The Trump administration’s efforts to enforce immigration law and deport illegal aliens have resulted in a disturbing new trend – activist-minded police chiefs who seem more concerned with protecting foreign drug dealers and gang members than law-abiding citizens.
In deep blue enclaves throughout the country, left-wing police chiefs are now actively thwarting immigration enforcement efforts and even threatening to criminally charge federal agents for doing their job. This alarming development is just the latest example of the left’s war on the criminal justice system and law and order itself.
Several police chiefs have gone viral in just the past few weeks for their very public – and often childish – response to immigration enforcement. On January 9, Portland, Oregon, Police Chief Bob Day began crying while discussing two criminal illegal aliens who were shot by federal law enforcement during a deportation operation the night before.
The two individuals were shot after one of them, Luis David Nino-Moncada, tried to hit Border Patrol agents with his car during a traffic stop. The shooting happened just one day after Renee Good, a left-wing anti-ICE activist, tried to hit federal officers in Minneapolis and was subsequently shot.
“Nino-Moncada is a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela and suspected Tren de Aragua gang member,” the Department of Homeland Security announced. Law enforcement also shot Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras, who “is a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela and is associated with the Tren de Aragua gang.” She is accused of being part of a prostitution ring run by the gang and was involved in a similar shooting in July.
The two fled the scene in their car, only to be apprehended later.
In a shocking dereliction of duty, Day’s concern was not for the brave law enforcement who were risking their lives to keep Portland’s streets safe, but rather for the illegal aliens and the “Latino community.”
After giving a straight-faced update on related law enforcement operations regarding Tren de Aragua, Day said he “hesitated” to even discuss the ongoing criminal activity because it might stigmatize Latinos (the vast majority of whom are law-abiding and fully support efforts to identify and arrest criminal gang members).
“I hesitated to even share this information initially because I am very aware of the very historic injustice of victim blaming oftentimes portrayed by law enforcement,” Day said, casting blame on his own officers.
Choking back tears, Day went on to “speak for just a moment specifically to my Latino community,” saying “it saddens, it saddens me that we even have to qualify these remarks. Because I understand, or at least have attempted to understand through your voices, your concern, your fear, your anger.”
Now fully sobbing, Day said the information about the criminal ties of the illegal immigrants “in no way is meant to disparage or to condone or support or agree with any of the actions that occurred yesterday.”
All in all, the blubbering display was something you’d expect from a sociology professor at Portland State University rather than the top cop of the state’s largest city.
Day “expressed no relief that ordinary Americans no longer risked (unless they recover and a leftist judge releases them) being victimized at the hands of the two violent criminals who were shot,” Robert Spencer wrote in FrontPage Magazine. “Instead, Day’s sympathies were entirely with the gang members.”
Spencer suggested that Day’s real tears were because two potential Democrat voters were shot and may not be able to vote in future elections. “Democrats look out at every Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operation and see their voter base steadily shrinking,” Spencer wrote. “No wonder they’re moved to tears.”
Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles called on the police chief to resign over his comments. “You need to resign,” Knowles said, arguing that his “judgment is severely impaired.”
Unfortunately for the safety of American citizens, Day is not the only top law enforcement official who loses sleep at night over the plight of criminal illegal aliens.
Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal also recently called brave ICE officers “fake law enforcement” and threatened to arrest them for enforcing the law. Bilal accused ICE of being part of “Trump’s new army to attack citizens of the United States” and said that Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner would “lock them up.” (Notably, Soros-funded prosecutor Krasner often refuses to prosecute drug- and gun-related crimes, as AMAC Newsline previously reported.)
It’s one thing (though still detestable) to hear Democrat politicians like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker launch attacks on ICE agents to curry favor with their far-left base and make a name for themselves. But it is incredibly dangerous when police leaders, who take an oath to faithfully defend the laws of the country, side with criminals over the rule of law.
When law enforcement becomes politicized and police chiefs become partisan actors, public safety suffers, and law-abiding citizens pay the price.

Do any of these so called law enforcement recall taking an oath of office, let alone to their constituents? The law starts from the top down. States all have attorney generals, however they are usually the same shade as their governor. That’s why there is a federal attorney general to keep states in line. We all know that’s not happened for some time. Arresting, removing and incarceration is the only solution, then the dominoes will fall. Until those masquerading as authority are deposed, it’s crime over law and order.
What a weak pathetic example for the men and women under Day’s leadership. He exudes weakness and is totally void of courage. Perhaps he should apply for a job as a social worker instead of an officer of the law. Maybe Mamdani will hire him to work in the socialist republic of New York City.
It is definitely sad when high police and sheriff authorities are taking the side of the criminal elements rather than protecting their citizens justly. For a police chief to sobbing was definitely pathetic but this just another one of many tactics that the Democrats are using to mislead the public.

It is time for Federal Authorities to arrest Police Chiefs, DA’s, Mayors, Governors, etc. who threaten to arrest and impede ICE personnel while they are doing their duty as prescribed by the American People. Surely, there must be Federal Statutes which prohibit such conduct under penalty of imprisonment. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of rabid radical left officials being engaged in criminal acts while threatening members of ICE who are trying to catch violent illegal criminals. Police chiefs in these sanctuary cities are not protecting the citizens but the criminals. Their voter base. The police chief Day was more concerned of offending criminals than law abiding citizens who have been hurt 24/7 since Jan 20-2025. The left wants to keep their illegals here. As a retired State Trooper, I believe these political hacks are part of the problem. I am embarrassed for my chosen profession as well as for all the brave, dedicated active and retired law enforcement professionals. This chief and others don’t realize that they are being used by the democrat media and the democrats to achieve total power by protecting these illegals so they will become a huge voting block for the democrats. As others have correctly said, they swore an oath to enforce ALL laws. Sanctuary cities and sanctuary policies are against the LAW. During my service we cooperated fully with Immigration after we made an arrest for state law infractions. We would inform Immigration of the arrest and the arrestee would be held until Immigration picked them up. If this was allowed in sanctuary states and cities we would not see the anarchy in the streets that we are seeing. As always the democrat run media ignores this fact and the result is ANARCHY. God Speed ICE! We are with you and appreciate your brave efforts to protect us!

As a person that put a career in the justice system, I completely agree. The indoctrination of our law enforcement serves only to weaken the officers and prosecutors often resulting in more crime and people left enduring the consequences of being victims. It spreads like the disease it is.

I am a retired LEO and have children that are currently law. enforcement officers. None of the people I worked with would ever agree with these out of touch chiefs that are not enforcing the law. When police officers of any rank, become officers, they swear an Oath. Included in that Oath is the promise to enforce their state and US Constitutions. They swear to do so without prejudice or personal opinion influencing their work. That is not happening with these chiefs, but what people are forgetting is that they do NOT have a choice. Legally, officers are supposed to arrest ANYONE that commits a misdemeanor or felony, without hesitation. In other words, they, by law, cannot pick and choose which laws they are going to enforce, that would be ripe for corruption. This chief, and others, are violating their oaths and can, and should, be removed from office. Why take an Oath or promise to do your job without prejudice or any other factors? If the authorities started removing these police chiefs that are not enforcing the law, we’d see how quickly their tune would change. They should be suspended without pay and removal procedures immediately enacted.
Shame on all the folks in blue who have pledged to serve and protect and elect instead to stand down and look the other way. All of these folks should be fired and replaced or bring in the national guard to enforce the law.

As I watched Day crying, I couldn’t help but laugh. Such a sissy sally suzy crybaby sniveling sycophant has no place being the chief of any police department, even in sissy sally suzy Portland, the U.S. capitol of the new moronic Marxist movement in America.
For better or worse, federal law and its enforcement have priority over state/local law enforcement. This has been repeatedly demonstrated (e.g., enforcement of federal desegregation mandates despite state/local resistance; federal mobilization of National Guard for deployment overseas despite state objections). So, it is time for the President to impound federal aid to states/localities obstructing ICE, and if that fails to get governors and mayors to obey the law, then federalize the Guard and implement the Insurrection Act, as was done as far back as George Washington’s presidency.
Lock the up for obstruction of Justice and make sure they go before a Conservative Judge.
Its not that these Activist chiefs like crime, they just like potential voters better. They know that their own American voters of both parties are fed up with the life style we nave to live under.
