Canada’s Liberal Party decisively won in the country’s federal election on Monday, continuing the party’s decade of control. Mark Carney, who succeeded Justin Trudeau as prime minister last month, will continue to lead the government.

The Liberal Party is on pace to hold 168 seats in parliament, while the Conservative Party is expected to win 144. Liberals will likely ally with smaller left-wing parties to form a governing bloc, as 172 seats are needed for a majority. Once a coalition is formed, Liberals will govern for their fourth straight term.

Carney built a career in banking before becoming prime minister. In the private sector, he “headed up two G7 central banks, worked for more than a decade at Goldman Sachs, and chaired both Brookfield Asset Management and Bloomberg,” according to Politico.

As results came in and the election was called in the Liberal Party’s favor, Carney celebrated the results on X.

“For 37 days, in every corner of this country, our team worked to build a stronger Canada,” Carney said. “Thank you to everyone who put so much into this campaign.”

Pierre Poilievre led the Conservative Party in opposition and was favored to win earlier this year. Trudeau resigned in March amid low approval ratings due to issues such as the cost of living and mass migration. At one point, the Liberal Party’s approval rating was just 16 percent compared to the Conservative Party’s 45 percent. Trudeau faced a threat of a no-confidence vote as smaller allied parties threatened to break away.

However, the Liberal Party quickly recovered in the polls after Trudeau’s resignation. The defining issue in the final months of the race became President Donald Trump’s tariffs as Canadian businesses faced the prospect of being cut off from the U.S. market.

Trump shared his thoughts about the election Monday morning on Truth Social.

“Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the World, have your Car, Steel, Aluminum, Lumber, Energy, and all other businesses, QUADRUPLE in size, WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America,” the president wrote. “No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be. Free access with NO BORDER.”

In an attempt to distance his party from Trump, Poilievre pushed back against the president on X.

“Canada will always be proud, sovereign and independent and we will NEVER be the 51st state,” Poilievre said. “Today Canadians can vote for change so we can strengthen our country, stand on our own two feet and stand up to America from a position of strength.”

Poilievre not only lost the election for prime minister, he also lost his own seat in parliament that he has held since 2004 to Liberal Party candidate Bruce Fanjoy.

While Carney made opposition to Trump the defining issue of his campaign, his blustery rhetoric will likely ultimately fail to amount to any real policy wins. The Canadian economy is reliant on access to the American market, putting Trump and the United States in a strong negotiating position on any tariffs or trade discussions.

Meanwhile, Canadian voters will find themselves facing the same crises they faced before the election – spiraling cost of living, mass migration driving costs even higher and wreaking havoc on Canadian society, and far-left social policies waging war on people of faith and the nuclear family.

Canada holds elections for prime minister every four years, but elections can be called earlier due to a vote of no confidence or other parliamentary reasons.

Well Canadians had an opportunity to vote for something far better than a continuation of the failed socialist policies of the Trudeau administration. That is if they really wanted any change of direction from the downward path, they’ve been on for the last several years. They instead chose to vote for more of the same. So sadly, the Canadian people will have to now live with the consequences of their actions.

One can only assume that the majority of Canadians that voted yesterday for a continuation of the same disastrous policies they’ve lived under for the last several years, have not yet experienced enough pain and suffering to motivate them to select an alternate course. They just may have thrown away their last and final chance at ever getting control back of their own government, as I’m sure the Liberal Party will work quickly to tighten the leash around the necks of the people. Best of luck to the Canadian people as they continue on their path to serfdom.

I see the benefits to both the U.S. and Canada if Canada became part of the U.S. BUT – I fear that if Canada became the 51st state, it would be a blue state, and vote Democrat. THAT WE DO NOT NEED!

I am a Trump supporter but sometimes he can say the dumbest things. Did he really think that threatening Canada with becoming the US 51st state was going to help convince them to vote conservative? Anybody could see where this was going.
Even if they had wanted to join the US, I would not want them. They have far too many problems due to their liberal embrace of Islam. What Islam has done to Canada is a disgrace.

Very strange. They got rid of one liberal nut case they hated and was destroying the country…only to elect ANOTHER liberal nut case to do the same thing? Something’s not right and I am not surprised what it is…

Canadians just dug their own graves into more price hikes higher taxes and less infrastructure because what Carney promised is not sustainable. Time will bear that out.

Election fraud? Stupid voters? Both? Seems the majority of Canadian voters are just as stupid as the majority of voters in NY and CA. They deserve what they voted for.

Canadians must enjoy being serfs! I guess all the “free medical care”, oppressive, dictatorial government, lack of free speech rights and terminal TDS must have swayed them. (sarc) They will regret turning their back on America and President Trump as they sink further into the EU Muslim quagmire.Maybe we need a northern border wall to keep all the CCP drugs and illegal invaders out.

I take issue with the author’s use of the word “liberal” for the new Canadian PM. He is a tried and true Socialist, as is the ideology of a majority of Canadians. I don’t think the common sense informed Canadians really had a choice. Their so called conservative candidate is not like our definition of “conservative”. Socialism has been accepted in Canada for longer than it has here. We were given another chance but the climb is a tough one for the Trump administration.

Well, the Liberal Party in Canada put them where they are today, including with immigration and a real loss of freedoms and rights. Soooooo, let’s keep them in power??
It’s reminiscent of liberal places (CA) in America. The people are miserable and have been complaining for years, yet they vote for the same type of “leadership.” Canada is following the lead of the UK, the difference is that the UK is not in America’s back yard.

It’s hard to fathom that Canadians haven’t endured enough struggle, pain, and punishment, and don’t want a broader and wider choice of voices for all walks of the Canadian political spectrum. This looks like the colors of the Democrat/Republican MINDSET! LOL. I wish everyone in Canada good Luck and think things through next time as you may be in for a long and painful 4 years ahead.

Here is the utter stupidity in all of this…(and not just the glue sniffing troll)

Leftist losers are so eager to attack Trump, they believe he’s to blame for Canadian socialist idiots voting like Canadian socialist idiots.

Canada’s Liberal Party had won three terms in a row before Monday’s election.

Since 1993, the Liberal Party has only been out of power for the nine years between 2006 and 2015.

This is a nation led by froggy wannabe Euro socialist Quebecians that has been voting for their own destruction for 32 years,

…and after that 32-year run, all of a sudden, Canada’s default position of voting for the Liberal Party victory is blamed on President Trump?

Please.  Move to froggy Quebec if you want socialism

The Canadians voted “no confidence” in Trudeau, then turned around and voted for a “Trudeau”; same policies, same source of “no confidence”, what does that say about the Canadian People??

How secure are Canadian elections. Is this another import migrant voters, keep the liberal party alive situation. I’m not sure conservative Canadians stand a chance with the number of Muslim migrants Trudeau welcomed into the country.

I’m sure voting in Canada is the same as here. If the numbers are close enough the left has plenty of ways to push it over in their favor.

The Pro-American Conservative Party in Canada had a 20% lead over the Anti-American Liberals, prior to Donald Trump’s Verbal Onslaught against the Canadian People. Although I am a Donald Trump Supporter, he is making far too many major mistakes in the areas of both American Foreign Policy and the Economy (Tariffs).

Trump is the reason that Canadians went to the polls & voted in this election. That is very evident & I cannot believe that some Americans are posting comments about a rigged election already. The US 2020 election was called a fair election by AG Bill Barr & a lot of people including Trump still call this a rigged election.

Let’s put the blame where it belongs. Poilievre would have won easily if Trump hadn’t initiated the tariff wars and started yapping about Canada becoming the 51st state.
