With all the “he-said-she-said” over President Joe Biden’s failing mind and the “politburo” (their word, not ours) that was making all the executive branch decisions in his stead, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia have been in the news lately. But what if we were actually able to take a giant leap forward in curing the Alzheimer’s scourge that leaves 7 million Americans alive but without the memories of who they are?

What about the 8 million caregivers who spend day and night caring for a loved one who doesn’t remember who they are?

What about the economic impact to our nation that affects all of us? Actual costs and lost productivity are estimated to be in the billions of dollars.

Researchers at the University of Virginia may have discovered the key to Alzheimer’s disease and how it devastates those whom it affects. And their discovery may have implications for even more neurological diseases.

The Daily Signal sits down with professor John Lukens, Ph.D., neuroscience researcher at UVA, to find out what they discovered, how you have been a part of this discovery, and, most importantly, what comes next.

Joe Thomas is The Daily Signal’s Virginia correspondent. He is a 37-year broadcasting veteran with 17 years covering Virginia from the marches to the memorials and everything in between.
