That chapter of Washington’s life took center stage Tuesday night at the Washington, D.C. premiere of Young Washington, a new historical drama set for nationwide release on July 3, 2026.
In an exclusive premiere of the film at the Kennedy Center, children and adults alike were invited to watch Washington’s story unfold on the big screen. Audience members left with a renewed appreciation for the challenges that forged his character and a deeper understanding of a formative chapter of American history that has often been overlooked.
The Angel Studios production brings Washington’s story to life, transporting audiences directly to the battlefield alongside young George as he learns the meaning of prudence and American leadership. It stars William Franklyn-Miller alongside a talented supporting cast including Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Kelsey Grammar, and Mary-Louise Parker.
Young Washington portrays the founding father’s early military service in the Virginia colonial militia during the French and Indian War. The film captures what many textbooks do not: the humanity and ambition that shaped Washington before he became one of the nation’s defining leaders.
A unique theme of the film is God’s providential hand over the young Washington as he confronts the trials and harsh realities of military command. Through moments of hardship, sacrifice, and uncertainty, the filmmakers present Washington’s journey not simply as a series of historical events, but as a path guided by divine purpose and preparation for greater responsibility.
Brandon Purdie, head of theatrical distribution and brand development at Angel Studios, said the film “captures the tension, courage, and humanity of a leader whose formative story has rarely been told on screen.”

Trump significantly repaired a falling apart Kennedy Center but was denied having his name on it. No other president did a damned thing to renovate it!
As an avid, but poor movie fan, I have watched Angel Studios for several years. The reviews of Angel Studios’ output have shown the filmmakers have crafted highly regarded films, (which are on my watch list).
