AMAC Magazine Exclusive – By Lillian Ferrell & Shane Harris

In February of this year, the Trump administration launched TrumpRx.gov, a visionary online platform for Americans to purchase prescription medications at steeply discounted rates. Six months in, the savings have been extraordinary, with new drugs being added at a rapid clip.

Put simply, TrumpRx allows consumers to buy medications directly from pharmaceutical companies rather than going through their insurance. While Americans have historically paid more than other developed nations for the same drugs, TrumpRx aims to close that gap by eliminating middlemen who drive up prices.

Specifically, TrumpRx works by the Trump administration reaching an agreement with pharmaceutical manufacturers to offer drugs at the “most-favored-nation” (MFN) price. The MFN price is calculated using the lowest price paid in a nation that is part of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with a per-capita GDP of at least 60 percent of the US per capita GDP.

As of early June, prescription drug prices were down 2.4 percent since the launch of TrumpRx, including a 0.9 percent reduction in May alone. Just two weeks after TrumpRx’s launch, the site had attracted 12 million visitors and generated an estimated $500 million in consumer savings. According to the Council of Economic Advisers, the initiative could generate approximately $600 billion in savings over the next decade alone.

TrumpRx includes both brand-name and generic drugs, with more than 600 generics listed. Discounts range from 33 to 93 percent off list prices, depending on the medication. In some cases, TrumpRx pricing is lower than comparable international prices, including those in Canada.

Administration officials have highlighted major discounts across widely used drug categories, including GLP-1 weight-loss medications, diabetes treatments, inhalers, HIV therapies, fertility drugs, and more.

Examples include:

  • Wegovy: approximately $149/month, down from $1,349
  • Ozempic: approximately $199/month, down from $1,028
  • Gonal-F (450 IU pen): $252, down from $1,449

TrumpRx is also consistently adding new medications to serve more Americans. In June, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced an expansion of the platform with 160 additional drug listings. This brought the total to roughly 750 medications.

Following the expansion, President Trump posted on Truth Social that TrumpRx would provide “clear, transparent, and DISCOUNTED offerings for FOUR OUT OF FIVE of every prescription filled by Americans.”

One discount at a time, President Trump is rewriting the rules of prescription drug pricing—and fulfilling a major promise to the American people. While critics insisted that TrumpRx would flop and would not deliver real price relief, the results speak for themselves.

By bringing greater transparency and competition to the prescription drug marketplace, TrumpRx is beginning to fix a long-broken system and help Americans get the medications they need at an affordable rate.

Once again President Trump is working for the people. He has created jobs, increased wages, lowered cost of medicines and found fraud everywhere and stopped it. The save America act wil pass and fraudulent elections will cease. The courts no longer will govern our country. These communist candidates they pushed forward will lose in november. They have to will America survive. Obama care is a backbreaker for the Americans and allowing 20 million into this country was another. We don’t owe anything to these people. They want to glean the riches and then change the country to their hand. They do not contribute they alter America.

TrumpRX works but it takes some effort. True, all medications are not included yet but they add new additional ones every day. I take a brand name thyroid medication so Medicare wouldn’t cover it. They only want to cover generic even if Dr orders the brand. It was over $300 each time and I had to get it using a Good RX card which was somewhat of a reduction but still costly for a fixed income. You have to print a coupon from the trumprx website for your medication. Then take the coupon to your pharmacy for use with your Dr prescription. I took it to 3 pharmacies, including Walgreen’s, who all said they were not honoring the coupons. Pharmacies are not required to participate. Then I went to CVS and they did honor the coupon. I paid about $55 for a 90 day supply.

I can only applaud any improvements made in this field. I take NO prescription med, so can’t appreciate this reduction, but can comment that from “sugar free” products to life saving medications, it seems the chronically ill are the ones most hurt by insurance and prescriptions. This may not be enough, as 199.00 per month is still huge, for most budgets.

The problem is that some pharmacy chains, like Walgreens, are not acceptiong the TrumpRX dicount coupons. I could not get my medication there and had to go to another pharmacy.
I wonder, is it incompetence, or is Walgreens undermining President’s Trump agenda?

Honestly, a reduction in price for weight loss drugs does absolutely nothing for reducing the cost of medications for senior citizens. My wife’s drugs continue to increase in cost.
One of the drugs is over $900. The drug companies are playing games.
