The Honorable Tim Scott
South Carolina Chairman, U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs
104 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Scott,
On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), with over 2 million members nationwide, I write to thank you for your principled leadership in advancing S. 2651, the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act of 2025.
At a time when skyrocketing housing costs and regulatory gridlock have left far too many Americans, especially seniors on fixed incomes, struggling to secure safe, affordable housing, your commitment to restoring opportunity and addressing long-neglected housing challenges is a welcome and necessary course correction. Your stewardship of the first bipartisan housing markup in over a decade is a rare and admirable example of what can happen when leaders prioritize results over rhetoric.
We are especially encouraged by the ROAD to Housing Act’s emphasis on expanding and preserving housing supply without top-down federal mandates; encouraging local zoning reforms through the Housing Supply Frameworks Act; streamlining rural housing programs and protecting small-town America; enhancing accountability through strengthened oversight of federal housing programs; and promoting economic mobility for families across generations.
Seniors across this country are not looking for handouts, they are looking for policies that respect their values, protect their communities, and secure the American Dream for their children and grandchildren. This legislation does just that. By focusing on practical solutions and working across the aisle without compromising core conservative principles, you are leading by example.
Thank you for your leadership on this important legislation and we look forward to working with you to move this bill forward in the 119th Congress.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
Senior Vice President

I disagree! Affordable Housing is code for “level the playing field” and “redistribute wealth” all veiled to look like they are helpful but in reality are just lowering our property values in favor of more condos and apartment homes. It is more handouts rather than hand-ups. Extension of government dole.
More welfare.
I have a rental home but how can i give low rent when it costs me approx $10,000/year for just insurance and real estate taxes on less than 1800 sf, no basement, no attic . LOWER TAXES AND FEES! how about no property taxes for seniors ? we paid through the nose for years.
What is affordable housing? Until land prices and building materials costs are reduced with a max interest rate under 5% prices will remain high
A lot of buzz words in the letter that could mean a great many things. Please explain what it is that is actually being done.
Please tell me, which one (1) of the eighteen (18) enumerated powers Congress has lets them interfere in the housing market? James Madison and Thomas Jefferson made clear Congress provides for the “general welfare” only through their enumerated powers and has no other power.
