Chanukah is the eight day festival of lights which commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire. It celebrates the preservation of the Jewish faith and the rededication of the Second Temple. After the death of Alexander the Great, his empire was divided among his generals. Antiochus IV became the ruler of Syria and wanted Hellenist Gods as tribute included in the Second Temple. The Maccabees revolted because Judaism is monotheistic. Hellenist Gods were not acceptable to the Jews because there is only one God, not many. Christians need to understand that if the Jews did not revolt to preserve monotheism, Christianity may never have occurred.

Funny how things like the victory of the Maccabees demonstrate the sovereignty of the one true God.

Beautiful picture; I had to Google the meaning of a cat at Chanukah. Very interesting information. I’m not Jewish, but I certainly respect the religion and the entire Israel population. My Lutheran church (back in the 1950’s) took in a Jewish family who had escaped the Nazis. They were amazing, awesome people, and had the physical scars of abuse. Thanks to my church, they went on to live a wonderful productive live in our small town.

The cat could be an encouragement that they can be adopted during either holiday or they are just as mischievous with an decorations. Something I know my cat would do:)
