DOJ Crackdown Reveals More Noncitizens Charged with Illegal Voting

A small town Kansas mayor born in Mexico. A Filipino senior citizen living in Hawaii. Two Pakistani men residing in New Jersey. An Aussie in Louisiana. And a Chinese student studying at the University of Michigan. They all have one thing in common.

Each has been charged in the last year with illegally voting in U.S. federal elections as foreigners, part of a sudden wave of prosecutions led by the Trump Justice Department for a crime that used to be among the rarest in the federal court system.

The Trump Justice Department has secured about two dozen non-citizens voting arrests, prosecutions or convictions in the last few months alone, with about another 90 more cases under investigation, officials told Just the News. And all 50 states were sent notices this month that election officials can and will be prosecuted too if they allow non-citizens to vote.

“It isn’t just bad policy to let non-citizens vote in federal elections, it’s a crime. And this Department of Justice will intend to prosecute that crime if these election officials, having been informed that they are non-citizens on the voter rolls, knowingly allow those people to vote, enable their enrollment on the voter rolls, are passive in the face of this knowledge, etc. This is not some idle threat,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon told the Just the News, No Noise television show.

DOJ officials have found three major problems in policing states’ voter rolls ahead of the 2026 election: hundreds of thousands of dead people still eligible to vote, tens of thousands of illegal aliens on the rolls, and scores of foreigners having gone beyond registering to, in fact, vote in a federal election, which is illegal.

Dhillon, the top election cop inside the DOJ, believes the number of foreigners illicitly voting in elections is probably higher but has been frustrated that U.S. Attorney offices across the country haven’t made illegal voting a larger priority until just recently.

“We are trying to empty an ocean with a teaspoon because there isn’t a culture of U.S. attorneys going after these,” she explained.

That’s changing with the sudden explosion of cases.

Just before the 250th American birthday celebration, three non-United States citizens in Florida confessed to having knowingly voted in federal elections despite not being eligible to do so.

Federal law requires voters to be American citizens to vote on the federal level, but some states and cities allow non-citizens to vote in local elections.

The three non-citizens voted in Florida and two of them – one from Cuba and the other from Haiti — admitted to voting in 2020 federal elections. The third, a Brazilian, voted in a federal election in 2024 after becoming a lawful permanent resident.

“Voting in federal elections is one of the most important rights and responsibilities of American citizenship,” U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones, for the Southern District of Florida, said in a statement. “Federal law is clear: only United States citizens may vote in federal elections. These defendants admitted that they knowingly violated that law.”

In Hawaii, a foreigner was charged for the first time in four decades with voting in a federal election in that state. Remedios Alasaas, 66, a Philippine national living in Maui, was charged last month with illegally voting in the 2022 general election and again in an August 2024 primary.

In North Carolina, a Canadian man living in the U.S. since the 1960s was sentenced to two months in prison after pleading guilty to making false claims about his citizenship to vote in various elections dating back to 2004.

Liberal organizations like the Brennan Center for Justice and many Democrats argue non-citizen registrations are a minor problem but overblown by conservatives. That case has been harder to make as the evidence has begun piling up.

Take, for instance, Michigan Democrat Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who long claimed non-citizens don’t vote in her state. Last year, she was forced to admit she found 15 credible cases of foreigners voting in the 2024 elections.

One of those was a Chinese student at the University of Michigan who turned himself in after allegedly being registered to vote and casting a ballot in the general election. The student was charged with two felonies: false swearing to register to vote and trying to vote as an unqualified elector.

Such cases caused Benson to adjust her messaging.

“This is a serious issue, one we must address with a scalpel, not a sledgehammer,” she said in a statement after the revelations.

In the nation’s capital, one of the most Democrat bastions in the country, a conservative watchdog group reported it found evidence that nearly 400 non-citizens voted in the 2024 general election.

“It is an outrage and insult to every American citizen, and may be a violation of federal law, that D.C. allowed 388 foreign nationals to vote in the 2024 general election,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “Congress can and should end this practice immediately.”

Non-citizens legally in the country place themselves at far more risk than just prosecution if they unlawfully vote. Their pathway to citizenship and ability to stay in the country can quickly be ended.

Take the case of Joe Ceballos, a Mexican national and former mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, who recently was ordered to report to federal immigration detention after pleading guilty to voting illegally as a non-citizen.

Ceballos, earlier this year, pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor charges for voting without being a U.S. citizen. He said it was “an honest mistake” because he is a permanent legal resident.

The non-citizen registration and voting cases are expected to soar. Trump administration officials like Dhillon believe the total number of foreigners who made it onto voter rolls will grow into the hundreds of thousands when all the reviews of state voter rolls are completed.

Many blue and even some red states are fighting in court to block the DOJ from examining their voter rolls. The dozen or so states that have cooperated in some form have identified 20,000 to 30,000 non-citizens on their rolls, officials said. A much larger bloc of non-citizens is expected to be found in non-cooperating states such as New York, New Jersey, Illinois and California, the officials said.

The DOJ push comes as President Donald Trump tries to persuade a reluctant U.S. Senate to pass the Save America Act that would impose citizenship and voter ID on all federal election voters. Some congressional Republicans believe Democrat resistance to the legislation may be a sign of something more sinister.

“Obviously, political parties that want to cheat. They will do what they can to fight to prevent photo ID in those states,” Rep.Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., told Just the News on Friday. “And that is a problem we have here. People are going to continue to feel that elections are not honest, because that’s the only reason I can think of why people would not want photo ID.

“I mean, my goodness, you need it for things like getting a drug prescription to save your life, and that’s right, but there are politicians, all of whom happen to be Democrats, who feel that photo ID is racist, and so if we, if we tuck it into some sort of spending bill, we think we can at least make a step in the right direction,” he said.

How about charging Democrats with aiding and abetting illegal voting? Democrats know they constantly cheat, we know they constantly cheat and yet they get away with it. If you try and call it out and stop it you are a racist and disenfranchising underprivileged people

The time to turn our backs on this blatant felony is past…arrest, prosecute, imprison. Not only the voter, but those that ALLOW, or ENABLE this to happen.

This is yet another sign of societal decay that has been sweeping our nation and the rest of the world over many years. Too many people doing unethical things and getting away with it is a tragic consequence of broken families, teachers that indoctrinate rather than teach our precious children, and political divisiveness that no longer focuses on what is best for America but seeks to destroy the most amazing country that has ever existed. Harmeet Dhillon said it well: “We are trying to empty an ocean with a teaspoon because there isn’t a culture of U.S. attorneys going after these,” We seniors MUST stay in this fight for the heart and soul of our country. Our children and our grandchildren’s future is at stake.

Illegals that vote have committed 2 Federal crimes , being in America illegally and voting.
They should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law with the People who help them break our laws.

Thank goodness this is getting some DOJ attention!

Now then, DOJ — Please use standard statistical sampling techniques to estimate the fraction of votes that are cast illegally. We the People need to know.

Please give lots of attention to the prosecutions, and draw the Left into commenting. We need to discourage illegal voting!

If the Left really wants non-citizens to vote, let them propose laws to make it happen and let’s debate it openly!

NON-citizens voting in any election in the USA is a crime that the NON-citizen and those that assisted them to register is a crime that should be prosecuted to fullest. Thank you to the current DOJ for leading this effort.

In addition, should there be a discussion about NON-citizens holding elected office of any kind? We should expect that ALL of our elected officials ARE citizens and believe in the ideals outlined in our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

But of course, according to the democrats, it NEVER happens!! And, if it does happen, according to them there are only very, very few!

ANY illegal alien vote, waters down an actual American citizen’s vote! It is time to vote out and jail any politicians that allow this nonsense to continue. Wake up America! We have to STOP this now, while we still have a country. It is past time to take a stand! If not now, when? If not us, who?

Election officials and poll volunteers that permit illegals to vote are guilty of treason! Prosecute them and give them prison sentences that will be a real deterrent to permitting voter fraud. Ten years at least with no reduction of sentence for good behavior.

A scapel not a sledgehammer? What a play on words, and unless these criminals are deported, at their own expense to their native countries, this illegal voting will continue. Again I say, jail is too good for them, take all each one’s holdings and deport them. Until we do, nothing will change.

Part of the problem lies with misinformation given or assumed by individuals who gain the coveted green card and achieve long term residency status but don’t follow through to complete the path of citizenship. Anyone who stops the process at the point of gaining long time residency with the green card that allows them to work is not a citizen and despite being able to earn doesn’t mean they have full status as a citizen despite being here long term. And that status can be taken away if they have done something like voting in a federal election which their status as just a green card holder with long term residency permission does not qualify them.
I happen to find this out researching the path to citizenship done legally to understand why so many people have not achieved citizenship despite being here decades—somewhere along those years someone assumed that they didn’t need to progress pass getting that green card and long term residency status because they eventually would be returning back to their country they left behind anyway

I am not sure the United States ever has a fair election. In the 1960 election between Kennedy and Nixon, deceased people voted for Kennedy in Chicago, Illinois, helping elect Kennedy President. If one takes a look at the Trump-Biden election, the total number of votes cast was beyond what the norm growth in total votes would have been which suggests corruption. Votes were cast in some states where voters did not live. The voting process is corrupt and the politicians in both political parties want it that way because these irregularities would have been stopped years ago. Let’s face it the political system and voting system in the United States is corrupt with many issues.

There needs to be a crackdown to reduce “double voting.” For example, during the 2004 presidential election, a friend of mine who lives in Cincinnati said Ohio had issues with people who lived in Covington (KY) but who voted in Cincinnati. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this double dipping occurs in Philadelphia since several people who live in Delaware and New Jersey work in Philadelphia. Ditto for other large cities such as New York, St. Louis, Chicago, and Milwaukee.

Las Vegas needs to have a crackdown since there are residents there who have a residence in another state so voting twice can skew the results of an election. I remember in college we were always asked to keep a “permanent address” – the military does that too.

Consequences needed: an illegal act followed by charges of said act then prosecution in a court of law, review by your peers, sentencing followed by rehabititation. Example – Speeding. Apprehended by the police, ticket issued, court date set, mail in check or go to court. Judge finds you guilty (you were speeding, right?) and you pay the fine.

It’s not just the democrats, it’s also the media. They gaslight the public with claims that this doesn’t happen. There needs to be a concentrated effort to debunk the media and then to discredit the worst offenders, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and MS NOW. 95% of media reports contain false information and too much of it, is just an outright lie. Boycott the media.

Why haven’t we seen these arrests in the news? I had no idea this was going on. It needs to be reported so illegals can see that they CAN be arrested!! Most people would not commit a crime if the knew they could be arrested. Thank God Trump is our president. He has uncovered a lot of fraud by the Communists “wanna be’s” here. The DOJ’s who do not want to give over the state voter laws should be arrested as well. There is only one reason for not turning them in and it is to CHEAT!!!!! If we could stop all of the voter fraud, the Communists would have a tough time winning. The Senate needs to get on board with stopping this fraud from the radical liberal Communists! Unfortunately, my senators are the Communists Kelly and Gallego. They are both disgustingly trying to stop Trump at everything good he is doing.

At least in Indiana, ALL the candidates [state, local, federal] appear on the same ballot. How could you know whether an illegal was only voting in the local or state election? Take their word for it? They have already violated the law by being here; are they going to grow a conscience now?

The 14th Amendment includes a mandate that eligible voters are “males of 21 years or older and citizens” for all Federal and State level elections (executives, legislators and judges); the 19th and 26th Amendments, the ONLY way to change the Constitution and THIS provision under Article 5, made the eligible voters 18 years or older and citizens regardless to gender (male or female). The SAME provision mandates an automatic penalty to ANY State that “abridges an eligible voter’s vote in ANY WAY” reducing that State’s Representatives in the House of Representatives (and Electors to the President and VP) USING the abridged voters’ proportion to the total number of eligible voters in that State WHICH requires a citizen count in the Census for EACH State also BLOCKED by cheating States. SINCE the requirement for eligibility to vote has already been made law in the Amendment as well as a citizen count for EACH State in the Census thereto, AND the penalty as well, President Trump is well within his law-enforcement authority to issue an Enforcement Order (aka Executive Order) to affect those THREE laws: voter ID, Census citizen count for each State and the penalty therein prescribed. Let SCOTUS field that BEFORE the cheat of 2026 can take place.
Harmeet, please advise the President on acting.

The democrats want fraudulent elections. Photo ID are required everywhere but the dems want to

play the race card. Not against the colored but the white race. They love any minority because they want to keep them dumb and under their control. They are betting on the wrong horse in this case. The coloreds are onto their tactics along with the white race they think and questions their motives, their policies. Common sense tells them they are right. Only the dems don’t want to have anything to do with what is right. They want the power to control the masses and they can only do that by replacing the current white population with illegals from all over the world. 20 million in 4 years under Autopen. Say only 1>% vote that can swing a lot of votes to dem candidates. Without an ID they all become like the mayor in Kansas oh I didn’t know I couldn’t vote I am a permanent resident here. Bull. When he became a permanent resident he was told he couldn’t vote. Legal

migrants can never vote in Federal elections. I think they also should not vote in state or local elections. They can become citizens after living here 5 years. Any voting before that erases the privilege of those born here. Their vote means nothing and the people that are here illegally and vote, take over America with the full support of the Democrat Party.

I think the majority of Americans agree with use of photo ID to vote, but the SAVE act has a few strings attached to their real ID that are not good for voters. Trump gave speech at Mt Rushmore on July & he pretty much spilled the beans on why he wants the SAVE act passed…..and this is what he said ” We need to get rid of filibuster and pass the SAVE act & that the Republicans will not lose an election for the next 100 years “. Trump is down in the polls & is really concerned with the midterm election this year. Our elections have worked for 250 years & let us continue with the states running elections. And why did Trump fire members of election assistance committee last week, what was that all about?
