Savory pull-apart bread is the perfect accompaniment to your favorite stew recipes!

Quick-n-easy!

This recipe calls for two loaves of frozen bread dough that is thawed. Using frozen and defrosted dough allows the recipe to come together quickly and easily.

Hint: Frozen bread dough is regular dough that has undergone freezing and frozen storage prior to proofing and baking. If you don’t have time to make your own dough, frozen bread dough is an easy substitute. However, if you prefer to use your own homemade dough, be our guest!

Recipe for Savory pull-apart bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 loaves (about 2 lbs.) frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1 ¼ cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter (one stick), melted*

*Plus extra butter for serving if desired.  

Directions:

Slice each loaf in half (the long way) to create 4 loaves. Then, slice each half loaf into 1” thick round pieces (the short way). On a large plate combine Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and salt. Dip bread rounds into melted butter, then roll them in the cheese mixture. Repeat until done. Place the buttered cheese rounds onto a greased bundt pan or large deep dish pie plate. Repeat until done. Cover the bread dough with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise for 2 ½ hours. Then, uncover the dough and bake it in a preheated oven set to 375-degrees F. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until bread is lightly golden and baked through. Let bread cool slightly and invert it onto a serving platter. If desired, serve warm with extra melted butter and Parmesan cheese.

Baking tips:

Tip one: Note that bread is sensitive to baking and oven temperatures may vary. Therefore, it is essential to keep an eye on the bread as it bakes to avoid overbaking or burning.

Tip two: If your pie plate or bundt pan is small, you may use two instead. Should you seek smaller portions instead, halve the recipe by using one loaf of bread dough rather than two (and cut other ingredients in half). Be sure to slightly adjust the baking time.

A word about Parmesan cheese…

Parmesan cheese is a classic topping for pasta. It gets its name from the Italian word “parmigiano,” meaning “from Parma,” Italy, referring to where it is produced. Parmesan is an easy to grate hard, dry cheese that is both salty and nutty at the same time. Parmesan cheese is packed with immense flavor! Since it tastes so good, people mistakenly assume it’s got high-fat content. But no! We are happy to report that Parmesan cheese is a somewhat low-fat cheese. Per bon appétit, it is made with skimmed cow’s milk. Prevent Cancer Foundation lists some of the healthiest cheeses that can be enjoyed with meals. Parmesan cheese made the list due to its vitamin A content. However, Parmesan cheese also has sodium, so perhaps it’s best to consider portion control when it comes to consuming this tasty cheese.
