AMAC Action Leadership on Capitol Hill
AMAC Action had a busy week on Capitol Hill, even with Congress being adjourned for the August recess. Taking advantage of the slower pace and abundance of meeting time, your AMAC Action government relations team met with key staffers on the House Ways and Means Committee, Majority Whip’s office, and the Republican Conference to address critical components of proposed healthcare price transparency legislation. The team also hosted a policy briefing for senior-level healthcare staffers to detail the provisions of AMAC’s HEALTH Act. In all, AMAC Action met with 13 Congressional offices and professional staff making this week very productive. The team looks forward to returning to Washington, DC when Congress is in session in September.
Legislative and Policy Support
S. 1445 – Stand Your Ground Act
This legislation grants the ability to apply an affirmative defense when one is charged with any of sixteen named accusations including treason and murder in the case of self-defense or defense of another person when fear of non-lethal, or lethal consequences are present. S .1939 – FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023
The House of Representatives has passed FAA reauthorization legislation, including a provision to increase the mandatory retirement age from 65 to 67. The Senate is considering similar legislation, and AMAC is urging the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation to adopt the same language to increase the age to 67. Chapter Meetings
Members of GA-03 met at a local eatery and heard Noelle Kahaian, President and Co-Founder of Protect Student Health Georgia, speak on parents’ rights and protecting our children. In TX-24, members gathered at a local coffee shop for an informal chat.

Chapter 6 – Conservatives and the Community
“Community is essential to freedom, to private rights, and to the whole fabric of the civil social order.” The conservative knows and recognizes that healthy community, and the unique individuals which comprise it, is the enemy of the Marxist’s plots. Community encourages variation of opinion and custom, and fosters an environment conducive to healthy debate and problem-solving.
Community involvement is typified by Americans’ participation in city, township, and county government; voluntary associations; and innumerable fraternal and charitable bodies. “It is the performance of our duties which teaches us responsibility and prudence and efficiency and charity and morality… If these duties are shifted from the community to some centralized agency, before long true community will cease to exist.” The shift from community to centralized organization most often then leads to an era of stifling collectivism.
“Community encourages variety of opinion and custom, sheltering all those voluntary associations which oppose centralized despotism.” Get involved in your community in any way you can—volunteer at your local library or foodbank, attend local town meetings, mentor youth in your area. Help your community to flourish and thrive.
