AMAC Supports Tax Credits for Family Caregivers in Ohio

Ohio's H.B. 279 would give family caregivers an income tax credit for out-of-pocket costs like home modifications, respite care, assistive equipment, and transportation.

Supporting family caregivers benefits Ohio families by making it financially easier to care for loved ones at home.

Dear Representatives Mathews and Williams:

On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), with over 2 million members nationwide, including over 81,400 in Ohio, I write in strong support of H.B. 279, Income Tax Credit for Family Caregiving Expenses.

Family caregivers provide an invaluable service to aging loved ones, often assuming significant financial and personal responsibilities to help them remain safely and independently in their own homes. H.B. 279 recognizes this contribution by providing meaningful tax relief for qualifying out-of-pocket caregiving expenses, including home modifications, assistive equipment, respite care, home-care services, and transportation.

Supporting family caregivers benefits both Ohio families and the state. By making it more financially feasible for families to care for loved ones at home, this legislation can help older Ohioans maintain their independence while potentially delaying or avoiding more costly institutional care.

AMAC Action strongly supports policies that empower families, promote independence, and help Americans age with dignity. We applaud your leadership on H.B. 279 and urge its passage by the Ohio General Assembly.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Bengtson

Vice President
