 3 primary ballot to gauge grassroots priorities ahead of the next legislative cycle. These propositions are advisory, but they shape the party’s official platform and legislative agenda.
One of those proposals asks voters whether Texas should formally prohibit Sharia law and any foreign or religious legal code from being applied in the state. This proposal represents the first step toward enshrining protections against Sharia in Texas law.
This effort builds on steps already taken by Governor Greg Abbott, who signed legislation in 2025 targeting so-called “Sharia compounds” and developments that attempt to restrict residency based on religion or operate outside Texas law. Abbott has also launched investigations and designated groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign or transnational threats.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has made preventing Sharia influence a top priority for the next legislative session.
The message from state leaders is straightforward: Texas law is Texas law, and nothing else overrides it. Now the Texas GOP is looking to formalize that as part of their platform.
Is Sharia Law Really Taking Root in America?
The uncomfortable answer is yes.
As AMAC Newsline has previously reported, attempts to carve out enclaves governed by Sharia-compliant practices in Texas and elsewhere are no longer hypothetical.
In Collin County, developers announced plans for “EPIC City,” a proposed 400-acre, self-contained Islamic community tied to the East Plano Islamic Center. Plans included homes, schools, mosques, commercial space, and services designed so residents could effectively cut off all contact with the broader community. Critics — including a retired local police lieutenant — warned that it would function as a de facto Sharia-controlled enclave operating separate from American norms.
After public outcry, Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton launched investigations into potential legal violations by the project’s leaders.
At the federal level, lawmakers have taken notice as well. Texas Reps. Chip Roy and Keith Self helped form the Sharia Free America Caucus to counter what they describe as efforts to embed foreign legal concepts into American communities. Additional proposals, such as the No Sharia Act, would bar courts from enforcing any foreign or religious judgment that conflicts with constitutional rights.
None of this is theoretical culture-war rhetoric. It’s a response to documented attempts to create parallel legal systems that trample constitutional freedoms. Though the United States was founded on Christian principles and remains a predominantly Christian society, it has always tolerated every faith.
But the one non-negotiable condition is that everyone lives under the same law. Now, bubbling support for Sharia law in Texas and throughout the country threatens to violate that condition.

Primary ballot propositions may not always dominate cable news, but they directly influence party platforms and future legislation. A strong showing sends an unmistakable message to lawmakers that voters expect them to defend American law without compromise.

Banning Sharia law does not restrict worship, religious freedom, or anyone’s right to practice Islam — protections guaranteed by the First Amendment. The only people affected are those attempting to substitute a religious legal code for the Constitution.

At a time when other nations are struggling with the consequences of parallel legal systems and fractured civic identity, Texas has a chance to draw a clear line. The Constitution comes first. Always.

A few years ago here in Phoenix, a Muslim man killed his daughter because she was dating a white man. He was tried and imprisoned. There have been other murders similar to this one in the U.S. that I have read about. This is what a country gets if you allow people of this faith come into your country. And what is worse, they are now infiltrating our local, state and federal governments. Yes, their goal is to overtake the Western world. They will kill those who do not comply with their laws. We need to ban them from being in our government positions to stop them from attaining their goal!! And I would say to not let them settle here period.
Texans MUST be leaders in this. The goal of Islam is to take over Europe, England, and the western world in 100 years. According to multiple sources, European countries are already lost to this, Britain is lost and they are in about year 70 i that takeover. Radical muslims have infiltrated our legal system and our economic system in business ownership and our political system from the village and local school boards to the federal government and now it’s being brought to light in Texas. I have heard people comment that voting on propositions is a waste of time, but voters need to understand that they are participating in the determination of their party platform at the grassroots level, and that this is the beginning of the legislative/lawmaking process. This might also be considered “peaceful protest” (quite unlike what some are trying to pass off today as peaceful protests).

Assimilation is the key word here. All immigrants in this country need to understand that current citizens should not have to cater to their language, food preferences etc. America needs to enforce with no exceptions English as the official language and not print drivers license tests and voting ballots in any other language but English. Apparently we Texans are a little late to this situation. I recently learned Plano isn’t the only planned Muslim /Islamic community. Dig deeper and it appears this same group has already started a 402 acre community 30-40 minutes East of Dallas in the town of Josephine.
The huge issue here is the Muslim-Islam Sharia law is NOT compatible with America’s laws. To quote an article in the Independant Sentinal;
“The problem with Islam comes in because it is a total way of life, political, social, religious, and there can be no other way. The US needs people to assimilate”.
There is some very disturbing information being reported. It is way past time for Texas residents to get informed and involved. All Americans who value their freedoms should be looking at the possible quietly spreading of Sharia law in their own communities and states.
With all that we know about Muslims from generations, history, their governing and behavior, why are they here in the US? They have zero in common with the US Constitution and American way of living and governing. My wish is that we would push them all out. Some say well there are many good Muslims. If they are devout and worship the Koran, they are not.

As a native Texan I can attest that this threat is real. We MUST stop Sharia in its tracks. As a result of so many people of this faith being imported here, they have established hundreds of mosques and actively preach Sharia from the pulpit. Their own books spell out their OBLIGATIONS to conquer and overtake the west and it’s people. They see Americans, particularly Christians, as the enemy and fair game for whatever punishments they can give them. Several months ago we had a beheading in Dallas – it was even on all the news. Anyone who thinks Islam is not here to conquer and destroy is sadly mistaken. Our governor has a good line in front of the press, but has turned a blind eye to many of the issues. The fact that he already has $100M in his campaign should speak to who he is getting his support from. He did support AG Ken Paxton pushing back on the Epic City compound, but that was only because of the public outrage, and has allowed many other problems to take hold (don’t forget he also allowed Colony Ridge-the largest illegal alien community in USA). Islam people do not back down and have only renamed the Epic City compound ‘The Meadows’ now and are still moving forward. AG Paxton is now running for US Senate and will be gone. Paxton was the only force holding back the dam. Thank goodness we have Mayes Middleton running for AG and please pray he gets elected. He is running against many RINOs with lots of money in their campaigns. Texas also just lost a critical Senate seat that has always been red in the past to a radical Dem gun-grabber and we cannot seem to garner enough support to keep foreigners from running for office. Please stay involved and VOTE even in the local and primary elections! God bless Texas and God bless America!

I have written these words before in this column. I was a Naval Aviator and intelligence officer. Islam is not a religion. It is a male-centric theocracy, designed to crush self-determination and debase women. There is nothing religious about Islam or Sharia. The photos I have seen [1968-1969] illustrate the very worse type of human behavior, which is considered acceptable in Islam, and abhorrent to the rest of the world, whether Christian or Jewish. Islam contraindicates the US Constitution. You cannot possibly be a supporter and believer and accept the Constitution. Islam and Sharia have no business in the United States.

Having lived overseas all of my life as a child, and worked and traveled overseas for pleasure as an adult, I am fully in support of banning sharia law in the US. It is not compatible with the US Constitution and our way of life.

It is one of the most heinous things that can be done to any female. It’s female circumcision. It’s forced on girls as young as SEVEN! Why do they not stay in Muslim countries? Why do they come here knowing that they do not align with one thing in this country? It is sickening what is happening to this country. And who is to blame? Is it members of Congress? Is it illegal or legal immigration? We have allowed many to come here from other countries and receive a US naturalized US citizenship. There are many of those who are in the US Congress. Many in Congress who have come by birth to illegal parents and family. WE need to do away with the birthright citizenship. I first learned about the misogyny in islam by reading a story as a girl. It was written by an Englishman. This man was part of the British administration of Egypt after WWII. He told the story of a young woman living in a rural Bedoin community. He detailed her tribulations in the light of his experience as a judge. The story only lasts about 5 years. Beginning with her sale as wife to a wealthy city man, through the birth of her first child, her divorce, her sale to a much older village man, the birth of her second child and his murder, her second divorce and having a price put on her head, being thrown out by her father, her wanderings as an “unowned” woman being preyed upon by numerous people, her final illness, and death. No one cared about her except her mother and sister. And they were both silenced by the men who dominated their lives. Her first husband cared some, but he was unable to rise above what islam taught him about women. All the men, with rare and temporary exceptions, were preoccupied with enhancing their status in the society. The whole story is about a society without grace, love, just law, integrity, truth or common charity.
I cannot forget that story. I was too young and naive to understand it all. But now I have the ability to see how awful it all was. And that, my friends, is islam and sharia.
I want nothing to do with either.
