Democrats seem determined to undermine homeland security – now defunding DHS, which includes a wide swath of federal law enforcement. The potential for national disruption is high. Democrats target ICE enforcement of administrative warrants and deportation orders, but most Americans want rule of law.
In a credible February poll, 73 percent of Americans think entering the US illegally is “breaking the law,” 61 percent support “deporting” illegal aliens – 95 percent of Republicans, 64 percent of swing voters – and 58 percent reject Democrat calls to “defund ICE,” with 54 percent expressly supporting ICE.
In states like Maine, a Democrat-dominated “sanctuary” state, citizens support ICE, 84 percent in one poll supporting ICE across the state. Yet Democrats persist.
Democrats are now blocking all DHS funding – including for ICE, Customs and Border Patrol, Transportation Security Administration, US Secret Service, US Coast Guard, FEMA, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, National Infrastructure Protection Center, National Infrastructure Advisory Council – which advises the president on national cybersecurity threats.
While “essential personnel” continue to work unpaid, Democrats have adopted a lose-lose posture. They seem content to allow threats to proliferate as and if manning falls, to attack federal law enforcement – ICE – which has public support.
As of Monday, February 16, the Associated Press is reporting neither congressional Democrats nor the White House see “signs of compromise … in their battle” over ICE, which has now triggered another indefinite “partial government shutdown.”
“Democrats are demanding changes to how immigration operations are conducted,” while Republicans support traditional enforcement of longstanding immigration laws, and “both sides appear dug into their positions.”
With Democrats attacking ICE, 6000 agents seeking to root out 19 million foreigners illegally in the US – many with felony records – stakes are high.
Stakes are made higher by Democrat denial of funds for other vital agencies, TSA, FEMA, USCG, Secret Service, CBP and those battling cyberthreats. If any harm comes to Americans from this denial, Democrats will own those tragedies.
In short, the dispute has Democrats seeking policies that allow the public to “dox” or identify agents, block administrative warrants, disrupt operations, trail individual agents, and harass agents following established constitutional process.
Said White House Border Czar Tom Homan, “These men and women have to protect themselves.” Perhaps the larger issue is the protection that all Americans deserve, including protection by all the listed agencies and protection day-to-day from millions of illegal aliens still free and committing crimes across the US.
For all the brouhaha by protestors in Minnesota, Maine and elsewhere – paid and unpaid, peaceful and violent – the big issue is overwhelming interest by Americans in protecting the border and deporting illegal aliens, admitted by the millions under Biden and in need of swift removal. Democrats just do not get it. Viewed through the lens of average Americans, Democrats – as they did on Title IX – misgauge what people want. Most Americans want illegal aliens to be deported, civilly but swiftly, their impact unsustainable. Most want rule of law.

RBC, it just comes down to this — Since President Trump is not a “party favorite” for either party in power, anything on the table will be used for his embarrassment at this time. President was in the same boat, but he was snookered by his party to make decisions that the party wanted. President Trump is doing the best as he can for the nation, but the Party elites are doing their best to keep opposing him. I have thought that the TSA could dial it back a bit, but that is because I have a small device for a physical issue, and wear a depends when traveling by air, so I always get a pat down. For some reason they never ask what I have that might have been detected by their machine, and I would gladly tell them. Safety of our nation, and it’s people come first, so I let them do their checks. Similarly, ICE and other departments should be allowed to do their checks without harassment. When are Democrat politicians going to stop pandering to the extreme, and minority parts of their party? I know they aren’t as stupid as they want us to believe, so what they are doing is with express purpose. However, their blind spot is that they can’t see how awful it is that they are risking our safety, and we know that the Democrats are to blame.
I think the majority of the people are sick and tired of the rhetoric that Democrats keep spreading. They want our nation to be safe. They want Law and Order. They want ICE to do their job and know that we are not just dealing with Hispanic people, but also from around the world which includes terrorists who snuck across the border when things were overwhelming for the Border Patrol. As a folklorist (PhD) I’ve always been fascinated by the motivation of people toward beliefs. Religion being my original interest. It is always fascinating, but never more mysterious than civilizations self destructing, in terms of freedom and independence. The demonicrats are battling against their own interests to the point of destroying their own organization. The further downhill they go, the more determined they become to amplify their own destruction.
Since the democrats and congress cannot see their way to provide for the funding or our country’s protection, they need to be defunded. Everything set aside for congress should be cancelled, the office allowances, over a million each, for senators even higher, all their protection, the capitol police force, and all their little benefits, travel, etc etc. They have forsaken their oaths of office and proven themselves unworthy of public support. They should be expelled and replaced.

Perhaps now is the time for Pres. Trump to recognize that the creation of DHS after 9/11 was the wrong answer to the “we have to do SOMETHING” response to that disastrous “surprise” attack [of which there were plenty of indicators of a major terrorist plot, but no one was willing/authorized/able to respond to a “foreign” threat on US soil]. No offense to Sec’y Noem, who is doing as good a job as anyone could, but DHS is a bureaucratic nightmare that should not have been created. We need FEWER Cabinet-level Departments focusing on their Constitutional [Article II Section 8] responsibilities and authorities, not more Departments. The law enforcement aspect of border security should devolve back to the Dept of the Interior; with the major aspects of border defense going back to the US Army & Dept of War — invasion is a military problem, whether invasion by battalions of uniformed troops, miniaturized crewless aircraft [“drones”], transnational insurgent/terror/smuggling cartels, or radicalized “civilian refugees.” Customs enforcement should return to the Dept of the Treasury. Illegal immigration should be the responsibility of the FBI and the US Marshall’s Service, which belong back under the Dept. of Justice.
Simple—Secret Service should walk off the job of protecting Democrats who refuse to pay them!! Problem solved!!

I do not think that all Democrats want to get rid of ICE. They just want ICE to go after the bad criminals that Trump has identified & quit making so many mistakes by arresting innocent citizens & five officers slamming them to ground & pepper spraying them. The detainment of Liam & sending him to Texas for +10 days is a real black eye to ICE management and control tactics. They should be able to identify criminals vs. innocent citizens. And ICE is the one that tarnished their reputation & not Democrats.
