Bohemia, NY — [7/1/2026] — As the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence, the AMAC Book Club is proud to announce its July Book of the Month: The Making of the American Mind: The Story of Our Declaration of Independence by renowned scholar Matthew Spalding.

At a time when Americans are reflecting on the founding principles that shaped the nation, Spalding’s book offers a timely and insightful exploration of the Declaration of Independence and the ideas that inspired it. Through a compelling historical narrative and thoughtful analysis, readers are invited to rediscover the principles of liberty, equality, natural rights, and self-government that remain central to the American experiment.

“As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, understanding the ideas behind our nation’s founding is more important than ever,” said AMAC CEO Rebecca Weber. “This book provides readers with a deeper appreciation of the Declaration of Independence and the enduring truths that have guided our country for nearly two and a half centuries.”

In The Making of the American Mind, Spalding traces the intellectual origins of the Declaration and examines the philosophical traditions that influenced the Founders. The book also provides a clear and accessible commentary on the document itself, helping readers better understand its meaning and lasting significance.

The selection aligns with AMAC’s ongoing commitment to promoting civic education, constitutional principles, and informed citizenship. Members and readers are encouraged to join the discussion throughout July as the AMAC Book Club explores one of the most important documents in American history and the ideas that continue to shape our nation’s future.
