Calls-to-Action

Tell the US Senate to Support the Talking Filibuster on the SAVE America Act

The SAVE America Act is a vital election integrity bill that would ensure that people who register to vote are US citizens, require photo voter ID to vote in a federal election, and require states to clean their voter rolls of noncitizens who may be registered. More than 80 percent of Americans support the bill and the Senate is in a unique position to secure federal elections for generations. South Dakota – Tell Senator Thune Not to Doom the SAVE America Act to Failure!

If Senator Thune files a motion using a procedure known as cloture, without making the Democrats have a talking filibuster, the SAVE America Act (H.R. 7296) will effectively be killed. We do not want a cloture vote – Sen Thune must demand a talking filibuster, where Senators must actually speak. Senator Thune can bring the SAVE America Act to the floor of the Senate on a simple majority vote and then he can lead the GOP-controlled Senate to make Democrats talk.  That is the filibuster.  At the end of the filibuster, the SAVE America Act can be passed by a simple majority of 51 votes. If you live in South Dakota, contact Senator Thune immediately and tell him to bring the SAVE America Act to the floor of the Senate for a talking filibuster!

Legislation and Policy Support

H.R. 5490 – Dismantle Foreign Scam Syndicates Act

Foreign-based scam operations are increasingly targeting seniors, many of whom live on fixed incomes and have spent decades saving responsibly for retirement. These criminal enterprises exploit modern technology, weak international enforcement, and vulnerable populations to steal billions of dollars from hardworking Americans each year. This legislation strengthens enforcement against overseas fraud rings, improves coordination among federal agencies, and ensures that bad actors face meaningful consequences. H.R. 2102– Major Richard Star Act

At present, only veterans who have a disability rating above 50 percent and have completed more than 20 years of service can receive both their full Department of Defense retirement pay and their full Department of Veterans Affairs disability compensation. This excludes more than 50,000 combat-injured military retirees from receiving their complete earned benefits. This legislation guarantees that veterans will receive full disability benefits regardless of their length of service. Click here to read AMAC Action’s letter of support.

Person of the Week: Johnny Appleseed

John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, is a beloved figure in early American history who inspired many stories and songs. Born on September 26, 1774, in Leominster, Massachusetts, Chapman left home as a young man and headed west, eventually planting apple orchards across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and beyond. While stories often depict him as a wandering figure randomly scattering seeds, the real man was a thoughtful gardener who established carefully tended apple nurseries and sold or gave young trees to settlers moving into the frontier.

Unlike the whimsical images often associated with his nickname, John Chapman’s work was rooted in the practical needs of frontier life: apple trees were valuable to settlers for many reasons, especially because apples could be used to make hard cider—a stable and drinkable beverage at a time when clean water was not always available. Beginning around 1800 in western Pennsylvania, Chapman gathered seeds from cider presses, headed westward, and planted seeds in strategic locations ahead of expanding settlements. This helped pioneers to establish productive orchards and secure land claims. The nurseries he established often included protective fencing, and he would return periodically to tend the trees and sell or trade them.

Chapman was known for his gentle nature, deep religious commitment, and eccentric attire—settlers described him as wearing a coffee sack for clothing, a tin can as a hat, and often traveling barefoot. Despite his humble appearance, he became known for his kindness toward people and animals. As he traveled the frontier, Chapman provided pioneers with apple seedlings, offered practical advice, shared news and Scripture, and was widely regarded as a kind, trustworthy presence in isolated communities.

In his later years John Chapman settled near Fort Wayne, Indiana. He died in 1845 at the age of 70 after a bout of pneumonia. Though his life has become the stuff of legend and is often embellished in children’s books and popular culture, the fact remains that Johnny Appleseed was a real man who helped spread apple trees across the growing United States and embodied a spirit of generosity, simplicity, and conservation. His legacy lives on in the orchards he helped plant and the stories that celebrate a uniquely American character.

Quote of the Week

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children’s children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.”

— Ronald Reagan
