If you’re like most people, you’ve got your apps all over the place and you haven’t seen your wallpaper photo since before the pandemic. We get it. It’s called clutter and a messy home screen with too many apps can be as bad for our mental health as a messy room.

Don’t worry. Right here, right now, in the spirit of spring cleaning, we’re going to help you organize your iPhone and Android apps. It’s easy and, when you’re done, you’re going to feel refreshed with the results.

Assess Your Current Apps

Begin by reviewing all the applications installed on your device:

  • Identify Unused Apps: Delete apps you rarely or never use to free up space and reduce clutter.
  • Prioritize Essential Apps: Determine which apps are most important to you, such as those for communication, health, or entertainment.

Organize Apps into Folders

Grouping similar apps into folders will streamline your home screen:

  • Create Themed Folders: For example, combine all your news apps into a “News” folder, your puzzle and card games into a “Games” folder, and your personal security apps into a “Fraud Protection” folder.
  • How to Create Folders:
    • On iPhone: Press and hold an app until it wiggles, then drag it onto another app you want to group it with. This action creates a new folder, which you can name whatever you like.
    • On Android: Press and hold an app, then drag it onto another app to form a folder. You can then name the folder whatever is appropriate.

Utilize Widgets for Quick Access

Widgets provide at-a-glance information without opening the full app:

  • Add Useful Widgets: Consider adding a weather widget, calendar of events, or a news feed to your home screen for quick updates.
  • How to Add Widgets:
    • On iPhone: Press and hold an empty area on your home screen until the apps wiggle, select the “Edit” button in the upper left corner, tap “Add Widget,” and search or choose your desired widget.
    • On Android: Press and hold an empty space on your home screen, select “Widgets,” choose your desired widget, then drag it to the desired location on your home screen.

Leverage the App Library or Drawer

Both iPhones and Android devices offer features to manage and access your apps efficiently:

  • App Library (iPhone): Swipe left past your last home screen to access the App Library, where apps are automatically listed in alphabetical order.
  • App Drawer (Android): Access all installed apps by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, keeping your home screen less cluttered.

Regular Maintenance

Keep your device organized by periodically reviewing and updating your apps:

  • Monthly Review: Set a reminder to assess your apps monthly, uninstalling those you no longer need.
  • Update Apps: Regularly update your apps to ensure they run smoothly and benefit from the latest features and upgrades.

Seek Assistance When Needed

If you’re unsure about managing your apps:

  • Consult a Tech-Savvy Friend or Family Member: They can offer hands-on assistance and guidance.

Visit a Retail Store: Many smartphone retailers provide support services to help you organize your device.

By taking these steps, you’ve transformed your smartphone into a more organized and user-friendly tool, enhancing your digital experience and making daily tasks more manageable. Feels good, doesn’t it? Now, all your installed apps and the home screen is organized to your liking and easier than ever to use.

Don’t squander your credibility pushing Puretalk. Their customer service people are polite, but are not allowed to do what needs doing to be done to straighten up billing issues. They ripped me off on billing, canceled my service, and then had the gall to charge me $177 for the phone, saying that I had canceled the service. I will NEVER do business with them again!
