Trump Push to Restrain Birthright Citizenship Gets Ammo From Unlikely Source: Liberal Polling Group

President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 14th Amendment and end birthright citizenship could be stronger after a recent study from the Pew Research Center found 9% of births in the U.S. in 2023 were to illegal migrants. 

The Supreme Court is weighing the legality of Trump’s executive order that looks to end birthright citizenship, which the administration argues “rewards illegal immigration.” 

Trump imposed the order last year as a means to deter pregnant tourists from having their babies in the United States and to stop illegal migrants from using the method as a way to remain in the country. 

The administration is urging the Supreme Court to rule that children of temporary visitors and illegal migrants should not be deemed citizens at birth. 

The president has also argued that the amendment was intended to confer citizenship on the children and babies of slaves after the Civil War, but courts have since ruled that it also pertains to children of immigrants.

The Supreme Court’s ruling would take effect only on future births and would not therefore impact the citizenship of children who were already born in the United States to illegal migrants.

Illegal Immigration Birthrate

A Pew Research Center study last month found that 320,000 babies were born to illegal migrant mothers in 2023, which amounts to roughly 9% of all 3.6 million babies born in the U.S. that year.

A closer look found that roughly 245,000 of those babies had fathers who were also not citizens or lawful permanent residents. 

The trends in births to illegal migrants also followed the growth and decline of the illegal migrant population, with more children born in the U.S. to illegal migrants during the Biden administration than in other administrations.

The study also found that if the president’s executive order was in effect today, it would impact 5.1 million Americans who were born in the U.S. to illegal migrant mothers from 2006 to 2023, and 4.4 million had illegal migrant fathers. 

The executive order would also impact mothers who were granted temporary legal status and gave birth to children while they were legally in the United States but were not actual citizens. 

These include mothers, referred to as “birth tourists,” who typically give birth to their children in the U.S. in order to give them citizenship. The study found that in 2023 there were about 9,000 children born to “birth tourists.”

Push to End Birthright Citizenship Supported by Other Countries

Although the United States established birthright citizenship in 1868, only 32 other countries have passed similar citizenship laws, according to a recent Pew Research Center study.

In most countries, citizenship is determined by the citizenship of the parents, meaning that most of the countries in the study confer citizenship to children born in the country if one or both parents are citizens of that country.

The study found that only 52 countries allow a child to gain citizenship simply by being born there, while another seven require parents to apply for their children to be declared citizens.

The study also found that 17 of those 59 countries only grant citizenship to children born in the country and whose parents are also living in the country legally.

Another group of 26 countries requires people to have at least two generations of in-country birth for birthright citizenship, meaning at least one of their parents must have also been born in that country to achieve that status.

Trump is not trying to overturn the 14th Amendment, he’s merely attempting to apply it in the manner in which it was intended when it was ratified.

It doesn’t matter what I say, what Misty says, what Trump says, what the Supreme Court says. What did the Writers and Signers of the 14th Amendment say? They said it was ONLY to legalized the children of slaves born in the United States.

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” Illegals and tourists are not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Previous Supreme courts have never held them to be citizens.

There you go. No other country allows this ridiculous birthright but for the USA. People from all over the world come here via airplane mind you give birth and leave. They are not Americans by any means. It’s a form of forming an army to overthrow America. With Obama and Biden we learned how serious they are about replacing the true citizens with people from all over the world. They are eager to support those being born here and leave than the children born of true citizens in this country. They are poisoning them with their trans and mutilating their bodies so they can’t reproduce and have the pooped out babies take over the country. CA created special clinics and hospitals for the Mexican mothers to have their babies here decades ago, only to return to Mexico right after. The citizen taxpayers paid for all that with their taxes. They support the criminal element that came here Under Obama and Biden but want ICE agents killed, including their family members. They sat on their hands when President Trump asked whom should the govt support the citizens of this country or the illegals. They have held this country in their grasp by refusing to fund DHS because ICE falls under that dept. They don’t care if TSA agents get paid. The people that keep criminals and evil doers off airplanes. They protect our borders from drug cartels and coyotes bringing in the illegals. They deport these criminals but the democrats are supporting them to the tune of millions of dollars which Soros is providing. They are on their way to replace the current population with a world population and birthright works in their favor. I hope the SC makes the right decision and reads and or interprets the 14th amendment with what the Congress intended it to mean. The children of the slaves became citizen. Not every person in the world that had money to fly here and give birth to a US citizen. Just like the illegals here they have no right to be here and all should be deported. I even think those here legally, as a permanent resident, should have to wait 5 years after birth, before these children would be citizens. Sets an incentive to come here legally and assimilate and to become a citizen and be proud to become a citizen. A stroke of a pen never does that.

If the Supreme Court rules in favor of retaining US birthright citizenship, there should be a Special Nationwide Poll of registered American voters to see if the American electorate supports the canceling of the 14th amendment which has long since served its original purpose of securing US citizenship for the children of America’s slave population.
Trying to get the 14th amendment altered via the US Congress is a non-starter as the Democrats in Congress will strongly oppose ANYTHING that Pres. Trump supports… and that includes the current war with Iran. .

This has already been mentioned, but it gets under my skin so much I’m compelled to repeat it – Trump is NOT attempting to overturn the 14th Amendment. That is a gross and egregious misrepresentation of what’s happening here. You should really edit your article and fix that.

The 14 th amendment does NOT grant citizenship simply as a result of being born in the US. The practice of such is and has been wrong and is not what was intended by the 14 th amendment. One has to be here legally before a child born to them can be granted citizenship.

Legally obtained citizenship parents are the only ones qualified to apply. The fourteenth amendment does not apply to any one of the illegal class. Our politicians are debating this, as many want cheap labor, a form of slavery. Like the 14th, was meant to address, for people who were brought to our country as slaves.

The Constitutional 14th Amendment does not require overturning to correct this misuse of its inttentions. It needs to be succinctinly interpreted and published in bold, capital letters for all to see with a postscript added that judicial activists who attempt to reinterpret it will be immediately discharged from their posts and reassigned to evaluate the opinions of penguins in the Antacrtic.

It’s outrageous that ANY of the births that occurred and fit the profile for disqualification for citizenship would not extend to ALL such births! If it’s decided that such births are illegal now, they were illegal when they occurred! Why should there be a statute of limitations on a violation of the Constitution? The entire 4.4 million should be disqualified!

aliensshall be excluded from admission into the United States, in accordance with the existing acts regulating immigration, other than those concerning Chinese laborers: All idiots, insane persons, paupers or personslikely to become a public charge, persons suffering from a loathsome or a dangerous contagious disease, persons who have been convicted of a felony or other infamous crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, polygamists, and also any person whose ticket or passage is paid for with the money of another or who is assisted by others to come . . . .SEC. 3. That it shall be deemed a violation of said act . . . to assist or encourage the importation or migration of any 
alienby promise of employment through advertisements printed and published in any foreign country . . . .

Congress should deal with this issue. It is not something for an executive order. Regarding birth tourism, perhaps the answer should revolve around whether a child is raised and educated in America. If a child of a non-citizen only spends a couple of his growing years here, he certainly does not understand our system well enough to vote. he should receive the same training as someone wishing to be naturalized.

Of the babies born to illegals and birthright tourists, it should be retroactive IF either parent used ANY government benefits of any kind. If they paved their way financially, then let the child keep the citizenship, but if not, deport them all.

How many current Americans might well lose their citizenship because of this? Let say that you were the grandchild of two French Canadians and born here in 1951 to parents one a Canadian the other born to the two French Canadiens here in the USA in 1911. Are you to be considered an American citizen and for that matter your mother who was born here in 1911be considered an American citizen? These questions need to be answered following thorough research!!! Don’t get me wrong because in theory I agree with President Trump.

Why should the people of the USA allow and be responsible for the welfare any and everyone who feels the need to come to our country? I will propose that 99% of individuals permitted to safely cross our borders, without regulation during the Biden administration did not do so in order to assimilate legally into the cultural fabric of our great nation. They only came for the “free-stuff” which was well-advertised by Biden himself and the democrat party as a whole. Well, all 50 states have changed the meaning of the 2nd Amendment with no trouble! So simply change the language of the 14th to eliminate Birth Right citizenship to the offspring of Illegals. We don’t “need” a Constitutional Amendment! The 2nd Amendment shows that with the tens of thousands of “Gun Laws” by the States. Also we really do need to make it a Felony to be in the U.S. Illegally!
