In response to President Trump’s Executive Order, AMAC Action – the advocacy affiliate of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens – with over 2 million members nationwide, issued the following statement:

“For too long, America’s seniors have been left in the dark when it comes to the true costs of their healthcare and prescription drugs. Today, President Trump is once again standing up for patients –especially seniors – by signing an Executive Order that will bring long-overdue transparency to hospital, insurance, and prescription drug pricing. This bold action will ensure that our members can finally compare prices, shop for the best care, and avoid being blindsided by excessive costs. The hidden pricing schemes of big hospital systems, insurance companies, and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM) have driven up costs and hurt patients. By enforcing transparency across the healthcare system, President Trump is delivering real reform that will empower seniors to make informed choices and save money on their care.

As strong supporters of PBM reform, we know that real price transparency is essential to lowering prescription drug costs for seniors. The previous administration failed to enforce transparency rules, allowing insurers and PBMs to continue hiding true drug prices from patients. President Trump’s commitment to holding hospitals accountable and making prescription drug prices transparent is a major step toward ending the backroom deals that have driven up costs for seniors at the pharmacy counter. American seniors deserve to know exactly what they are paying for—and today’s executive order is a major victory in the fight to put patients before profits. We applaud President Trump for keeping his promise to lower healthcare costs and will continue working to ensure that these reforms are fully implemented and enforced.”

-Andy Mangione, Senior Vice President, AMAC Action
