When is the last time you witnessed Congress followed the actual federal budget process? Well, it was in 1997. Since then, Congress has employed partisan options of omnibus spending packages, and continuing resolutions (CR) as temporary short-term fixes instead of passing an actual fiscal budget.

“It’s deja vu all over again” (thank Yogi). Once again, Congress has failed to pass a budget consisting of 12 appropriation bills for FY 2026 and instead relied on another CR. But this too failed because the radical, American-hating Left would rather die on the hill of healthcare and other welfare-type benefits for illegal aliens. As a result, the government is currently shut down.

Is that really that bad? Law enforcement, air-traffic control, in-hospital medical care (for citizens), postal service for our beloved junk-mail, border protection, power-grid maintenance, Social Security & Medicare will not be impacted by a shut down.

As DOGE revealed earlier in the year the waste and corruption in our bloated government, much bloat still remains. This is a golden opportunity for the Trump administration to trim the federal budget and reshape the federal workforce with irreversible cuts that will virtually go unnoticed, except by those who are under the federal employ. Perhaps they should have taken Trump up on his “deferred resignation” program in February. Perhaps he will offer another similar opportunity.

Bottom line: Congress needs to do their job in passing actual fiscal budgets! The opportunity to reduce the size of government doesn’t come around too often. Thanks to the Dem’s hunger for power by using the illegal invasion of our borders to gain votes is beginning to backfire! Get the popcorn…gonna be interesting!

When are people going to understand that Democrats care nothing for America and they will continue to pull their crap until they are voted out. Common sense is not something they understand. Tax paying Americans cannot afford to push what Dems spew . Trump will hold firm and not cave in on Dems wants. This country is heading in the right direction under DJT.

We’ve had shut downs before and survived. I would tell Republicans not to back down on this. Stand fast against Hakeem and company. The criminal aliens in this country do not deserve healthcare at our expense, nor should they receive it. If the illegals want it, they need to go to one of the criminally operated “blue states”, where their criminal politicians will give it to them at their citizens expense. While we’re at it, let’s go ahead and do away with all of the unnecessary government agencies and programs that are killing our country financially. President Trump has quite the opportunity here.

I don’t fit any of the choices. I hope this shutdown lasts at least two weeks. Gives the administration time to find those inefficient programs, agencies and employees that do not provide good value to America and the taxpayers. Get rid of duplicate functions. Use this once in a century (?) opportunity to reduce government and the employees. Use this opportunity to show the voters that LESS can be MUCH MORE! Make this successful and the MAGA majority will be large enough after the midterms to really support America’s return to EXCEPTIONALISM.

If Congressional pay stopped during a government shutdown, then they would have a little skin in the game, but as usual it’s the little guy or gal who gets squeezed. Hopefully voters will remember all the stupid crap drats wanted money for that caused this dreadful situation in the midterms!

CONGRESS is to Blame! ALL of Congress. Congress worked 184 days last year – they KNEW they were required to create 12 Appropriations Bills, yet they took the entire month of August off!

The Senate doesn’t actually HAVE to have 60 votes; Thune could have suspended that rule, but he chose not to.

Let’s face it; members of Congress on BOTH sides of “the aisle” are corrupt. Senators should reside in their home state. There should be NO PLACE in DC for the Senators. Congress seems to think they are an “elite” group, they have their own Social Security plan, their own “retirement” plans, their own health care plans, and they are exempt from following the law they make.

CONGRESS IS THE PROBLEM

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. ” President John Adam

Every day Congress proves the truth of these words. There is no integrity or accountability. It is all tribal and Congress is a collection of useless eunuchs.

I don’t think we know the truth about any of this. What I do know is that our government doesn’t operate in a responsible manner. We are 38 trillion dollars in debt. Every new spending bill puts us in greater debt. China is making strategic moves to replace the dollar as the worlds standard and our self serving representatives are handing it to them on a silver platter. Meanwhile our children have had such a poor education that they believe Marxism is a better form of government. They believe that when history proves otherwise.

I agree with Joni Ernst, cut 2 trillion dollars in spending and make DC feel the pain.

Fix our education system. Throw all of the Teachers Unions on the trash heap and burn them down. Educate our people to be able vote to in the interest of the nation, preserve our Constitution and ensure our status as the best and most powerful nation on the planet.

Having once worked for a Bureau of the Federal Government in the Payroll Department, I can tell you that Democrats do not give a fig about money wasted. It is not their money, There is more where that came from so it does not matter. And, I might add, after my experience, I wondered if other branches of the Government were run as wastefully as that one.

Democrats are only interested in securing the votes so they can maintain their cushy lifestyle and continue to line their pockets at our expense. They scream that they are protecting the poor, which is the biggest lie, not to mention the longest continuous lie that they have perpetuated since this Country was founded. The BIG LIE they want you to swallow now revolves around illegals and Health Care. They do not need Medicaid or no stinkin Obamacare, they go to the ER. If they need to be hospitalized for whatever, they are admitted. No Insurance needed. Guess who pays the bill. And Democrats want to ensure that what was in place during the Biden years will continue.

And anyone who believes that illegals do not Vote, please open your eyes. They are here to keep the Democrats in power and the reason we have a Government Shut Down.

Praying that the republicans stick to their guns on this one. Hopefully the illegals will self deport. These people are using our emergency rooms as their personal physicians and getting free healthcare because they know they can’t be turned away. The corruption the democrats have created is astounding.

Congress has not done their job in far too many years. They appear to run for office to see how much money they can pick up from various sources, NOT to work for the people. ALSO, when they are elected to the Senate and/or the House, they need to throw out their parasitism, and work for the American people.

The shutdown is 100% DIMM-caused! They voted for the last CR which was identical to this one! Chuckie must “stand tall” [a hard feat for him] to placate Sandy Cortez. He thinks he can hold off her primary challenge but I think she’ll run against him anyway. I hope so! Putting her radicalism against a good GOP candidate might get us a new senate seat!
People have too many REAL sources of information to fall for this BS propaganda promoted by CNN and MSDNC!

I’m just a little sad that our government is in such disarray. How can anyone expect us, the taxpayers, to pay for health care for someone in our country illegally? I find this amazing that this type of mindset is possible. We have had lawlessness under the biden regime administration that thought the taxpayers, the American people, could just open their pockets and pay for the healthcare of all the ones they the Democrats let in the country. I fault some of the previous Republican administrations, also, but the Dems have honed it to perfection. The government forgets that they have no money except for us, the little guy, paying them to have our country’s best interest at heart. Shame on them all.

The hypocrisy of the DemoRats is more clear every day the government is shut down. Schumer has led the opposition to a government shutdown in the past and the terms to reopen the government are similar to what he and other DemoRats have voted FOR in previous shutdowns. As for government employees not getting paid, most will be reimbursed at the end of the shutdown. The ones that should be facing a loss of wages, it should be the members of Congress, both parties, and no reimbursement after the shutdown is over. The attitude the DemoRats present that a trillion dollars in additional debt to reopen the government is pure lunacy.

Congress and the congressional staff need to be included as NON-ESSENTIAL and not get paid. Then maybe shutdowns would not happen.

It has been over 25 years since regular order and a budget been funded by Congress. 12 appropriation bills have been passed by the House and of course politics has kept them from any votes. The Democratic Communist party continues with serious TDS and wants to fundamentally change our Republic.

I have great solution to this problem if the Democrat’s want to give illegals and immigrants then the democrat politician’s in Washington D.C. can pay for their Healthcare. The American people are sick and tried of these people getting everything for free and hard working American people are rejected!!!!! I also think it is about time the American people decide then our leader’s in Washington D.C. get a raise or pay cut. When you work for a company the employee can not decide your raise the company does. Here is the raise 1%, 2% pay raise or -1%, 2%, 5%, -10%, 25% 50% pay cut.

While I feel sorry for the government employees who are worrying without a paycheck, this shutdown is a DOGE dream come true. It will show in no uncertain terms what jobs and staff can be eliminated entirely and allow functions to be consolidated – just like in the private sector. All of the jobs added under Biden can be swept away and positions filled with competent staff rather than DEI hires. The shutdown is a win for the US taxpayers.

Congress, ALL of them, should not take a salary until they can act like adults. I have read that a couple of Senators, Ashley Moody of Florida and another whom I can’t remember are donating their salary to charity for as long as the shutdown lasts. We aren’t hearing much about that in the news.

Dems have always wanted taxpayers to fund their pet projects, funnel tax money to back their biggest donors & give illegals more benefits than any citizen could possibly obtain. They have no interest in balancing the budget. They just want to burn through as much money as possible. I thank them for the opportunity to cut even more government waste, to eliminate totally unnecessary government departments – & especially for their continuing display of their true nature. – the more they rant, the more they fall back on their fear mongering tactics, fewer people will believe their lies.

Obamacare destroyed healthcare& dems stated it was the best. So if it is the best it does not require a penny of tax dollars. We have for we were forced to and it is useless for the cost. No illegal should have access to any government programs funded by tax dollars and must be deported. The democrats wasted trillions of dollars on green new deal, omnibus and infrastructure. We have a 37t debt and it is time to cut not spend. Everyone in congress is a millionaire & their pay should be cut. Not one of them is worth 174K and the same goes for president and vp salary and pension should be restored to 250k max.this shutdown should eliminate 30% of the federal workforce. O USAID, NPR, PBS, funding to NGOs, etc.congress must cut staff as well.

M Kruger

The idea floated by Ron Johnson is not good enough by the way. Instead of the default position of funding the govt at current levels every 14 days in the absence of a budget, I suggest that we fund the govt at 95% of the current level every 7 days. So every week, a 5% across the board budget cut. And any new budget approved after the cuts start will start at the reduced funding level. Also, no congressional pay for their dereliction of duty to pass a budget.

Think about this shutdown. Democrats ask for $1.5T. This is a ridiculous sum of money. It’s almost as if this shutdown is scripted. It is a ridiculous sum of money for a ridiculous cause. If this scene was in a movie, don’t you think the audience would be laughing, especially if said with a straight face? Democrats knew the President would use this time to shrink the government. The longer they engage in this clown show, the smaller the government gets. I predict when the government gets to a certain size (and both sides know that magic number(, the Democrats will cave.

Dems have ruled by temper tantrum for so long, they’ve lost the knowledge and wisdom required for meaningful negotiating.

2 quick examples in evidence:
– 30 years since the last truly complete Federal appropriations legislation and
– Unresolved wars, conflicts, and terrorism abounding during, or immediately following their grip on US government.

The radical Democrats are living in the past! It was not they that won the 2024 election, in a landslide, with a mandate to reign in government spending and eliminate the vast array of NGO spending that favored them! Now that it’s happening, and quite effectively, they are grasping at the only option they have to attempt to hold onto their own liberal efforts. This time it’s in full sight and not working! Only. time will tell how much Republicans have to give to re-open the government but one thing is certain, it will be a smaller government!!
