Forced out of Eastern Europe, Soros Network May Be Looking to Expand in U.S.

After what appears to be a calculated retreat from Eastern Europe, the George Soros-funded Open Societies Foundation (OSF) has said it will be focusing more on “emerging threats” elsewhere around the world. With Soros-funded prosecutors already wreaking havoc on the American justice system, that could be bad news for the United States.

OSF, a nonprofit with an endowment north of $20 billion, is one of the largest pieces of Soros’s empire of liberal influence groups spread across the globe. While the group proclaims to “work to build vibrant and inclusive democracies whose governments are accountable to their people,” OSF and its subsidiaries have become notorious for working to undermine conservative governments in Eastern Europe – most notably Soros’s native Hungary, led by Viktor Orban.

But in August, Alexander Soros, who had just assumed control of OSF from his 93-year-old father, announced in an internal letter that the organization would be phasing out many of its European operations. “In our new operating model, we will be better positioned to allow the robust civil society sector in many EU countries to move forward, as we free resources and personnel to anticipate emerging threats from authoritarians across the region, and indeed, around the world,” the letter read.

The younger Soros was careful not to frame the move as a retreat, but rather a “radical redesign to help us deliver more effectively on our mission.” But with OSF expected to lay off 80 percent of its staff at the group’s Berlin headquarters, the new CEO’s attempted spin doesn’t appear very convincing.

For European conservatives, a dramatic drawdown of OSF’s activities can’t come soon enough.

In Hungary, OSF has poured millions of dollars into funding opposition leaders trying to unseat Orban and his Fidesz party, as well as undermining their conservative policies. Back in 2018, OSF sued Orban’s government over their strict border control initiatives. Last year, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also uncovered shocking details about the extent of the Soros network’s control over the Hungarian government.

OSF and other Soros-linked groups have in particular worked to destroy any notion of border security throughout Europe, directly exacerbating the migrant crisis now sweeping the continent. OSF has given millions to other organizations that openly advocate for mass immigration and amnesty for illegal immigrants. In a 2016 op-ed, George Soros himself decried efforts to “build border fences” and impose limits on the number of migrant entries as “xenophobic nationalist movements.”

But while Europe may finally be getting some relief from the Soros network’s meddling, America could soon be getting a double dose.

In an interview this summer with The Wall Street Journal, Alexander Soros said he was “more political” than his father and that one of his top aims would be preventing a second term for Donald Trump.

That effort already appears to be well underway through the mounting prosecutions against the former president launched by Soros-funded prosecutors. In 2021, the Soros network pushed $1 million to the PAC which primarily funded Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s successful campaign. Soros-linked groups also funded New York Attorney General Letitia James, the Democrat behind the ongoing fraud trial against Trump.

In total, Soros-funded entities have contributed some $22 million to at least 23 prosecutors in some of America’s most important localities, including New York City, Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Chicago.

While these prosecutors have become most notorious for pushing policies like the elimination of cash bail and the decriminalization of “minor crimes” like robbery, their other purpose is now becoming clear – targeting the left’s political enemies.

Given the relatively minor pushback to the transparently partisan prosecutions of Trump, this weaponization of the justice system by Soros-funded prosecutors could become far more commonplace in the near future. Rather than financing expensive legislative races, left-wing groups like OSF may redouble their efforts in low-profile prosecutor races and then simply invent more “novel legal theories” to remove conservative politicians from office or disqualify them from running.

While such an effort may sound conspiratorial, the fact that it’s already happening with the Republican frontrunner for next year’s presidential election should be of grave concern to every person who cares about the integrity of American democracy. There’s no telling how much more damage OSF and the Soros network could do with tens of millions more dollars re-allocated to their U.S. operations.

The key to Eastern Europe’s recent progress in lessening the influence of Soros money in their governments was exposing the radical left-wing motivations behind the veneer of OSF’s “charitable” operations. Now, conservatives in the United States may need to adopt a similar approach as the Soros network looks to expand its reach.
