As regards the SAVE Act, the Republicans should invoke a talking filibuster. Once everyone has spoken twice or until there isn’t a Commiecrat speaking on the floor, they can call for a vote that only requires a simple majority as opposed to the 60 vote threshold. John Thune and Co. either don’t have the stomach for it or don’t want it to pass. Over 80% of the country supports it. What’s the hold up?

Filibuster or no filibuster the democrats will find a way around whatever rule is in place. They have no honor, no desire to do the right thing. Pray for our nation.

The filibuster is being abused by the dumocrats. Change it back to a standing and talking filibuster. This way at least they will have to tell their lies to the public. They lied when they said they wanted to reform ICE. ICE is already funded. They always the hurt working class by shutting down programs that actually help the American people. They are socialist, Marxist and communists and are being fed lies everyday by the lying MEDIA which they happily gobble up and beg for MORE! There way too much foreign influence in the country for it to survive and they all hate us for being the most powerful and sucessful country in this sick world!

Fillibuster is good in preventing mob rule . However , fillibuster can also protect majority rule . The problem arises when a militant group of Legislators , not acting in their constitutents interests , but in the Party’s interest , go against their constitutents wishes and do what their Party “leaders” want . Today’s Democrats have clearly gone afield . They all seem to walk in lock-step with one another and support issues that are in the extreme minority such as voter ID. Virtually everyone supports votier ID . But the party masters won’t allow it . .There’s little to no independence among Democrat Legislators . They are obedient to their Party masters . The Democrat Party has become a domestic enemy . So , i’d rather keep the fillibuster as a means of protection of majority rule . We need to somehoworother get Democrat voters to demand that their Legislators back off from militantcy .

The filibuster should go back to its original definition and practice. If someone or party wants to delay a vote they need to get up and talk without a break until they can no longer stand. Everyone in senate is required to be present, no one can leave to go fund raise or campaign (unlimited debate) The senate would grind to a halt and those people who shut it down would either be seen as principled hero’s or obstructionists. But the people will eventually demand a vote. I would propose this first be used for Voter ID and Citizenship for Federal Elections Law.
The practice of requiring 60 votes for cloture (now referred to as the filibuster rule) is too easy. The senate needs to stop being a Tuesday thru Thursday work week with long holidays. They stay till the issue is resolved, talk it all out and then vote.

The problem with Republcans, conservatives, and Christians in the political world is they want to play by rules, the constitution and the rule of law that the Democrat Marxists will never play by. As a conservative Republican leader I’m astounded by the stupidity and ineptness of those on my side of the political divide. They are playing political chess, don’t realize it, and lose every time. It’s not that the Democrat Marxists are so smart, it’s just that our side is so stupid and those who vote on the right need to give their elected representatives an earful and let them know you will remember them when primary season comes up. As for me for example, I’m supporting the ouster of Rep. Thomas Massie in Ky’s 4th district, The Save Act is simple and there needs be no debate.it must pass. For those on the right if your representative or senator votes against it, vote against them in the next election. Let them know. I’ve worked in their offices and an irate caller and letter has impact. They look up your name and see you are registered Republican and they keep a tally and it has an impact.

Congress has become dysfunctional. The filibuster only makes it more so, and “we the people” can’t have a more dysfunctional Congress. Recent Congresses have produced less legislation than any in history. They need to get about doing the people’s business. They need to pass a budget… their #1 job, not continuing resolutions. And then balanced budgets! Less filibusters… more doing the job they were elected to do.

Make speaking at the podium for the duration of the filibuster. It ends when the speaker has nothing else to say.

This poll is faulty; it attempts to over-simplify what’s wrong with the Senate.

Bring back the real filibuster (recall the Jimmy Stewart movie, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.”) instead of the phony one that the Senate now employs. The “old” filibuster had the powerful effect of literally shutting down all other Senate business until someone gave in. And, in truth, stopping the Senate from doing business rarely hurts America.

In the early 1970s, the Senate made the two major changes to the filibuster. First, they allowed the Senate to put aside a bill being filibustered and deal with the other Senate business — thus no longer tying up the whole process. (This was a terrible move!) Second, they lowered the cloture requirement to three-fifths of the membership — 60 votes.

The result? Instead of filibustering being a Senate rarity, requiring prodigious stamina … filibusters are a regular part of the Senate’s business.

If you’re going to have a filibuster, make them do it right!

In my humble opinion, none of these tactics seem useful to the American people and give pause to those Senators who want to delay and bloviate for endless hours. It might have proven useful in the beginning, however, in today’s environment there’s more grandstanding and theatrics with no real resolution. The other tactic that needs serious consideration is shutting down the government. This should not be an option. These elected officials need to work together to resolve problems and if they can’t, then they should be the ones to not get paid.

Follow the Constitution. Majority vote rules. And, Congress is only to act on items in Article 1, Section 8. Anything else is none of their business; but, rather a function of the states.

Do away with the filibuster now and proceed getting bills passed that do support what our Nation needs. If or when the Dem’s are the majority they will end the filibuster and pass all the bills they can that result in destroying our great Nation.BTW it’s time folks like McConnell are no longer serving. We do need more like Sen Kennedy (La) in office.

Changing anything usually benefits the Democrats and that is exactly what they desire to happen.

We conservatives need to use the nuclear option for Save America Act. Failure to do so will jeopardize fair elections and allow the radical left to gain full control of our government. Once that happens, they will remove the filibuster, pack the Supreme Court, take away our guns, weaponize the DOJ, open boarders and persecute Christians. Mark my words, if we fail to pass Save America Act, we will open the gates to a One Global Power. Praying the Silent Majority will scream to their representatives for fair elections. It’s time to take a stand for righteousness. Amen ????

I voted eliminate because politicians today are incapable of compromise, and never pay for their gross malfeasance in office – innocent taxpyers do . Many of us are fed up with it since it’sjust anther ueless charade AND another excuse not to so their jobs without consequence. it takes too long to vote them out and blue districts/cities wil never will anyway as long as the “free stuff flows”. My blue city is a classic example of having electe the worst mayor in the city history, not once, but twice because thinking people don’t outnumber the non-thinkers.

The Senate filibuster should remain. It gives the minority party a voice in the deliberation of bills. HOWEVER, as it is practiced today it is nothing but a roadblock instead of generating discussion for compromise. Nowadays the minority party just says, “We’re filibustering this bill” without actually performing the filibuster. The allows the Senate to forget about the bill and go on to do other things. If the minority party, of either side, wants to filibuster a bill, then MAKE THEM ACTUALLY PERFORM THE FILIBUSTER. Somebody stands in the well and talks. And talks. And talks. NOTHING ELSE IN THE SENATE GETS DONE UNTIL A CLOTURE VOTE ENDS THE FILIBUSTER. in this way, everybody knows who is on which side, and where to affix responsibility for nothing getting done in the Senate. The way it’s done now nobody knows who is holding out, specifically. And possibly public opinion of their constituents will force something to break the deadlock.

But then again, I’m in favor of eliminating the general election of Senators and move the selection of Senators back to the State Legislature. After all, Senators are supposed to represent the concerns of the STATE. Not the people.

Bring back the talking filibuster. It won’t prevent the Senate from taking up important issues, since they don’t do much work anyway. The talking filibuster is what makes the Senate the world’s greatest “deliberative body.” And if John Thune can’t get the SAVE Act passed, kick him to the curb. He’s acting more like Moscow Mitch every day.

There should be a time limit of how long the filibuster is allowed to be invoked, (one filibuster, a 30 day time limit, then an open vote on the floor.). Also it should require as it used to be done someone actually doing work by actually speaking and trying to use words and information to persuade others and the people as a whole their view points. The Senate has gotten lazy with the existing way of doing things. They are paid to work, they make more than enough money to do so and they have garnished enough perks that 90% of the rest of American’s don’t have. I don’t feel sorry that they will have to work. If they are getting too old to do the job. Stop running for re-election and let someone else who is willing to do that actual work. McConnel….You are an example of needing to get out because you are no longer mentally and physically able to do what you were hired to do.

Filibuster is a useful tool however Democrats if in power would abuse it. Corrective measures should be taken to keep it. Another reason why Republicans must maintain house and senate in mid terms. The wackos on the democratic far right must. Be kept in the minority.

The GOP likes to think they play by the “rules”.
Misguided as they are.
The socialist democrats think the rules are a suggestion that are to be followed when and only when the “rules” benefit the socialist democrats.
The only thing of consequence to the socialist democrat is POWER.
To that end it is lie, cheat, steal.

None of your responses represent my view. Keep the filibuster as it was originally set up. No carrying on after breaks, do not allow that to create a 60 vote requirement when a 51 vote is enough without the disruption of a filibuster, and lock down the process so nefarious senate majority leaders cannot use it as a means of bypassing the will of the majority. Thune could use the original rules of the filibuster to let the demonrats hang themselves through their own words rambling on about why they want voters who cannot prove they have the right to vote, then hold the vote with a 51 vote requirement once the demons have ended their distraction. But Thune seems to not want that.

If the filibuster remains, it must be a REAL filibuster [ala Mr. Smith Goes to Washington]. The senators must TALK non-stop until they get tired enough to allow a vote! None of this “gentleman’s agreement” where they just SAY that they want a filibuster and get it. Regardless, the DIMMs will do whatever they want. They have no morals and no conscience!

The filibuster should be revised so neither political party has the capability for abuse. Democrats cannot be trusted they will lie, cheat and steal to attain power. Republicans need to grow pair along with a spine and get in lock step and advance their agenda like the left does. To many rhinos in the party.

I believe if they nuked the filibuster you still need senators with some wisdom and courage to fulfill President Trump’s agenda. We need secure and honest election laws to be put into place. If that happened, it would be very hard for democrats to ever be in power again. Keep your eyes on our Lord Jesus Christ and trust in God and his will.

Voted to keep filibuster, but I don’t think the left will keep it when they get back in & they will use that time to jam leftist policies down our throat. I would like to see a forced talking filibuster though. I know it’s time consuming, but important to bring it back. Once the left goes through their ā€œtalkingā€ filibuster, then the SAVE act can be enacted w a simple majority.

The filibuster has never been a part of our constitutional government nor was it endorsed by our founders. As implemented today, it has become a means to stall virtually all legislation without a 60 vote super-majority in the Senate which is foolish and detrimental. I support a modified filibuster that allows legislation to be temporarily delayed for debate, but that delay should be very limited.

It’s there for a good reason but, as anyone that knows how the government is supposed to work (which obviously there aren’t many of us, including members of Congress and the Senate itself) no matter if it left alone or reformed the politicians will abuse it. If the the Democraps ever again get control of both houses and the presidency we are done as a country and the Republicans will be guaranteed to never be in the majority again. All that matters to the Democraps is power. Not the country or its citizens!

First of all, we need to begin with intelligent people who can make common sense decisions. That being said; there might be numerous congressmen and senators that got to go first, because their brains stopped working years ago. I do agree with one thing, America First! And as far as some of these far left Democrats go, It’s America, Love It or Leave It! The Save Act should have 100% support.

While I am truly noy sure what the right answer is, leaving the filibuster is probably a good thing. I’m sure there are several times when had it not been in place, things would have been passed that would have been detrimental to Conservatives. While removing it might sound like a good idea now, just remember that the political winds DO change in this country, and what works for us now can be used against us in the future. If congress had the backbone and integrity it should have, it might not be as much of an issue.

Unfortunately, if the GOP Senate doesn’t eliminate the filibuster to accomplish its important agenda, the left will do it when they gain the opportunity. If that happens, history shows that they’ll move ahead on destroying the country as quickly as possible, with no restrictions or limits on dismantling our Constitutional principles.

We can no longer assume that the left has any intention of supporting and defending our constitutional republic. Tyranny and socialism is their clear objective.

I’m in favor of the filibuster, but with changes. I feel the changes should be anytime a filibuster is used by either party, the no pay for anyone goes into effect! All parties will NOT be paid for the time they can’t agree. I mean, that they are treated just like they are on strike against a company. They don’t get paid for that time frame, EVER!! I think that would determine where everyone actually stands on the subject, instead of where the parties stands on the issue.
