The CBS Evening News on Memorial Day cited their poll showing fewer than half of Americans understand who is honored on Memorial Day, which is to pay tribute to military personnel who died in the line of service to our country.

The survey highlighted a generational gap, with 56% of Baby Boomers knowing the correct definition while only 38% of millennials and 27% of Gen Z answered correctly.

Please, in the future around Memorial Day, educate all who read your publication about the reason for and the meaning of this important holiday.

Three country music artists had patriotic songs that my friends and family, who served in the military, appreciated on this holiday. American Soldier and Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue, both by Toby Keith, Gold Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood and Arlington by Trace Adkins. All are incredibly patriotic anthems and these three men made many trips abroad to entertain and uplift our troops.

Listen and watch the videos for all of these songs to get a better appreciation of the importance of this day of tribute.

Thanks to all who served our country in the military and we honor and remember those whom we have lost.
