Wind Power Lies Costing Blue-State Ratepayers

Red states have low electric rates. Blue states gouge residents and businesses with exorbitant rates. But even worse are the bald-faced lies blue-state politicians tell you to defend the gouging.

Instead of admitting that expensive electricity is a choice they’re deliberately making – your budget be damned – they lie, claiming wind and solar power are “affordable” and “reliable.”

The shameless gaslighting was on full display last week, in response to a Trump administration edict pausing offshore wind farm construction along the East Coast near Virginia, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

The administration claims that the huge installations obscure the detection of potential foreign adversaries that could threaten “east coast population centers.” President Donald Trump paused construction until a solution, if any, could be devised.

The minute the administration issued the pause, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont accused the Trump administration of “making things up.” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called it “B.S. “

Maybe. Admittedly, the Trump announcement was short on facts to back up its security pretext. But the possible deception on Trump’s side is mild compared with the lies spewed by Democrats in response.

Hochul claimed wind power will “keep energy costs down” and “strengthen reliability.” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong’s office spuriously insisted wind power will save ratepayers “hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Lamont claimed a “diverse energy supply” that includes wind will “lower utility costs for families.”

Nonsense. In fact, worse than nonsense. Deliberate lying.

Each state has the authority to decide the mix of energy sources that go into its electric grid. Blue states have mandated ever-increasing reliance on wind, as well as solar, instead of fossil fuels, explains the Institute for Energy Research.

New Yorkers pay, on average, 58% more for their electricity than the national average because of the green mandates state politicians have imposed and the power sources they exclude, such as natural gas fracking.

Connecticut ratepayers are fleeced even more, paying nearly double the national average rate for electricity.

Climate-driven pols, almost all of them Democrats, should at least admit they’re making decisions based on ideology and, in many cases, pressure from the renewable energy lobby. Instead, they parrot falsehoods about “affordability” and “reliability.”

Offshore wind power is at least twice as expensive per kilowatt as natural gas-generated electricity or almost any other source.

Citing 70 countries around the world, Bjorn Lomborg concludes that “global evidence is clear: Adding more solar and wind to the energy supply pushes up the price of electricity.”

How about “reliability,” the other word blue-state pols repeat ad nauseam to defend renewable energy sources?

Germany learned how unreliable renewables are. Germany installed massive solar and wind equipment to meet 70% of its grid’s needs. But on cloudy or nearly windless days, these renewables deliver a mere 4% – hardly “reliable.” Germany has had to maintain two generating systems at a massive cost.

Germans pay 43 cents per kilowatt hour, more than twice what Canadians with similar climate conditions but a reliance on fossil fuels pay.

UK liberal politicians went all out for green energy, but many are now backtracking. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak paused the UK’s transition to net-zero carbon use. Scotland’s government abandoned its goal of a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

New England (and the rest of the U.S.) could learn something from old England. Renewables are budget-busters, burdening consumers and slowing economic growth.

California’s increasing reliance on renewables – now up to 39% of the grid’s mix – explains why its residents and businesses pay the second-highest rates in the nation, behind Hawaii. That high cost is hobbling growth and causing “energy poverty” among low-income residents who can’t pay their electric bills.

Electric bills were a hot-button issue in the recent New Jersey gubernatorial election. Bills had increased by double digits in the year leading up to the election, partly because outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy retired fossil fuel sources just when power demand was soaring.

Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill promised that investing in offshore wind would “lower energy costs for families,” a blatantly false statement. Republican Jack Ciattarelli pledged to ban offshore wind farms and pursue a more diverse, affordable energy mix. Sherrill’s fib won out.

In blue states everywhere, Americans struggling to pay for electricity need to elect political leaders who will make affordability a priority. But to do that, voters need to hear the truth. So far, they’re getting a pack of lies about wind from windbag politicians like Sherrill, Hochul, and Lamont.

And no one is discussing the visual blight – seeing magnificent ocean-scapes destroyed by towering hardware across the horizon. If the Right were demanding lines of towering oil rigs across Long Island Sound or Nantucket Sound, the Left would be screaming bloody murder.

Let’s hope Trump’s pause on offshore wind turbine construction occasions an honest discussion of wind power. On the facts, instead of the lies, wind power is a loser.

Would anyone think, that those who have no clue, cause more harm than good , have no idea of what they are doing, but are in charge of enormous projects without any responsibility, could operate on someone’s brain ? No qualifications, no clue, no training or experience, yet they are making decisions of great consequence, why not be a surgeon or a pilot , time to boot them out, plug the feeding line.

Truth, for the left is relative and always based on their “feelings”. Truth, for the rest of the world, is quite absolute. Bird-shredders (aka wind turbines) can never provide a 100% ROI. If these eyesores were truly the holy-grail of energy supply, our tax-dollars would not be required to subsidize their fabrication, logistics, installation, and maintenance. But wind-turbines are really efficient at the destruction of birds, particularly migrating birds.

Wind power is not a lie…if your religion is Climate Change, the pseudo-religion of the Left, with its aim to CONTROL its worshipers, who are more than happy to subjugate themselves to their Marxist gods/overlords.

Germany has had to maintain two generating systems at a massive cost.

Finally! Someone has identified *why* renewables are so expensive. It’s having to maintain dual generating systems that kills *any* and *all* buyback from renewables (and then some). Worse, the greater the percentage of renewables your grid has, the worse the mirroring problem is. If 20% of your supply is renewables then you need to mirror 20% of your electricity production capacity. If 60% of your grid is renewables then you have to have an *excess* 60% of your generation capacity available to cover those bad days..

The problem stems from the fact that when the sun *is* shining and the wind *is* blowing traditional plants are turned off (priority goes to renewables). But, all those idle plants don’t cost $0 while idle. They still have staff to pay, rent/taxes to pay, loans/investors to pay back, insurance, etc. Worse, they have to be ready to come back online with little or no notice. Just like for the rest of us, their bills don’t stop coming in simply because their income stops. This means that when those plants are needed and are allowed to actually produce electricity they have to charge more for their product to cover the costs incurred while idle. TANFL (there are no free lunches).

As a thought experiment: What would a gas powered generating plant have to charge for it’s electricity if it were only allowed to sell electricity one or two days a month? That’s where we’re headed if you want to get to 90%+ renewables.

Unfortunately, my otherwise red State, Texas, bought into the renewable hype, and even led the way on wind farms :(. And yes, it has really put the squeeze on the electricity prices here too.

We need to hold steady or backtrack a bit where we’re at with regards to renewables as a percentage of grid production until a viable, *cheap* energy storage system is widespread. I.e. it has to be big enough to run the entire grid for consecutive “bad” days. Only then will you be able to shutter fossil fuel plants and (hopefully) realize cost saving from renewables (and that’s presuming renewables actually do cost less on the production side, which isn’t exactly clear at this point).

Wind power to heat your home or to provide electricity for your home is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!! Here in New York State one county was convinced to vote ????️ on the wind measure. Well after the first windmills were installed the town found that their contract would be expanding by another company. Apparently it was because the first contract was the “in” for the larger project. There is worry, anger, frustration over this sleight of hand. These wind mills are to be three times the height of the first that were installed. They are noisemakers. Plus they are positioned in farm fields. It promises to be quite a problem. I really don’t know why no one investigated GEO-THERMAL heating/cooling. Once it goes in you are basically off grid unless the system is neighbor-hood wide. Then it is a shared system. It is also cheap to run. The overall temperature stays the same until you lite your fireplace air conditioner. Any way thought I would just offer another option. Be well everyone and GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! AMEN MAGA

Alternative power in any form is not universal. If you are able to match the environment with the alternative source of power it may be useful to you. Where I live I use solar power to cover “most” of my electric bill most of the time. No, it does not pay my electric bill every month. Some months it does but it typically lowers the bill significantly throughout the year. So, is the initial output for solar panels worth it in the long run. For me, yes, but for the guy down the street whose house faces a different direction, maybe not. And cloudy, rainy days don’t shut me down but it does reduce the power generated. Some home owners can benefit from solar power but you need to look at it very closely. Track the sun, for the whole year, how long is your roof exposed to the sun every month. And generally, if you have to finance it over 5 -15 years it’s probably not a good investment for you. For those who can afford the scientific experiment there’s potential benefit if the sun rises and sets in the right place.
