By reinforcing protections around Social Security numbers from the start, this legislation helps to ensure a more secure foundation for all Americans.

Dear Congressman Smucker,

On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), with over 2 million members nationwide, I am writing to express our strong support for the Social Security Child Protection Act of 2025.

Your legislation provides an essential safeguard for our youngest citizens by directing the Social Security
Administration (SSA) to issue a new Social Security number (SSN) to children under the age of 14 whose SSN cards are lost or stolen during the mailing process. In an era where identity theft is rampant and increasingly sophisticated, early protection is imperative.

A child’s Social Security number is the key to their future financial and personal security. If compromised, it can result in years of damage, often undetected until adulthood. No child should have their financial identity at risk before they even open their first savings account.

This legislation is a proactive and responsible step to protect the integrity of the Social Security system that seniors depend on and that must be safeguarded for future generations. By reinforcing protections around SSNs from the start, we help ensure a more secure foundation for all Americans.

On behalf of AMAC Action, thank you for your leadership on this important issue. We commend your efforts to advance legislation that strengthens Social Security and protects our nation’s children from the growing threat of identity theft.

Sincerely,
Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
Senior Vice President
AMAC Action
