House District 66

Dear Representative Schriver,
On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), which has more than 2 million members nationwide, including over 73,000 in Michigan, we write in strong support of the Justice for Babies in the Womb Act (H.B. 4671).
AMAC believes the right to life is not only granted by God but recognized in our Declaration of Independence as an unalienable right. We fight to protect the most vulnerable and defend the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. Supporting and preserving precious human life is essential, vital, and a moral imperative. Consistent with these principles, AMAC also believes taxpayer dollars should never be used to fund the practice of abortion.
H.B. 4671 reflects these principles by seeking to extend Michigan’s existing protections under its assault and homicide laws to unborn children. The legislation defines an unborn child as a living human being before birth, beginning at fertilization, and provides legal protections for human life from its earliest stage.
Additionally, the bill also includes necessary safeguards for families involving pregnancy loss and medical emergencies. It provides protections related to spontaneous miscarriage and procedures intended to save the life or preserve the health of an unborn child. It also addresses life-saving procedures for a pregnant woman when reasonable steps are taken to preserve the life of her unborn child.
AMAC Action believes every human life has inherent dignity and value, and that our laws should reflect the principle that the most vulnerable among us deserve protection. Thank you for introducing this important piece of legislation that honors the sanctity of life.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Bengtson
Vice President
