The Military’s Back, Baby: Why America’s Youth Are Signing Up Again

The United States military is seeing its biggest recruitment surge in more than a decade, and it’s no mystery why. After years of watching the Biden administration turn our armed forces into a woke Marxist social experiment, President Donald Trump’s bold, unapologetic America First vision is inspiring the country’s young patriots to step up to serve.

The Army in particular is crushing it. As of mid-April, the military’s largest branch had already enlisted more than 51,000 recruits, or roughly 85 percent of its 61,000 recruit target for fiscal year 2025. At this point in 2024, the Army had hit just 64 percent of its goal. For the first time in years, there’s a real groundswell of young people eager to join up. The kids are alright, and they’re answering the call. Here’s why.

First, let’s talk leadership. When Trump won last November, it sent a shockwave through the heartland. Young Americans – especially the working-class and middle-class folks who’ve always been the backbone of our military – saw a Commander-in-Chief who doesn’t bow to the woke mob and exudes the confidence and strength that Americans have always admired.

What liberals fail to understand is that young people don’t join the military for endless diversity seminars or to learn how to use “preferred pronouns.” They’re signing up to fight for the United States of America and test their mettle alongside the toughest men and women in the country.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gets it. He’s out there saying what we’ve all been thinking: the military needs warriors, not activists. His pledge to ditch the DEI nonsense and focus on lethality is resonating. As Hegseth put it, “America’s youth want to serve under bold & strong ‘America First’ leadership.” Damn right they do.

Hegseth is also walking the walk – on multiple occasions, the Pentagon chief has ditched the suit and tie for gym shorts and a T-shirt to train with enlisted troops.

Second, the military is also getting smart about who they’re recruiting and how. The Army’s Future Soldier Preparatory Course in particular is a game-changer. It takes young folks who might not meet the strict physical or academic standards – thanks to a society hooked on junk food and failing schools – and gives them up to 90 days to get in fighting shape. Over 13,000 recruits went through it in 2024 alone, and it’s paying off. The Army’s not lowering standards; they’re giving patriots a chance to meet them. That’s the kind of practical, results-driven approach we need.

Third, the military under Trump is ditching all the “woke” nonsense that was a recruitment killer. For years, we heard critics (including me) warning that injecting politics into the military—pushing Critical Race Theory, gender ideology, and other divisive left-wing nonsense – was driving away the very people who’d otherwise serve.

Surveys showed only five percent of young people cited “wokeness” as a reason not to enlist, but that’s because most don’t articulate it that way. They just know they don’t want to join an institution that feels more like a liberal college campus than a fighting force. It’s no surprise that Army recruiting ticked up when it ditched “diversity”-themed ads in favor of more traditional recruiting strategies that emphasized toughness and grit.

With Trump and Hegseth signaling a return to mission-first values, the results are obvious, and the data backs it up. Enlistments started climbing in mid-2024, well before the election, as the Army overhauled its recruiting enterprise. But the post-election surge? That’s the Trump effect.

Finally, there’s something deeper at play: a hunger for purpose. Today’s youth are bombarded with TikTok, endless consumerism, and a culture that glorifies weakness. But deep down, they crave meaning – something bigger than themselves. The military offers that.

Recruits are coming from families who see service as a path to personal accomplishment, discipline, and opportunity. And with the Army streamlining enlistment processes and expanding training capacity, it’s easier than ever for them to say “yes.”

Don’t get me wrong – challenges remain. Only 23 percent of young Americans are physically, mentally, and morally fit to serve without waivers. Obesity, mental health issues, and a broken education system are real hurdles. The civilian job market is also fierce, offering tech and trade jobs that compete with military benefits. And yes, the demographic cliff in 2026, when the college-age population drops, is looming.

But the momentum is undeniable. Women are enlisting at record rates – nearly 10,000 in 2024 alone – proving this isn’t just a “white male” surge, despite what some cynics claim.

This surge isn’t just about numbers; it’s about a cultural shift. Young Americans are rejecting the victimhood mentality and embracing the warrior ethos. They’re inspired by a president who projects strength and a Pentagon that’s getting back to basics. As someone who served 32 years, I’ve never been prouder to see the next generation step up. The military’s back, baby, and it’s because America’s youth are ready to fight for the greatest nation on Earth.

Let’s keep the pedal to the metal.

When one looks at how the rotten radical libs have been trying to act as if we are a nation of one- gender people, it is a good thing that young men are now able to really enjoy their masculinity. Not having strong, healthy men to be in the military makes a country weak. It is great that this trend is turning around. Now, let’s get men out of women’s sports and their locker rooms and bathrooms!!

Semper Fi. Macho men are back. Not Namby Pamby drag queens, no longer trans and fat is beautiful. That only led to weakness and our enemies floating balloons over our country at will, buying land near our bases. But an upright testosterone laden male they didn’t want. Did Biden think nobody would notice how weak our soldiers had become. Instead of training to become fit and able soldiers they were in the classroom learning CRT and DEI and correct pronouns. A country is only as strong as its military. And under Biden that wasn’t saying much. Every day America stands a little taller a little stronger due to president Trump and our secretary of defense Pete Hegseth. Who they are trying to destroy like they tried with Trump. Only Pete is like Donald strong and honest which always wins over weakness and lies.

My personal experience and belief is that the military and a military experience, instills in young adult Americans, a sense of pride. Pride in country of course. But also, pride in accomplishment. Pride in purpose. Pride in self. Pride in corps. A sense of can-do accomplishment.

Why would sane people want to join Biden’s army where all the blacks, gays, etc. are victims and the white men are oppressors? Exactly HOW was that supposed to build COHESION?

There is no such thing as a “military recruiting problem.” When a government promotes ideals people are willing to fight and die for, there is never any trouble finding good volunteers.

Patriots enlisting didn’t want to be part of an on-going ‘drag show’ or parade. Typically those who join have something to prove. If we run a sissy military, the chances of another attack on America is great. Biden and the Dems are seriously out of touch with all that makes America great.

I guess recruitement is good because they want to focus on being a soldier instead of a racial or gender experiment with new pronounciations of the English language.

To be honest, I wondered if CCP would take the advantage during Biden’s administration, given a weakened military with fewer soldiers, to go after Taiwan, or even our country itself. I’m quite glad that didn’t happen. And I seriously doubt Xi will try anything while DJT is in the White House, and he’s overseeing our military built back up.

America was able to get so many great commercial airplane pilots from the US military for so many years, they were trained by the best. So qualified, but I don’t know why that stopped.

About two years ago at this time my grandson was in OSUT Infantry training at Fort Benning (so happy that it’s Benning again, I respect the heck out of Hal Moore but I also respect military history). During his graduation, his company could recite The Infantryman’s Creed and sing the Army song (not the one I remember) but when it came to marching, some couldn’t stay in step. Not to knock the Drill Sergeants but I spent a few years in the Army as a Personnel Sergeant and yet, could have taught the “Smokey Bears” a few things. It was nice to be back on a military installation but I was somewhat saddened to see and hear how order had declined.

Time to upgrade on base facilities and get jobs back for dependent family members and get rid of those darn self check outs at the exchange. The current (4) four can stay be get real folks at those registers, please. Healthier quick food for the troops would be great. Of course, military hospitals have sadly disappeared. Lots to “fix” in the next four + year.
It can be done!

Woke is weak
Action means Attack
Big differences in useless political rhetoric….
FYI- More people in the USA prisons than in our military. Ingest. Politicians are a waste of taxpayer money.

The level of BS is sickening. The recruitment numbers are VERY modestly up but remain horribly behind the numbers the neo cons war hawks seem to wish for. One also has to recall that the lowered standards allowed under Biden are still in place so many or our latest recruits could be and in too many cases are, well slow. The PT standards were also reduced and in no way have all the DEI toss ins been removed. We saw the result of that recently when we had a ‘Barbie” helicopter pilot fly directly into a passenger plane. Why was she a pilot even after numerous reports of her not following suggestions by other pilots with more flight hours? Because of her genitalia that’s why.
So yeah, yell “hurrah” all you want but the truth is being hedged here. It doesn’t really matter though as we lose every conflict we get ourselves involved in anyway. A record of abject failure going back some 80 years this year.

I’m sure purging the military of policies (like the woke DEI stuff) and people who weaken our forces fighting capacity. But, I also tend to think we have a President who has wisely pledged to stay out of foreign conflicts that have only a marginal impact on us and has opted to exert our strength in non military ways. This means lots of great jobs and education in the military for young folks where the risk of losing ones life overseas is greatly diminished. More are willing to take the risk that they won’t be physically facing enemy combatants on a battlefield. Granted there are still dangerous jobs that need to be done by brave young people. But the risk is lessened.

As long as we keep sending our troops into harms way and NOT declaring war we are killing our people off for made up BS.Wall Street, and big banks run the Military war machine. They bet on how many they can kill off in these wars and make big money off them.Look at Vietnam,58k killed for nothing and God nows how many scared for life. The Military is a great place to learn to be a man.But it is used and run by greedy people for their entertainment,to make money and population control.

Rather than feeling some pressing need to say, assist the Israeli military in their mass murder of helpless unarmed women and children in Gaza, might most of the recent modest uptick in military recruits be more a product of their being few jobs in the real world? That on top of the popular practice of female recruits of signing up, completing basic training and then deciding to start a family, i.e., becoming pregnant and thus earning a discharge with benefits that include pre and post natal care?
I don’t see any super patriotic act this nation has embarked on to count this small increase to some sense of patriotism. If these people are indeed desirous of military entry because of our complicity in genocide then may God help this nation.

I hope that this news is not real, but today May 1st I saw this on news…..that Pete Hegsbeth posted o social media X a strong warning to Iran & that Iran will see consequences. I sincerely hope that the White House & Trump will quit posting on social media like this, and share the news to the national media. A threat to anyone on social media is wrong & hope that Congress stops this before it gets worse. Trump said he wants to unite Americans & this is not the way to do it. This is the ART OF BAD DEALS.

What the author didn’t mention is the Army hit its target last year (2024) for the first time since 2021 (military.com). For 2025, a significant portion of the total comes from the service’s delayed-entry program, which is composed of recruits who signed up last year but are only now shipping out to basic training (military.com). The uptick has more to do with aggressive recruiting tactics the Army started in 2024, rather than eliminating “woke” policies.
