Building on his legacy as a great dealmaker, President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a minerals deal with Ukraine following several months of negotiations. The deal was seen as a necessary sign of good faith for the U.S. to continue negotiating a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.
Bloomberg first reported the news, explaining that the “deal will grant the US privileged access to new investment projects to develop Ukraine’s natural resources including aluminum, graphite, oil and natural gas.” The new deal between the two countries will give the United States the “first claim on profits transferred into a special reconstruction investment fund that would be controlled by Washington.”
“This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine over the long term,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said. “President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both sides’ commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine.”
The Treasury Department explained in a statement that the deal allows the U.S. and Ukraine to “to work collaboratively and invest together to ensure that our mutual assets, talents, and capabilities can accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery.” Under this agreement, the U.S. government will work with Ukraine to finalize the details and program governance.
Ukraine’s Economic Minister Yulia Svyrydenko signed the deal on behalf of her country. She explained that the U.S. will provide “air defense systems for Ukraine” with Ukraine contributing “50% of state budget revenues from new rent on new licenses for new areas” as part of the fund.
“The Fund will then invest in extraction projects for critical materials, oil, and gas — as well as in related infrastructure and processing. Specific investment projects will be selected jointly by Ukraine and the U.S. Importantly, the Fund may invest exclusively in Ukraine,” she posted on X. “We expect that for the first 10 years, Fund profits and revenues will not be distributed, but instead reinvested into Ukraine — into new projects or reconstruction. These terms will be subject to further discussion.”
Trump explained in a Cabinet meeting Wednesday that the deal will be good for both countries.
“We made a deal where our money is secure, where we can start digging and doing what we have to do,” the president said. “It’s also good for them because you’ll have an American presence at the site, and the American presence will keep a lot of bad actors out of the country or certainly out of the area where we’re doing the digging.”
Democrats had notably been critical of Trump’s approach toward the Russia-Ukraine war following the president’s blowup with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office in February. This latest breakthrough, however, appears to vindicate Trump’s approach toward the war of ensuring any U.S. involvement advances American interests.

This deal could be a step towards ending the war if it is coupled with a clear indication to Putin that we will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons and Intelligence until a lasting ceasefire is achieved.
Otherwise without our continuing aid and support to Ukraine, Putin will eventually wear down and take over all of Ukraine and this minerals deal will mean nothing.
Pres. Trump is certainly the best deal maker for he not only assured Ukraine’s protection from invaders in the future, but also help them with their reconstruction through the profits of the “mineral project”. This will also help us recover all the billions we helped Ukraine with, in this war. But Democrats being ignorant in ECONOMICS are talking with their flawed & ignorant take on Economic growth & strength. This will be a win-win situation for all, prosperity for all and most of all. insurance of l peace in Ukraine. Dem’s has defined themselves as “idiots” and their complicit media as traitors to World peace.
Great news. In the meantime, the US must creat its own refining capabilities, so we can mine and refine our own rare earth minerals instead of relying on foreign suppliers.
Someone is actually trying to pay their debts to the US? That’s novel. I think there are outstanding debts from our “allies” in WW I and II. Plus we let Europe build up their factories and then charge us tariffs! DJT wants people to pay their own way rather than leech off of us!
Okiay, no NATO, thankfully. But Trump has now put us whit Ukraine as a partner. If Russia continues the war…WILL TRUMP PUT BOOTS ON THE GROUND TO PROTECT HIS- errrr, our -INVESTMENT???????
Is Ukraine currently mining mineral deposits & do they have smelters & processing plants that will complete the mining cycle. Does Trump plan on US mining companies to operate in Ukraine or allow mining by other countries? It should be noted that a lot of the mines in Canada, USA, and Mexico are currently being mined by other foreign companies. Mining operations rely on people with lots of experience in the field!
This move by President Trump is truly “The Art Of The Deal”.This will end China’s near monopoly on strategic minerals, encourage Putin to sign a peace agreement with the Ukraine and benefit both countries equally. America MUST keep a tight rein on Zelinsky and his cohorts to make sure there is no double dealing under the table.
Trump at his best. An example of what average American’s like about him.
OK Dems – it is acceptable for you to occassionally give Trump a little credit – like this situation. You would get a lot more understanding support if you would do this common sense step. Otherwise, we all see through your continuous hatred, and pure ‘sower grapes’ attitudes.
I can’t wait till the other deals President Trump is making with all the other countries. It might shut up the Democrats for a minute or so. And it will be really great for our country!
All dems want is for President Trump to fail, so they put as many roadblocks in his way as they can. Dems view obstruction as their goal over constructive participation to obtain positive outcomes for our country and citizens. As they prove daily by protecting criminals and illegals at every turn possible. IMO
While I maintain my “wait and see” view, this does sound like it might be an advantage. That Ukraine will have a means to prosper, and we can recover some of our hand outs, and Putin will have to attend to the issue that could mean a more secure peace. But I wait and watch. Nothing is permanent. Ukraine is still many steps away from being a “democracy” and Mr. Z is an unreliable partner here. Ukraine has to have skin in the game and we have to be sure we don’t screw ourselves with that special fund being established “ripe” for being robbed. Wait and see……that’s me.
It’s great to have this deal. The reporting however that the president had a blowup with Zelensky was Zelensky doing the blowing up. He is a most ungrateful little dictator ever. He is a little Mussolini. And is being propped up by the military industrial complex to keep the war going. I hope this deal doesn’t make America the police force to keep Ukraine safe from bad actors. I don’t trust Zelensky and the money hungry oligarchs that prop him up. Zelensky should sign the peace deal today but he flies around the world looking for more support. He never thinks about all the Ukrainians that have given the ultimate sacrifice and for what. So he can snub his greatest supporter on the world stage. This deal shows the compassion of Trump to make peace and save lives. Zelensky doesn’t care and we the American taxpayers have been had by this little Mussolini.
Finally Victory
While this is good news, I can’t help but wonder how it will effect rare earth mining here in America. We do have rare earth minerals in this country and companies that mine them, Hecla being one of them.
I bought into them several years ago, anticipating the necessity of more rare earth minerals for the production of microchips and since Trump has taken office.I’ve bought even more, expecting many of the environmental wacko restrictions on mining to be lifted.
Well…..it only took three months for Mr. Z. to have his mind changed.
At least President Trump trying get the money spend in Ukrainian
Let canada and greenland freely communicate with ukraine and their peoples to find out the outcome of the deal with America. This might give canada and greenland free some doubts about the partnership. And find out that Mr. Trump and his and you are the the big bad wolves: That Mr. Trump knows what he is doing and what Mr. trump foresees in the future. Or let these 2 countries get out the books and start teaching their grandchildren to speak chinese. Canada and greenland have to realize the importance Mr, Trump is trying to accomplish. No matter how it appears or looks america needs greenland and canada cooperation./ What does china really stand for: To me they want global dominance this is what they do. No mateer how it looks this too will be a partnership.
Trump “inked a deal” with a nobody from Ukraine. There is no legal status in the signed document whatsoever. This was yet another media event both by the green clad grifter in Ukraine and the carnival barker/US President.
And, anyone ask the Russians who sit on the majority of the land these “rare earths” are situated how willing they might be in handing over hard won territory?
I was a Trump supporter but something is badly amiss in his administration. The man was calling for the setting aside of Habeas Corpus for Gods sake. Folks you need to look into some of the crap going on. I was also anything but happy to hear the carnival barker/US President declare himself to be the leader of the United States and the entire world.
Are we sure it was just his ear that got clipped?
