AMAC Magazine Exclusive – By Lillian Ferrell & Shane Harris

In February of this year, the Trump administration launched TrumpRx.gov, a visionary online platform for Americans to purchase prescription medications at steeply discounted rates. Six months in, the savings have been extraordinary, with new drugs being added at a rapid clip.

Put simply, TrumpRx allows consumers to buy medications directly from pharmaceutical companies rather than going through their insurance. While Americans have historically paid more than other developed nations for the same drugs, TrumpRx aims to close that gap by eliminating middlemen who drive up prices.

Specifically, TrumpRx works by the Trump administration reaching an agreement with pharmaceutical manufacturers to offer drugs at the “most-favored-nation” (MFN) price. The MFN price is calculated using the lowest price paid in a nation that is part of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with a per-capita GDP of at least 60 percent of the US per capita GDP.

As of early June, prescription drug prices were down 2.4 percent since the launch of TrumpRx, including a 0.9 percent reduction in May alone. Just two weeks after TrumpRx’s launch, the site had attracted 12 million visitors and generated an estimated $500 million in consumer savings. According to the Council of Economic Advisers, the initiative could generate approximately $600 billion in savings over the next decade alone.

TrumpRx includes both brand-name and generic drugs, with more than 600 generics listed. Discounts range from 33 to 93 percent off list prices, depending on the medication. In some cases, TrumpRx pricing is lower than comparable international prices, including those in Canada.

Administration officials have highlighted major discounts across widely used drug categories, including GLP-1 weight-loss medications, diabetes treatments, inhalers, HIV therapies, fertility drugs, and more.

Examples include:

  • Wegovy: approximately $149/month, down from $1,349
  • Ozempic: approximately $199/month, down from $1,028
  • Gonal-F (450 IU pen): $252, down from $1,449

TrumpRx is also consistently adding new medications to serve more Americans. In June, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced an expansion of the platform with 160 additional drug listings. This brought the total to roughly 750 medications.

Following the expansion, President Trump posted on Truth Social that TrumpRx would provide “clear, transparent, and DISCOUNTED offerings for FOUR OUT OF FIVE of every prescription filled by Americans.”

One discount at a time, President Trump is rewriting the rules of prescription drug pricing—and fulfilling a major promise to the American people. While critics insisted that TrumpRx would flop and would not deliver real price relief, the results speak for themselves.

By bringing greater transparency and competition to the prescription drug marketplace, TrumpRx is beginning to fix a long-broken system and help Americans get the medications they need at an affordable rate.
