On May 27, President Donald Trump proposed that Canada either pay $61 billion to join the U.S. "Golden Dome" missile defense system—or become the 51st U.S. state and gain access at no cost. He claimed Canada was considering the offer, though Canadian leaders have strongly rejected it.

Should Canada consider becoming the 51st state of the United States?

Canada is playing right into the hand of our “Negotiator-in-Chief”.  President Trump does not want to Canada to be our 51st state to add more looney leftist socialists to our population. All he wants is to renegotiate a fair trade deal, have access to oil and rare-earth minerals, secure the border, and stop the flow of fentanyl.

Remember during Trump’s first term when he brilliantly renegotiated with Mexico and Canada to end NAFTA, and establish the USMCA on November 30, 2018. However, a five-year review was part of that negotiation, which is set for July 2026. Trump is just setting the table for such.

We don’t want all of Canada to become part of the US. But, I’d go for taking Alberta and Saskatchewan, with its abundance of natural resources and conservative citizens, in exchange for Oregon and Washington whose over-the-top liberal citizens hate law & order and America in general.

The practiced eye of a true ruler sifts the chaff from the wheat. Trump holds his card close to the vest, which drives the dems and the media mad!

“Leaders who know their business and care, keep a sharp eye out for the shoddy

and cheap. For who among us can be trusted to be always diligent and honest?”                                                                                                           Proverbs 20:8

While it’s not a serious initiative you have to love how Trump is constantly putting out proposals that are unique and make the Communists lose their minds.

Maybe we should do a draft or exchange for individual Canadians or Canadian resources for Communists in this country? For example, we could trade Rob Reiner for Wayne Gretzky; the entire cast of ‘The View’ for a couple hundred gallons of Canadian maple syrup; AOC for some Canadian lumber? Admittedly these would not be equal in value because we’d be getting brilliance and utility for worthlessness, but wouldn’t it be fun to watch the Communists’ meltdown? We thought they went nuts over a few Afrikaaners!!

Give Trump his due. He has a way to his art of negotiation. Canadians would defeat this overwhelmingly if it ever went to a vote. How their electorate would be added to our system is another issue that would not benefit the current establishment or the ongoing effort to return the country from where the Left and those that agree with the left have taken it.
The entire issue is shameless click bait for the MSM. Credit Trump in playing the media like a fiddle, to forward his negotiations with trade and defense spending.
Like the Orangeman or not, admire his bravery in approaching Canada on this outpoint, and using the media to press it forward.

No. No 51st state! Enough! Not Michigans UP, not Washington DC, not Canada, not anywhere. 50 is a perfect number. We’re not changing our flag or anything else.

I would be more favorable to bringing in some of the provinces in the west as separate US territories to start, but Quebec and Ontario? Nope. Don’t need more east coast socialists adding to the headaches we already have from our own New England socialists.

If Canada joined the US it would only add to our problems, for years Canada has taken in so called “refugees” which has destroyed it’s culture. We have enough issues of our own with other cultures in the US that refuse to assimilate.

I don’t want Canada as a 51st state but I would like to see a closer alliance with Canada, free trade between countries and it wouldn’t hurt Canada to contribute to the “golden dome”. We need to be prepared for China’s desire to rule the world.

Remember Canada during covid, awful to the people, stole money from truckers, and to church goers arrested pastors and leaders and jailed them. Too liberal, too authoritative, not a good fit for America. They can continue being trade partners and firm up their own borders.

The U.S. electorate doesn’t need 45 million more socialists. A better idea would be to split Canada with every province west of Ontario becoming the 51st state with Ontario, Quebec, and the east maritime provinces remaining Canada. As a sweetener, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire would become part of Canada. Canada would get rid of Alberta and the U.S. would get rid of Bernie Sanders.

This isn’t a serious proposal and we would want Canada to join anyway. Canada has 10 provinces. It would make more sense that the individual provinces would join as states which would dramatically shift the balance of power in Congress. Let them keep their extreme liberal nonsense, we’ve got too much of it here already.

If Canada joins the USA it will not be good. First, we would have to end every sentence with the interrogative, “eh?” and “Zed” would be imbedded in our vocabulary as well. I prefer Canadian Football to the NFL because they have a wider and longer field and the rouge, but they call too many penalties for silliness like something called “Unnecessary roughness.” The hockey team in Winnipeg is so lousy, that the city is thinking about changing it’s name to “LOSEnipeg.” Seriously, though, Trump is trolling them to make them take more pride in their nation and make a better deal on trade, and defense.

I do not believe it to be a serious proposal. To play the scenario, should it become an official offer, that would be a definite no vote from me. Taking on Canada would be akin to having a really bloated California on steroids. We have plenty of liberal problems as it stands.

I like Trump and approve of so much of what he is doing, but constantly needling Canadians is what boosted that commie Carney to succeeding Trudeau as Prime Minister. The Conservative candidate had a solid lead until Trump starting trolling Canadians. Why he chose and continues to choose to alienate an ally is beyond me.

I like President Trump, but a couple of his policies are totally ridiculous. This Canada is one. The Gulf of America was a waste of precious time and resources.
It takes away from where our focus needs to be.
I also think he’s playing with fire with Iran. He has no idea he’s playing with fire with blood thirsty jihadists. The more they stall us, the closer they get to becoming a nuclear power.
And I’m tired of the USA stonewalling Israel.
Let them do what they need to do… we’re not the ones running constantly to bomb shelters.
It’s all getting wearisome.

I don’t see this as a serious issue, but if it were to come about, it should break Canada into East and West. We don’t want anything to do with the East! I do support making many of these countries pay us in some way for their defense.

Having lived in Canada for 10 years, I saw Newfoundland wanting to stay independent in late 1940s, but were broke it considered joining America; Alberta type folks were more conservative and had a oil reason long ago to become part of the US. However, to me it seemed as if the majority of Canadians were becoming such socialists (since about 1970s when they got national medical care) that I think they might dilute us or constantly fight rather than add to our unity. I shake my head at those naive people who casually say they will go to Canada if such & such happens. After a 5 year process of applying for just residency to prevent leaving every 6 months, having 2 professional careers to use, holding money in the bank, purchasing a home, involving in community life, and attending their churches, I was rejected. Even the town clerk wrote a fabulous letter recommending me as needed citizen. Canada is fickle to the core possibly because of its parliamentary system. I look at Minnesota with its woke ideas + creeping socialism undoubtedly flowing across the border, and I don’t want Canadians to flow over here. However, many do come over here for better surgeries and shopping when their dollar is up and ours is down. I was in terrible accident 6 days after arriving to my purchased home. I found their medical folks had excellent training but no supplies. 🙁 We cannot glamorize what we do not understand. We’re making enough mistakes by not grasping the mindset of Middle Easterners. Enough said.
