At the southern gateway of Alaska’s Inside Passage rests Ketchikan—a vibrant coastal community with a rare blend of rugged wilderness, rich culture, and small-town charm that’s impossible to forget. Discover where heritage meets the grandeur of God’s creation as we explore Alaska’s colorful heart.
Perched on the edge of forested hillsides sits this postcard-perfect town, bursting with character. Step away from the docks and into downtown Ketchikan, where you’ll find rustic buildings painted in vivid reds, blues, and yellows. Since most sights are within walking distance, exploring downtown Ketchikan on foot is an easy way to sightsee at your own pace.
Stroll historic Creek Street’s wooden boardwalks to watch thousands of wild salmon leap up waterfalls during their annual migration. Wander into artisanal shops and stunning galleries. As you drift through Creek Street, don’t forget to take in the sound of rushing waters coming from the vast creek that runs beneath the boardwalk. Ketchikan, Alaska’s first city, seamlessly blends natural splendor with rich history.
Speaking of history, be sure to visit the Saxman Native Village and the Totem Heritage Center to witness the world’s largest collection of standing totem poles. This extraordinary tribute to the Tlingit and Haida peoples celebrates their art and cultural traditions. Every corner of this town tells a story.
Known as the “Salmon Capital of the World”, Ketchikan offers an outdoor experience unlike any other. Feeling adventurous? Book a fishing charter and try your hand at catching Alaska’s famous salmon or halibut, guided by seasoned locals in one of the most productive fishing grounds on Earth. Set within the largest temperate rainforest in the world, Ketchikan is a highlight stop on AMAC’s Celebrate America! Alaska Cruise.
