I realized this morning that ALL my heroes in history were big time troublemakers. Everyone in this picture and the missing guys, along with Abe Lincoln, MLK, and the biggest trouble maker in all history, Jesus of Nazareth.

56 very brave men signed the Declaration of Independence: 9 of then died fighting in the Revolutionary War, 5 were captured by the British and tortured, 2 had sons that died in the war, and a dozen had their homes pillaged and burned by the British. On the bright side, 2 became future Presidents. As Benjamin Franklin said when he signed: “We must indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly, we shall hang separately.” Ben and the rest of the men knew signing the Declaration of Independence was treason in the eyes of the British Crown. They did risk everything, even the ultimate price of their lives.

Beautiful sculpture. Reminds me of the final scene in the musical 1776 where the delegates are signing the Declaration. I can still hear the somber music. Most excellent movie to watch. I see it every Independence Day since the first time watching it about 5 years ago.
