  • Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be an AMAC member?

Yes. These Short-Term Medical options are designed specifically for AMAC members who are under age 65.

Is Short-Term Medical the same as major medical insurance?

No. Short-Term Medical is limited-duration coverage meant to help during a gap. It may not cover pre-existing conditions or all essential health benefits.

How long can I keep Short-Term Medical coverage?

Maximum duration and renewability depend on the plan and the state where you live. Where offered, Short-Term Medical plan durations can range from 1-36 months. Your AMAC specialist will explain the rules that apply to you.

Does this replace Medicare?

No. Short-Term Medical is transitional coverage before you become eligible for Medicare. When you’re ready, AMAC can also help you review Medicare options.
