Falling Birth Rates, Rising Stakes: Why Trump Is Right About Babies

America’s strength has always come from its families. But today, a quiet crisis threatens our future: too few Americans are having children. More than just a demographic issue, this is quickly becoming a national emergency. America’s declining fertility rate endangers our economic vitality, social stability, and generational continuity.

President Donald Trump is taking bold action to reverse this trend and revitalize the American family. He has made our falling birth rate a central issue, plainly declaring, “We need more American babies.” The White House Domestic Policy Council is now actively developing concrete strategies to encourage family growth and make it easier for Americans to welcome children into their homes.

U.S. fertility rates are as alarming as they are undeniable. In 2023, the U.S. fertility rate dropped to 1.62 births per woman, far below the replacement rate of 2.1. The last time America met replacement-level fertility was in 2007. Since then, we’ve plunged into a steep demographic freefall.

This decline carries devastating consequences. It leads to a shrinking workforce, skyrocketing healthcare demands, and ballooning entitlement costs, all while an aging population strains national resources. Put simply, without children, a nation forfeits its future.

Globally, many industrialized nations are grappling with similar challenges. Hungary’s government offers tax breaks for large families, debt forgiveness for mothers, and grants for home purchases. Poland funds fertility clinics. South Korea, despite lavish subsidies, still struggles, showing that money alone isn’t enough.

The lesson? There’s no silver bullet – but targeted, sustained action matters. America can learn from these examples while charting our own course.

Democrats favor simply throwing open the border and letting in millions of people to sustain our population. But that strategy is like putting a Band-Aid on a bullet hole, and the Biden years proved that it has its own set of disastrous consequences.

President Trump has discussed certain policy changes to ignite a new era of American family growth. Among these is a one-time $5,000 “baby bonus” for new mothers, intended to alleviate some of the immediate financial burdens associated with childbirth.

A significant component of President Trump’s strategy also involves expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF). In February, he signed an executive order to find policy recommendations to protect IVF access and reduce costs for hopeful parents.

IVF remains controversial, particularly among religious Americans who have legitimate concerns about moral and ethical standards in the industry. But what is undeniable is that Trump believes family formation matters, and that national policy should reflect that.

The administration is also considering reserving 30 percent of Fulbright scholarships for married applicants or those with children, aiming to promote family formation among scholars and to open up more educational opportunities for parents. Other proposals include government-funded programs to educate women on ovulation patterns and reproductive health, as well as symbolic recognitions like a “National Medal of Motherhood” for women raising six or more children.

In Congress, House Republicans recently passed their “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which increases the Child Tax Credit. This reform sends a powerful signal: raising children isn’t just a personal sacrifice, it’s a public good, and it deserves meaningful support.

The Trump administration is also tackling the economic pressures that make raising a family difficult. From lowering housing costs and expanding paid parental leave to championing school choice and restoring tax benefits for married couples, the administration is removing the barriers that discourage Americans from having children. The goal is to build a society that rewards responsibility, values commitment, and empowers families to thrive.

Tax reforms and policy shifts are important steps, but the deeper, more urgent challenge lies in transforming American culture. For too long, society has treated children as a burden rather than a blessing. Popular media glamorizes the child-free lifestyle while mocking traditional families and the joys of parenthood.

The Trump administration understands that winning this battle requires more than legislation – it requires changing hearts and minds. That’s why it is wielding the soft power of public influence to restore the cultural value of family.

And it’s not just talk; the administration is leading by example. Vice President J.D. Vance is often seen with his children by his side, demonstrating that raising a family is not a barrier to leadership; it’s a vital part of it. Elon Musk has appeared at the White House with his young son on his shoulders, and Trump himself often mentions his youngest son, Barron.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, balancing the demands of one of the country’s toughest jobs while caring for her child, who was born during the campaign last year, is also an inspiration for women and men to see parenthood as a strength, not a sacrifice.

President Trump has reshaped the American political landscape. Now he has a chance to reshape the nation’s demographic future. His call for more babies is a policy imperative and a needed culture shift.

Reversing America’s baby bust won’t happen overnight, and it won’t happen without courage. But with the right leadership and right ideas, we can build a country that’s proud to raise the next generation.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. A nation that is not built on thriving families is a nation that won’t last. But a nation that believes in family and invests in the future can achieve anything.

The article is clear to understand: President Trump is not a leftist that only mocks the traditional family.

President Trump upholds the traditional family.

The radical liberals who love abortion, want to turn more children into gay and/or transgender beings is another way they are influencing people to have no or less children. It is shocking how many married couples have dogs instead of kids. President Trump is right to support our citizens to have children. Seems he is nearly always right because he has “common sense” and does not want to see the demise of our country.

The COVID vaccine has attributed to infertility. As well as chemicals in our packaged food and the meds put out by big Pharma for every little ache and pain. And the past 4 years the mutilation of our children, in the name of trans, has made many young couples adverse to starting a family. Abortion at any time of gestation is another reason the birthrate is falling. Then the hatred that has been established since Obama was president are also causing people shrinking back from having children next to infertility. When we add it all up what the dems, with the progressives, have done to this country will take decades to turn around if not a century.

I can assure you that the birth rate among Moos-lims and Illegals is not falling. As a white male that has “white privilege “-whatever the hell that is-we should expel them ALL.

Things have changed in America and other developed countries over the last 60 years or so. Stay at home moms are more rare these days somewhat due it increasingly becoming a need for two incomes to sustain a household. The trend has increased over that time and more young women now want a job or career more than a family so choose not to have children, many even see children more of a burden than a blessing.

While the birth rate among Americans has declined, the population of the country has increased 12 million over the last five years. Today, one out of five people living in the U.S. are not a U.S. citizen and many speak no English.

Immigration is not the answer either. Desirable immigrants taken from other counties reduces the number of better minds and moral traits they need to sustain their own civilization. Just throwing open the borders to any and all has been more than a disaster for America and some countries, mainly third world countries have used the opening to unload their undesirables on us, not to mention criminal organizations using the opening to expand their activities to America.

Subsidizing having babies backfired greatly in the U.S. when welfare programs aimed at helping underprivileged and unwed mothers saw the system corrupted by it’s own guidelines and having more children as a way to getting more benefits and money caused an increase in multi-generations of welfare recipients rather than educated, productive citizens.

Want more babies? Get kids out of government schools where perversion is normalized and kids are told their very existence is destroying the earth. Home schoolers are picking up the slack and blazing a trail for others to follow.

I come from a small family, but after marrying had 5 children in 10 years. That was a shock, as I had no experience with kids. We were poor at the time, but my kids never went hungry, even without government help. I grew a lot of food and canned it. My husband was a hunter, we had plenty of protein. People these days are spoiled, wanting things instead of loving experiences. My children are married and each has between 2 and 5 kids. I feel I’ve done my part to populate the country. BTW, they are all conservatives.

I don’t think this has ever been so bad. Should a woman have a baby she doesn’t want, there are many American families waiting to adopt.

This article talks about encouraging “women” to have more children. I feel it should read encourage more “Married Couples” to have more children. We have far too many underprivileged women having children now. Children they are ill equipped to feed, cloth, and educate. Drugs are often involved and this ends up with damaged children in the system! So yes more married couples need to choose to have children but those of child bearing years now are narcissistic and only think about themselves and do not want to have Anything to interfere with their career or free time.

Maybe I’ve become too cynical, but I know of some women who would get pregnant and have a baby just to get the $5000, We need families to raise children, not just give birth to them.

It is not a matter of infertility. It is a matter of Godlessness. A nation lead by godless people leads to godless response. A return to GOD and moral decency in this nation will lead to couples wanting to bring children into such a world and the family will, once again, thrive. Until then, America will probably remain childless.

As a parent with 5 children and 9 grandchildren, I can attest to the joy they bring. One does not need children to feel fulfilled, but they sure do fulfill one! I personally think those that elect to remain childless are selfish and do not want to put another person first. Sure, there may be some financially juggling or not eating out all the time, but the rewards are priceless. I applaud the president for any tax cuts provided as well as helping those that need fertility treatments.

Back in the 70’s & 80’s when my friends and I were having babies all we heard was there were too many people on the planet. Save the planet and have fewer children. Everyone was looking down on large families because they would use more resources, so what changed? Environmental wouldn’t a smaller population have less impact on dwindling resources? Were they lying then or lying now?

My 25 year old daughter is expecting her 3rd child. All of her pregnancies have had difficulties and this time it is constant nausea (so far). But there is nothing that could ever take away the joy of a baby, from the moment of conception and through their lifetime.
Because monetary problems ensued, in the biden years, we all live together (Gramma, Daddy, Mommy, 2 boys and 1 on the way). We are all happy together and most importantly, my daughter and son-in-law and their young family are able to experience life as they should: as a strong growing loving family.

Not having children and importing millions of people from very different cultures is a good way to destroy a nation from inside. Continuing to do this will destroy the social cohesion of our society as well as it’s economic vitality, social stability, and generational continuity.

The damage to our society could be reduced if the newcomers assimilate, but that’s not happening because they are coming in such large numbers and they are not being encouraged to assimilate. Quite the opposite, we are enabling them to not assimilate.

We need to encourage US citizen couples to have children and we need a moratorium on all immigration for about 20 years, so the recent immigrants can assimilate into our culture.

One there are reasons for the lack of American births, the country is in a turmoil ,cost is high, schools are not teaching the subjects that would be beneficial.
Instead the far left inserted their destroying programs such as DEI, woke, confusing the kids about their sex trying to convert males to females, females to males.
The list goes on.

The answer lies in religion, not government. Devout religious families simply have more kids, likely because their focus is not on the here and now, but on the future. What speaks more to the future than having kids?

I saw a study in which it was found that a fairly small number of families having 8 children (who pass on that behavior to their kids) can offset even a catastrophic decline in national birthrates. The kicker is, assuming those families pass on their moral values as well as their choice to procreate, they can quickly change the moral character of a society for the better.

Our moral religions need to double down on this. Quit kowtowing to the self-worshippers (for their contributions) and get back to work on making a better society through growing better, moral, people. Government needs to stay out of it, especially as they have no business messing in religious affairs.

You know who has the lowest birthrates? Atheists and the uncommitted, those focused on this life, a material life, in the here and now. We’re all better off if we allow them to simply fade away. No need to bump their birthrates.

We should let the libtards, baby-haters, abortion lovers, perverts and others suffering from mental disorders have their abortions, their gay marriages, their genital-destroying surgeries, etc. And in three generations there won’t be anymore of these deranged weirdos.
And in the mean time, loving, ‘straight’ couples, who will love, care for, and teach their children right from wrong, strong morals, integrity, strong work ethics, and God should have children. Exactly what America needs more of.

Remember that we’ve gotten to this disastrous point because the feminist propaganda has convinced millions of women that they are second-class citizens if they love staying at home having babies—–they should instead get a career and be out there in the corporate world creating havoc. Looks like the feminists succeeded quite well. Too bad for America.

DIMM ideas are to kill American babies then import illegal breeders to compensate. Of course, illegals have to fealty to OUR country! Some studies show that when one adds up the cost of childcare, extra car, fancier clothes, etc., for the second worker, a woman [or man] could stay home with the kids and there would be little actual difference in costs!

Sperm counts have been halved in the last 50 years worldwide. Men and women labels have tried to be erased. We haven’t emphasized community in our shared culture any more – a sense of shared purpose and continuity. Some young people see hopelessness and despair. They’ve been told that the division into tribes is the way to go. Everything is an existential threat. Families should be celebrated and protected, They offer a child the blueprint for connections in society when they grow up. Education, healthcare, connection and service have been lost over the years. Over 50 years ago the zero population movement was strong. Too many people would cause the worldwide collapse due to depleted resources. That didn’t come to pass, obviously. Not everyone can or wishes to have children and that’s ok. There are other paths to follow.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to bring a child into today’s world with the way things are? The weather and earthquakes are becoming increasingly severe, and that doesn’t even account for the perilous events that the super volcanoes will bring upon the world. Israel is being attacked harder than ever, China is threatening war on Taiwan and the US, countries are taking sides, and the threat of World War III lingers. All one has to do is read the book of Revelation in the Bible to see and understand that we are indeed in the End of Days. President Trump is working his ass off to change our country and the world for the better and they are fighting like hell to keep him from succeeding. The problem is that he only has 4 years, and we all know what happened after his previous 4 years. We are not guaranteed another Trump-like President in the next Presidential election, so once again, if that occurs, we’ll be right back to where we started, and we all know that the liberal far left democrats and rhino republicans will go to lengths to take that election at all costs to get their power back. Now, with all that is going on and going to happen, why would anyone want to bring a baby into this world and subject it to all of what is coming in the future? I fully understand where President Trump is coming from, but I disagree, and even he cannot force or even push people into having children for his reason.

Birth rates are falling world-wide, not just in the U.S. Based on their financial positions, it’s easy for J.D. Vance, Elon Musk and Karoline Leavitt to tell people to have more babies. But most families can’t make it on one salary. The cost of childcare is astronomical. Child tax credits are nice, but If we want to encourage families to have more children, we should heavily subsidize childcare and support paid family leave for new parents. We can subsidize hedge fund managers, why not families?
