Europe’s Plight Proves Trump Right Again on Energy Independence

During his first term, elected Democrats and liberal media pundits criticized, downplayed, and dismissed President Donald Trump’s intense focus on making the United States energy independent. But as Europe faces yet another dire energy shortage, Trump is once again vindicated.

As The Wall Street Journal reported late last week, “For the second time in four years, Europe is hunting for new natural-gas supplies after a war exposed its vulnerability to the geopolitics of energy.” With 20 percent of global supplies of liquified natural gas (LNG) trapped behind the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the ongoing hostilities in Iran, Europe is suddenly facing not only energy price shocks, but the serious possibility of shortages.

European governments have cast themselves as the victims in this burgeoning crisis, but the reality is that it is a crisis of their own making – and one that Trump warned them about nearly a decade ago.

Back in 2018, Trump famously criticized Germany for signing a pipeline deal with Russia, pointing out that it would make Germany a “captive” of Putin’s regime in Moscow. “Germany will have almost 70 percent of their country controlled by Russia with natural gas. You tell me, is that appropriate?” he asked.

Trump later extended that criticism to the rest of Western Europe, blasting liberal governments for relying on imports from Russia to keep the lights on. “We’re protecting Germany, we’re protecting France, we’re protecting all of these countries,” Trump said. “And then numerous of the countries go out and make a pipeline deal with Russia where they’re paying billions of dollars into the coffers of Russia.”

The need to import Russian oil and gas was only created in the first place because Western Europe decommissioned most of its coal and nuclear power plants in pursuit of “net zero” carbon emissions goals that were always a scientific and financial impossibility. Wind and solar were never going to be able to meet the continent’s energy demands, resulting in Europe falling back on Russian energy supplies.

Trump’s warning about this foolhardy strategy proved prescient four years later when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 and cut off energy shipments to Europe. With cold winter temperatures approaching, many European nations faced the alarming prospect of widespread blackouts.

As a result, Germany was forced to restart or extend the lifespan of some 20 coal-fueled power plants. France also scrambled to restart many of its nuclear reactors. Disaster was averted, but energy prices throughout the continent soared as governments looked for alternative sources – including LNG from countries like Qatar.

Europe became heavily reliant on LNG supplies from the small Persian Gulf nation, which controls about 15 percent of the world’s known reserves. But Iranian strikes have severely damaged Qatar’s LNG plants, which could take years to repair.

Europe’s current predicament is not some unforeseeable tragedy. It is the direct result of deliberate policy choices made over many years. Leaders across the continent willingly shuttered reliable coal plants, stalled or dismantled nuclear capacity, and tied their energy future to intermittent sources that could never shoulder the full load of modern industrial economies.

In doing so, they subordinated practical energy security to ideological climate targets. The result is what we are witnessing today in a wealthy, advanced region scrambling for fuel, exposed to geopolitical shocks, and forced into costly emergency measures to keep homes heated and industries running.

In other words, this crisis was optional. Europe could have charted a different course – one that balanced environmental goals with the hard realities of energy demand and national security. Instead, it chose dependence. And dependence, as Trump warned, always comes with a price.

That reality throws into sharp relief the importance of what Trump achieved in the United States. During his first term, America became energy independent for the first time in nearly seven decades. That shift fundamentally changed the country’s strategic position. While global oil prices still fluctuate and American consumers feel the impact at the pump, the United States is no longer vulnerable to the kind of supply shocks that once triggered lines at gas stations and rationing in the 1970s. We produce what we need.

Trump’s vision, as he reiterated throughout his 2024 campaign, was never about rejecting renewables outright. It was about rejecting a hierarchy that elevates them above more reliable and affordable energy sources. His “all of the above” approach recognizes the simple truth that energy policy must be grounded in low costs, reliability, and national interest, not wishful thinking.

Ultimately, Trump understood what Europe ignored. Energy independence is not just an economic advantage, but a cornerstone of national sovereignty. Europe is now learning that lesson the hard way. The United States, thanks to Trump’s foresight, is not.

Pres. Trump is very much a visionary with practical and common sense solutions. I wish the entire GOP would get behind him and get his agenda passed.

President Trump has been right on most things pertaining to the success of a country. Thanks be to God for letting us have him for president at a time when the Communists were ready to control us. A country is not a successful country if you have to depend on other countries for important resources and it is not a country with open borders. Our assignment is to make sure the radical liberals do not get back into total control in any of the upcoming elections…local, state and federal. We who want to save our country ALL need to get out to vote.

OH, WELL! President Trump gave the warning over 8 years ago and Europe ignored this fact and are paying the price. California is also paying the price with Newsom and the Democrat’s stupid policies that basically followed the European model verbatim. The only ones making out on these fiascos are the top richest families of the world who directing these calamities.

I have stated this several times in the last couple of weeks. President Trump had this foresight a long time ago to be energy independent and he warned Europe of the same. With the deal they made with Putin he has been able to finance the war and put Europe in an untenable position. Therefore no help for the Ukraine. They put that again on America. And now they are in dire straights again with the attacks on Qatar and the blockade of the Straight of Hormuz. But they are clamoring and whining and calling for help. But like all climate changers everywhere they first destroyed the power sources before they had something reliable in place. Biden did it in the states by stopping drilling and importing oil from Venezuela. Till Trump returned and drill baby drill was reinstated. You can’t mandate everything be all electric when you don’t have anything else in place to replace it. We had rolling blackouts everywhere and those mandates just made it worse. But Biden was appeasing the globalists and the climate changers. After all they were donating to the cause. The Biden fund. It stinks everywhere and Trump has been exposing the stink. Which turned into a 3 billion dollar paid for no king demonstration. What that showed that the weirdos held a parade with communist flags and got the poor seniors who still thought the democrats were the democrats of old to protest. There were no blacks or Hispanics in the crowd. They hate Trump which the democrats have been lying and indoctrinating their base with that hatred for the past 20 years. Hatred against republicans, religion, and law enforcement to destroy America and its constitution and economy.

Love this mornings announcement by President Trump that the US has accomplished its objectives and can leave even if the Straits or Hormuz are not opened. He is willing to help an international coalition. Surprise, EU. Looks like you don’t get us to do your heavy lifting and you have to do something to avoid energy pain. A master class in strategic moves by President Trump.

The leftist ideals of “clean energy” and “zero emissions” and “reduced carbon footprints” all seem to end up with energy shortages which require desperate measures to rectify! Example: The California insanity of driving out oil refineries because they create pollution—only to need increased imported oil that comes by ships which pollute more than the refineries. And the oil products will all cost more because they are imported.
Sorry Californians! You asked for it and now you’ve got it.

In today’s world mess, countries are going have to watch their backs. If you can be energy independent you should be,but I don’t think that any country can be totally energy independent.Youv’e got to work with what you have and be careful where you buy.I know that if”they”elect democrats to run AMERICA again we will revert back to where we were with obama including his third term.

It’s bad enough that we have an a$$-dragging Congress that takes more recess than doing its job, but if the liberals take control in the midterms and in 2029, they’ll ruin everything Present Trump did for the country, just like joebama did his first day in the stolen White House in 2021. Sadly, the republicans are doing NOTHING to inspire people to register to vote and get out to the polls.

We should be not only energy independent but also medically independent and mineral independent. Red China makes a lot amount of our drugs and could cut us off in an emergency situation. Europe was/is so STUPID. Complaining about and fearful of Russia while depending on Russian oil and natural gas!

Europe and the UK are controlled by Socialist morons who buy votes with Welfare and encourage Islamic invaders in to do their “dirty jobs”.Their citizens only want welfare and “free” stuff while their militaries wither. Solar and Wind power can NEVER supply their energy needs and “carbon free” energy is another Socialist fantasy. Thank GOD for President Trump!

Those who remember the birth of OPEC, and the misery it created cheered long and hard when President Trump bent removed their grip from around our throats! The kiddos today have no idea. They should look at some of the historical photos of the USSR, with only the limos for the powerful on the streets. And a few of the big US cities during the ’70s oil crisis while they’re at it.

Liberal Socialist politicians (and ALL of their supporters) NEVER THINK THINGS THROUGH. They are simply too STUPID to realize this. And because of their serious incompetence, entire nations suffer and remain in a very dangerous predictement. Now they’re sweating bricks and want to desperately plead to Trump for help. They were warned for years and basically said screw Trump. So their ignorant stupidity has come home to roost. Of well, too bad, so sad, enjoy your misery. You’ve earned it.

And all along, the simple solution was for these DemoRATS to pull their heads out of their colons, wake the hell up, open their eyes, and see the mega-errors of their ways and correct them. But that ain’t gonna happen because they have serious mental disorders.

The formula is really simple, if the Democrats are for it it is wrong. Just run it through that anything they are for is wrong. Anytime they speak they lie. So real simple filter to use and is accurate

You have to admit that Trump got it right on this one. We saved France’s ass twice last century and they still are a smug and arrogant nation, looking down their noses at the United States. Germany is much the same. Wind and solar will not fill the gap for them. I say let Europe suffer. Stay home and don’t visit the old world. Perhaps they will learn something from this self-inflicted disaster.

So,I have a question to everyone out there. If we are indeed energy independent, why are we paying so much more for home heating oil and gasoline for our cars? I would appreciate your answers.

So, where’s the explanation, if energy independence is a working factor, where’s the explanation for our high fuel prices in America? We all know, they have nothing to do with supply and demand…it has to do with speculation on the market. If we can produce what we need, here within our own borders, then what does that have to do with world prices? If we are “independent” then someone is lying. I remember when Trump’s first term gleaned gas below $2 a gallon. It should have stayed there or even declined, had we remained “independent” and even able to export. So what’s the problem: We all know it’s not supply and demand…..it’s politics and power. What if we Americans just stopped buying fuel for a couple of weeks….and sent the message…..make “self service” a reality when it comes to ” independence.” Any ideas other wise???

President Trump is president because there are unseen powers, rulers and principalities that he is capable of commanding authority over and this is why he trumps over the adversaries as well as the critics. His faith and his mindset is that of a unbeatable Master and Commander it is his faith that enables him . I’m just hoping he takes up jogging as it is the most effective brain stimulator and enhances the mind and staves off type diabetes.

Maybe I’m naive but if the USA is independent from foreign oil, why are we paying for it at the pumps? We don’t have to buy it at the Brent oil per barrel price, or do we and if so why?

Sec Burgum (Wednesday March 25) reported that the US brought back $100 Million in gold from his trip to Venzeuela for US refineries. What is deal on this , does US keep the money for gold or give it back to Venzeuela? The WH does not say much about what is happening in that country except that it is going well.
