AMAC Action commends President Donald Trump for signing H.R. 224, the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act, which recently cleared Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support. The legislation represents an important step forward for disabled veterans by cutting unnecessary federal red tape and ensuring housing assistance programs work for those who have already sacrificed so much for our country.
Introduced by Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-TX), the bill earned unanimous support from both Republicans and Democrats, underscoring broad agreement that veterans should not be penalized for receiving service-connected disability compensation. For too long, that compensation has been counted as income when veterans apply for housing assistance through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, often pushing them out of eligibility altogether.
The Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act fixes that inequity by excluding service-connected disability compensation from income calculations for CDBG assistance. By doing so, the bill ensures that benefits earned through military service are not treated as a financial liability when veterans seek stable and affordable housing.
“Disabled veterans should never be forced to choose between the benefits they earned through service and access to safe, affordable housing,” said Andy Mangione, Senior Vice President of AMAC Action. “This bill restores basic fairness by removing a clear bureaucratic barrier and ensures federal housing programs work as intended for the men and women who defended our nation.”
In addition to reforming income eligibility rules, the legislation strengthens oversight and transparency. Once enacted, it will require the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to submit a comprehensive report to Congress detailing how service-connected disability compensation is treated across all HUD-administered programs. That review will help lawmakers identify inconsistencies and ensure veterans are treated fairly across the federal housing system.
As its support letter made clear, AMAC Action strongly supported H.R. 224 because it reflects a commonsense commitment to veterans and seniors who have contributed a lifetime of service to this country. With the bill now signed into law, President Trump and Congress have delivered a clear message that honoring veterans means more than rhetoric—it means removing barriers and delivering real results.

So this a good start for the Federal bureaucrats taking 120 percent care of all Veterans, Also when American Veterans start receiving better care than the illegal immigrants have. eg
