President Trump’s Approval Rating Roars Back as Oil Prices Plummet

A new poll shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating soaring as oil prices plummet amid news of a ceasefire with Iran.

A survey of 1,000 likely midterm voters fielded June 17-23 by the polling firm McLaughlin & Associates found that 50 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s job performance, while 46 percent disapproved. A majority who said they were familiar with the terms of Trump’s announced ceasefire deal with Iran – 51 percent – also said they approved of the agreement.

Importantly, key elements of Trump’s ceasefire received broad bipartisan support. 76 percent of respondents approve of requiring that Iran “never produce a nuclear weapon, backed by American and international inspections to verify compliance” – the backbone of the agreement. Only 14 percent disapproved of that provision.

75 percent of respondents also said they approve of the ceasefire’s terms requiring Iran to stop funding international terrorism directed at Israel and other nations. Again, support cut across party lines.

However, McLaughlin also found that support for the ceasefire deal was strongly correlated with where respondents got their news from. Voters who rely primarily on right-of-center media supported the deal 72 percent to 17 percent, while voters who rely on left-of-center media opposed it 54 percent to 35 percent. Those who do not regularly watch cable news support it 42 percent to 36 percent.

Trump’s approval rating surge is also undoubtedly linked to falling oil prices as the market sees optimism for the end of hostilities in Iran and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices dropped to just under $70 a barrel by 6 a.m. Friday, June 26, a day after the BBC reported that oil had reached the lowest level since before the Iran conflict. Oil topped out at $112 a barrel on April 7 and was $82 a barrel as recently as June 2.

Gas prices are falling as well. The average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.90 as of Friday morning, down from $4.49 and closer to what it was a year ago at $3.22.

There are still a few hurdles ahead to bring the Iran conflict to a conclusion and fully restore the global oil supply chain. While some ships are now making their way through the Strait of Hormuz, shipping companies say the waterway is far from safe and threats remain. Additionally, Iranian leaders have repeatedly threatened to walk away from negotiations, only for Trump to bring them back to the table with threats of renewed military strikes.

But what the McLaughlin poll reveals is that while Trump’s approval rating is closely tied to his ability to land a ceasefire deal that keeps Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon – as well as fuel prices – Americans are generally trusting of the president’s leadership. The next few weeks will be a critical test for that delicate arrangement.

Like him or not DJT is still a lot better than a Biden, Obama, or any Democratic candidate. You see what’s happening now in New York. We cannot let the socialist ideals run our nation. It’s mid-term time, and also our nations 250th Birthday. It’s going to be a critical time. Let’s celebrate this 4th with so much noise and vitality just to show how much patriotic energy we got to silence the left.

You people are so negative in your comments. In my opinion, I believe that DJT is doing an outstanding job along with his behind the scenes predecessors and our military are trying to make our country safe, catch crooks abusing the system. Christian values, common sense and MAGA. Happy 250th Birthday America ???????? we can all celebrate OUR FREEDOM of Independence.
Better than the last few presidents Demo’s that destroyed the core of our country. They gave your money away to other countries, drained our oil reserves, promoted LGBT, antifa and hatred has made a mess of family core values, by promoting their (DemoRats) destruction on OUR COUNTY. There minds have been warped. All the while they DemoRats were lining their own pockets.
May God Bless OUR Country!!!
If my people who are called by My name shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sins, and heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14

What nobody ever mentions is that in today’s dollars, gas prices under Obama were $6.94 a gallon. That’s quite a bit higher than the highest price over the last few months.

It’s so sad when Americans grade a presidents popularity on their personal comfort. Yes, times are tough but when we see all the positive changes that have been made in the U.S. and even the world, our sacrifice is worth it. Remember the tremendous sacrifices American patriots had to make during WWII. Was it worth it? Are you glad you don’t speak Japanese or German? Think about it. Hopefully one day the Iranian people will enjoy the freedom that we still have (for now) in the U.S..

You don’t have to be of super intelligence to see where America is under DJT and where it is headed under communists. Communism failed everywhere it entered, misery and squalor were the results , if the voter refuses to see the fact, he will end up living in the middle ages except for weapons and telecommunications Good bye diversity, equality and racial justice, when the fist comes down, there will not be one peep of protest tolerated and the cannons used will not be shooting water. When I see all those unhinged young women of color I am thinking of Africa and it’s endless civil wars, there still is America to the rescue, with that gone, there will be nothing. Who will think and innovate with white supremacist gone.

I’m not sure any poll can be believed, there are too many variables. Also, our beliefs on any topic are shaped by what news outlet we watch or read.

I lived in the Middle East for 10 years. I understand that there is a spectrum of beliefs under the umbrella of Islam. The Iranian regime is very radical. The only thing the Iranian regime will ever understand is military action and power. The Iranian regime live by a radical interpretation of the Quran. “It is ok and good to lie, cheat, steal and kill the infidel.” An infidel is anyone that does not live by their radicalized version of Islam. Hence, their propensity to break any promises made to the U.S.
Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone will ever be able to successfully create a regime change without boots on the ground or practically destroying the entire nation through air strikes. My experience in the Middle East has taught me that moderate Muslims will almost always acquiesce to the radical Islamists. I don’t have much faith in the general population of Iran to rise up and topple the present radical regime.

My approval of President Trump is not hinged on what he does or doesn’t do that effects my budget. I voted for him three times. If I could, I would vote for him again. He is the leader we need. I don’t think he cares about approval, and seems to look to doing the next right thing for our country. A leader with morals and back bone like that will get more good done for us than we are used to dreaming was possible.

While the IDEA behind the MOU is laudable, the implementation will be a disaster.
It is well known that adherents of Islam are admonished to LIE to any “non-believer” as well as to “subjugate them”.
This makes it clear that the Iranians, and specifically the IRGC, have NO INTENTION of honoring any kind of agreement.

I firmly believe there is no dealing with this country. Just thankful that President Trump stopped their nuclear ambition. I also believe Iran blackmailed other administrations, and these weaker leaders allowed them to, as they did not want to do the things necessary to rid the US and Israel, along with other allies, of this nuclear threat.

I’ll just pay at the pump, glad for President Trump’s bravery.

Look closely at the deal my friends. Iran gains far more than the US. Dropping sanctions and allowing Iran to sell it’s oil is giving them billions of dollars to do whatever they want to. All they gave were a bunch of promises they have no intention of keeping. Our previous dealings with this country will bear witness to that. Negotiating team caved because of gas price possibly affecting midterm outcome.

Quit playing Iran’s game to withdraw from the peace talks. Bomb the living daylights out of their rocket and drone sites. Clear the straight of mines and let free shipping happen again. Iran is stil holding all the cards. Gas prices are down but in the dems states they are still high. Some stations are really high. I recently was on the East coast and noticed the prices are lower than here in Colorado. The democrats are hell bent on destroying this country. The communists in the Democrat party are running everything. Just look how many are running for office and all are anti Israel pro Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah et al. Vote carefully. A vote against Trump is a vote for the communists.

Trump has done more for this country than the previous four presidents combined. I’ve despised the democrat party since I came home from Vietnam in 1967. Thanks to Lyndon Johnson and the democrats we ended up in a war started to make Johnson and his cronies rich.

President Trump is the best president I have seen, he has done more for this country than all the presidents combined since President Reagan! It is a shame he just doesn’t destroy Iran! Do not give them any help to rebuild, they do not deserve the help! He needs to tell China to get out of our country take the land back for them stealing information from our country and the interference in our elections and the CCP getting in our country, etc! It is time to take complete control of our country and stop all enemies foreign and domestic to include the Democratic Party who allowed this to happen!

Donald Trump is the hardest working president in my life time of 81 years. It would make me so happy IF he could get another term in 2028 but that is not going to happen. The rise of Communism in this country is extremely troubling and younger people who are not will educated in the history of this country nor in world history have no idea what they are asking for. I just pray that there are enough who do know these things and will run to the polls to make the against Communism heard. We simply cannot let it invade our United States!!!

I do not think that Trump has a very good understand of the business relationship between price of oil and price of gas at the pump. The information that I read says that the USA does not have enough refineries to produce all of the diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel that we use every day. Trump said yesterday he expects $2.25 gas & where did he pull that number from. Also, how long will it take the oil on ships in Hormuz to reach refineries and hit the markets? And some news said that Iran hit one of the oil barges this weekend & so what does Trump consider a ceasefire?

The gas prices will never get back to where they were before all this stuff started, because the oil companies jack the gas way up then they lower it about .50-.75 cents and people think they are getting a deal, but before this stuff with Iran, the gas was as low as 2.79 a gallon, but they will never let it get there again.

I thought this was a conservative American patriot web site. The title of your article implies that his rating is in the tank, and now because of oil prices it’s better. Polling is not to be taken seriously, who conducts the polls?? Such an ingenuous article. Anyone who isn’t mentally ill knows he has the full support of every American patriot who loves this country and wants nothing more than it to become great again.

IMHO Polls are useless! Too many variables and statistical anomolies. A sampling of thousand or so people cannot reflect the true mood and attitude of an entire country. That being said, it does illustrate how pernicious and divisive the Leftist DemoKKKRAT Party and their Leftist Enemy Media lapdogs are in eroding the American Spirit. Fortunately, most people are not on the Left but support Presisent Trump, despite what some polls might purport to say. America 250 and God Bless America!!

Thank you President Trump but it’s Not happening in Washington State. Gas is still $5.49/ gal. There’s another gas tax on top of all the other gas taxes set to start on July 1. The former democrat governor wanted everyone to remember his Climate initiatives at the pump. The democrats in Olympia want everyone to blame President Trump for everything including the high prices so they can keep getting elected. Sadly, it’s working.

I voted for this! Approved of everything he’s done except for the last few interactions with Netanyahu. Becoming an enemy to Israel is a very bad idea, especially since the Bible warns about this many times…God said, “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you..”. Don’t make the mistake of becoming an enemy to the Jewish people like the Democrats are so fond of doing!

The so-called deal with Iran is an absolute joke. Any deal with these terrorist nutjobs is a farce because they cannot be trusted. Trump has been a fool thinking they can. They will NEVER stop their nuclear weapons ambitions. As soon as Trump is out of office, they will start redevelopment. Now they can’t even agree on what they supposedly agreed to!! It’s a complete farce!!! If we were going to attack Iran, it should have been done with the intent of taking out this regime. But Trump is doing nothing to finish them off. And if he was going to attack Iran, it should have been done after the midterms. As things stand, it appears the GOP is going to lose the House in November. Huge mistake!!!
