After a marathon session on Wednesday that stretched into Thursday morning, the House of Representatives narrowly passed a budget reconciliation package containing many of President Donald Trump’s key domestic priorities – what he has termed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” AMAC Action had notably led a grassroots advocacy campaign empowering AMAC members to urge their representatives in Washington to pass the bill.

The final vote tally was 215-214, with every Democrat on the floor voting no. Two Republicans also voted no, and one voted present, but absences in the House allowed the bill to pass.

The vote was a major victory for both Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, who had promised to pass the bill through the House before Memorial Day. After Republicans had worked on the bill for months, it appeared earlier this week that holdouts from some GOP members might sink the legislation. The bill failed a Budget Committee vote on Sunday before last-minute changes enabled it to pass on Monday and move to the House floor.

Still, concerns from some Republican members that the bill didn’t contain enough spending cuts made final passage dicey. On Wednesday, Trump made the short trip to the Capitol to personally lobby on-the-fence members to back the legislation – a move that may well have been the deciding factor.

The House debated the bill overnight before clearing the last major procedural hurdle around 2:40 am Thursday morning, a vote on the rule limiting debate on the bill. Just over four hours later, the chamber passed the bill, eliciting shouts and applause from Republicans who had stuck around to see the final count.

The version that ultimately passed the House delivers on many of Trump’s key 2024 campaign promises, primarily an extension of the tax cuts in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that were due to expire at the end of this year. Without an extension of those tax cuts, Americans would have seen what would effectively have been the largest tax hike in history.

The bill also eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay, includes tax deductions for purchasing an American-made vehicle, slashes taxes on Social Security income, and increases the child tax credit. The average American family can expect a double-digit percentage decrease in their tax bill, coming out to around $5,000 more in their pocket come tax season.

One of the biggest sticking points for some Republicans was the state and local tax (SALT) deduction. After heated debate, the bill increases the maximum SALT deduction from $10,000 to $40,000 for taxpayers reporting less than $500,000 in income.

Another major provision of the bill is increased funding for border security. That funding should allow the Trump administration to complete the border wall, along with hiring 10,000 new ICE personnel, 5,000 new customs officers, and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents, and giving $10,000 bonuses to existing agents.

Democrats had centered their opposition to the bill on “cuts” to some social safety net programs, primarily Medicaid, specifically noting that “millions” of people would lose their coverage. But as Republicans stressed, the bill only targets populations who should never have been on Medicaid in the first place, such as illegal aliens and able-bodied, working-age adults who refuse to seek employment.

A bevy of other changes also fulfill the mandate voters delivered to Trump last November. The bill ends taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for minors, phases out most of the “green” subsidies in Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, incentivizes companies to build products in America, funds Trump’s vision for a “Golden Dome” missile defense shield, boosts military shipbuilding, opens up more oil and gas leases to provide cheaper energy, and increases mineral leases to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign suppliers of critical minerals.

The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it will face its next big test. Under the budget reconciliation process, the bill can pass the upper chamber with just 51 votes, rather than the usual 60 required by the filibuster rule.

Won by one vote?? Another reason we have to cleanse the government of democrats!

The senate reps are now having to show their backbone. Vote for this bill. Don’t let the dems destroy this country. We have had enough of the fake regime we had in Biden’s name. Anything they did the past 4 years is all a lie and they still vote against what is good for the country. Not one democrat had the guts to go against the dictators in the dem party. Just to eliminate Trump. What was good for the citizens they ignored. After all they replaced us with 20 million illegals who are beholden to the dems for their existence. That is who they work for in the House and Senate. The bill could be passed today if the republicans were as United as these communists on the other side.

Not one Democrat voted yes! They are an insult to all Americans, and I pray that many are voted out of office in the upcoming election cycles.

As to be expected, passed with the scraped back, Dems all voted anti which too is to be expected . Time for the voter to take off the blinders and see them in true light, might be ugly to look at but that is the reality, not rosy.

Hey Senate, DON’T F**K UP!!! We’re only four months into DJT’s term and we’re WINNING!!! Any concerns (not enough spending cuts) can be addressed moving forward, if Congress really wants to do its job. MAGA!!!!

Sad to see that no Democrats voted for this Bill. They need to vote for their constituents, instead of just along political lines. Our legislative branch is almost non-functional because of trivial infighting between parties. Hopefully, a lot of voters of all parties will take a hard look at how bad the situation has gotten in the past few Congresses & change their party affiliation or at least to align with those that do the will of the people! This bill will provide a lot of tax relief for many lower & medium income families.

Taxes should have been eliminated on social security and should not be included as taxable income which is a big failure on this bill. We have paid our dues. Shameful!

You may wonder why the “no tax on social security” is not in the Big Beautiful Tax Bill. This may answer that question:
In 2023, the Social Security trust funds collected approximately $51 billion in revenue from taxes on Social Security benefits and $67 billion from interest on accumulated reserves. The Social Security Administration estimates that 183 million workers contributed $1.2 trillion in payroll taxes to the trust funds during 2023. This means they are collecting too much revenue on taxing social security benefits to do away with it. The taxation on Social Security started in 1983 and Congress has never increased the taxing threshholds to account for inflation. They factor in inflation for adjusting all other threshholds except for social security taxation. The threshholds in 1983 (42 years ago) were set at $25,000 for single taxpayers and $32,000 for married couples. It is the same in 2025 and going forward. Seniors in 2025 have an extra deduction of $1600 ea if MFJ and $2000 for Singles. They are proposing to increase that to $4000. That is an increase of $2400 ea for MFJ and $2000 for Singles. You will still have to include up to 85% of your gross social security income (includes the amt deducted for medicare) as taxable income.

Not keeping your campaign promise can prove to be costly for Republicans in the midterms. Seniors were told “No tax on Social Security” and are expecting it. Afterall, they have not seen Congress give any relief in 42 years from this heavy tax burden!

I am totally disgusted with our two party system. This nation has been weaponized by oligarchs who run the world through their lavish contributions to a party and rinos who could care less about America/Americans. BTW once their oaths have been broken they should immediately be cuffed and led to a holding cell while awaiting sentencing. Once sentenced, they would spend one year in a maximum prison and could never again hold office. This would also apply to employees, scotus, Federal and state judges, etc. The games that are now played will stop and a common sense approach to governing would be adopted. Please remember, these people work for us and what’s taken place in the past is lying, cheating, corruption, theft, and a host of other lawless activities, all on our dime.

Huge supporter of Trump and Conservatives, however, VERY DISAPPOINTED in “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”! Eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay (I support this, but these people are not on a fixed income), increase deduction amount for SALT 4x to 40k meaning we are subsidizing poorly run States for people making as much as 500k. And basically doing nothing for Seniors on Social Security, only reducing taxable income by 4k which equates to a mere $600 if you are in a 15% Tax Bracket! SHAMEFUL!

I fail to see how this is such an overwhelming victory. We had Republican holdout, and every damn demoncrap in the house voted no. This is a disgrace to the American people. Demoncraps keep telling America they are for tge people. THIS IS THE BIGGEST LIE THESE WORTHLESS, LOWER THAN DIRT, POLITICIANS TELL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! The worst part, is that it still has to pass the senate. How many republican dirtbags are going to fight against this? We already know every stinking DEMONCRAP will vote against it. The political atmosphere in tge country is abysmal. DEMONCRAPS have one, and only one agenda, and that is to vote against anything, and everything Trump is trying to do. I am many times ashamed of those in who are supposed to be in charge of seeing this country prosper.

This PROPOSED Bill passed the House, only by ONE VOTE, with ZERO Yes votes FROM DEMOCRATS along with a couple more NO Votes from The RINOS. Nothing surprising there. Let’s hope that ALL Republicans in The Senate PASS the Bill,so Trump can sign it into Law. The article reports that the House Bill only “Slashes”??? the promised NO TAXES ON SOCIAL SECURITY.I hope that The Senate Republicans ALL remember to dance with one that brought them to the dance.

President Trump promised that social security would not be income taxed. That’s NOT in the bill. A $4,000 credit for seniors? Big deal. I have to pay income taxes on 85% (the maximum) of my social security.

“slashes taxes on Social Security income”
Baloney! All this bill does is increase the standard deduction for people over 65 by $4000. It only applies if you don’t itemize your tax return. This is a deduction, not a credit. My wife and I pay over $4000 a year on our social security because we both have pensions from working in underpaid school and municipal jobs.
Trump promised there would be no taxes on Social Security. They did; however, increase the cap on SALT deductions to $40,000. This means those of us in low tax states will be paying these people in blue states for their state’s over taxation. I see no difference between this and the tuition forgiveness Biden was doing. I pay more taxes so people in blue states don’t. Of course, blue states can now increase their taxes again because we get to pay for it.
If there weren’t positives like the extension of the tax cuts I’d be getting ready to recall my congressman. AMAC should be careful how they report on this bill and tell the truth about what affects seniors. Don’t lie about “slashes taxes on Social Security income,” It’s a pittance compared to the SALT change. WHOOPIE!

I am happy the bill passed the House. I would like to point out something I saw on Facebook: “80 million Americans support Donald Trump, not the GOP.” I have no problems with the GOP, in fact that is the party I usually vote for. The problem though is many Republicans in Washington feel they have to “Go along to get along.” That is not what the American people want. We voted Trump back in because he would challenge the establishment not try to play nice with them.

Thank you House Republicans (minus a few that will be primaried)! ALL that voted against the “One BIG Beautiful Bill” should be considered anti-American. NOT ONE socialist liberal democrat voted for this middle-class saving bill. WHO would want our taxes increased 68%?? They (democrats) don’t care about the taxpayers ALL they care about is their control OVER the taxpayer. The bill ends taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for minors, phases out most of the “green” subsidies in Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, incentivizes companies to build products in America, funds Trump’s vision for a “Golden Dome” missile defense shield, boosts military shipbuilding, opens up more oil and gas leases to provide cheaper energy, and increases mineral leases to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign suppliers. Thank You again President Trump.

A squeaker, but it passed! Now, it’s up to the Republicans in the Senate to send it to DJT for his signature. The White House press secretary said the Big Beautiful Bill won’t increase the deficit. Then why does it raise the debt ceiling by $4 trillion? Is the GOP only against raising the debt ceiling when Democrats are in the White House?

Instead of eliminating taxes on Social Security as was promised by the President, they gave a $4,000-4 year deduction for seniors earning less than $75,000/year. Who thinks $75,000 is a lot of money, especially if you are still paying off a mortgage? Why have a cap at all?

At the same time, they gave New Yorkers & Californians up to a $40,000 SALT deduction for taxpayers who earn up to $500,000.00. REALLY? A half-million dollars? Like they really need the tax break, and they’re not even required to be seniors.

It might be a lot of money for those living in the Midwest, but $75,000 is nothing to seniors living in the DC area. Most of us will get nothing – again. This is not what the President promised.

There were no taxes on Social Security until 1986. The $4,000 ($8,000 per couple) is a deduction. So $8,000 of our SS income will not be taxable. Big deal. In the 12% bracket, that amounts to a whopping $960 for a couple, or $480 for a single recipient. In the meantime, they shoot the SALT deduction through the roof, so CA and NY can more easily tax the heck out of their serfs (eh..constituents).

Does this mean the Republican party is okay with increasing the National Debt & is not worried what this means to future of USA? It is important that the US dollar remains as the Global Reserve Currency. And is everyone aware of the top three countries that own the treasury notes for that debt & that the biggest reason they have bought the debt is because our dollar is strong. Another note, why invest in cryptocurrency instead of US dollar as it seems that is going against our US dollar?

Both Republicans & Democrats That comprise the Legislative Branch should vote for what is best for all Americans & not just vote what their party wants to pass. Cannot believe that Congress will pass a bill that will increase our Federal debt in the future? This bill only kicks the problem down the road to future administrations. Moody stripped USA from Aaa status on May 18 th and what have we learned from that?

Oh – don’t be so hard on “Democrats.” After all, it was likely the ccp that inspired the Democrats and people like George Soros to occupy the White House and then continued to pay off everyone anywhere near Joe Biden. So, OK it’s worse than you thought, then? I believe it is, and likely still is in some circles, parties, agencies, etc. So, rather than just party ideology, it’s actually a combination of enemy forces and treasonous people still around / possibly still working for the Fed. So, if that’s true WHY don’t the Republicans all see this and stick together to completely clean house? Probably because they’re half way believing the main stream media too. If you try to write an email to anyone in Congress, you better live in their area (be a “constituen” ) because obviously the American people at large have no voice. If you try to tell the GOP / RNC anything, you better be ready to donate for them to pretend they heard you. Perhaps God Sent Donald Trump and Elon Musk to save us. Somebody has to!

  • Disappointed in the bill. Yes it has good points but caving on SALT a disgrace. Now I worry what else on the 2017 tax cuts were changed no one is telling us about. The loss of Federal money from the change up to $500,000 I understand is millions from what I’ve read.
