Price transparency is a win for seniors and patients!
Washington – AMAC applauds the House of Representatives for passing the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, H.R. 5378. The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act is a great first step in using free market principles to reduce the price of healthcare for seniors and patients across the country. This legislation ensures patients have access to cost information on care, treatment, and services before stepping foot into a hospital or care facility.
AMAC Action President, Bob Carlstrom, applauded passage of the bill saying, “AMAC and our members are excited to see this important first step in lowering the price of healthcare pass the U.S. House of Representatives. The importance of this legislation to reduce the cost of healthcare cannot be understated and we see the immense support for this legislation in the large bipartisan votes in favor.”
AMAC Action is a long-time supporter of increasing price transparency requirements for hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, ambulatory surgical centers, and insurers. AMAC has also called for increased transparency of the business practices used by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). Seniors will benefit from this legislation by lowering the costs paid by Medicare by allowing site-neutral drug administration. Finally, all Americans will benefit by making it easier and more transparent for generic drugs to enter the market.
AMAC’s members have also shown support for the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act with more than 15,000 members reaching out to their representatives in support of the legislation.
Now to see if Schumer will take up the legislation in the Senate and bring it up for a floor vote or simply toss it in the trash bin in his office. The House has passed a lot of legislation since the GOP has regained control of the House, but sadly a lot of those bills have gone nowhere in the Democrat controlled Senate. Perhaps AMAC can apply some pressure on Republican Senators to be more vocal about the huge backlog of House passed bill that Majority Leader Schumer has decided to simply disregard. Just a thought.
The government should not be in the health care business at all, just as they should butt out of education. Everything they do makes it more expensive and less responsive. Too much of our money goes to supporting these agencies.
The passing of the Lower Costs , Price Transparency Act is very encouraging. And it is good to know that AMAC Action has been in support of this legislation. This will help to bring about a better, stronger, healthier United States of America. Praise for everyone involved with this great improvement.
Yes a good first step, but the marxist democrat party is not supportive of anything that they can’t STEAL from!
Throw everyone democrat out!
It would probably cost less at hospitals if they stopped charging $7.50 for two Tylenols for the same price as a whole bottle at CVS.
This is a small step to make it appear like seniors are getting something good, however the entire medicare and insurance system is extremly corrupt and dishonest. If seniors paid their entire lives by payroll deductions that they had no choice about towards medicare and social security then why should they have to continue paying a monthly premium even after they retire. Seems like if these “insurance companies” can afford to spend billions of $ annually to advertise so called “FREE” things, this would indicate that they are making toooo much money that could be put back in the pot to lower costs for the recipients of the benefits. There are too many hands trying to take too big of a piece of this pie just like the healthcare for veterans, it is a disgrace.
Except as Seniors, we will not see a reduction in Healthcare costs until Medicare and private health insurance companies reduce our premiums. If they do not, any savings we should see will be absorbed by them and our premiums will continue to rise.
Is Mitch McConnell a true, conservative leader to speak out to Schumer & his pal JB! Think not!
Now we need to work on lowering the price of Medicare and Medicaid .
how do we roll back the %50 increase in healthcare from the Affordable Care Act?
Wait and see what happens in the senate!
The House passed the bill but will the Senate follow suit? Also, will the president sign it?
Schumer and the senate will table it, like any piece of common sense legislation from the house.
Perhaps complete transparency us needed not just more which suggests there is none
OH BOY!! The government says that prices and costs of drugs are going to improve because they passed a bill saying so.
Now, whats it gonna be for Christmas? Ole Roy or can I put some cans of Alpo on my credit card?

Tried to get prescriptions lately? 2 days if you are lucky. I hate to say this but when there is no financial incentive to manufacture prescriptions, they won’t, and people will die and this “act” will have unintended consequences. Sorry, but that is what is going to happen.
