Throughout President Trump’s first term, as well as thus far in his current term, his political enemies have underestimated Trump’s winning ways – especially when it comes to the economy. Trump tackles trade the same way he conducts business by utilizing leverage through negotiation.

Tariffs, when exerted through a master-negotiator, can be a double win. First, they level the playing field for American business, who for far too long have been taken advantage of by foreign trade, and they generate revenue to put the brakes on our insane borrowing/spending sprees.  The U.S. Treasury reported a $27 billion surplus for June 2025. Compare that to $71 billion deficit in June 2024, and a $227 billion deficit in June 2023.

The United States had such an enormous trade deficit with the rest of the world—amounting to more than $918 billion in 2024—other nations depend on access to our market as an outlet for their goods. The size and wealth of the American consumer base is unmatchable, and countries that are cut off from it can’t easily make up the difference somewhere else.

Trump is willing to give them access—for a price. Instead of imposing crippling tariffs to exclude foreign goods altogether, Trump is playing hardball, and is willing to strike a deal with anyone to allow goods to be sold in America at a price that makes the trade worthwhile for Americans and foreign companies alike.

The naysaying economists who swore tariffs would trigger disaster were wrong. They were wrong not just on the math but on the realities of power and negotiation. When tariffs can cut other taxes, open markets, bring jobs and production home, and give America leverage, that’s called “winning”…are you tired of winning?

“The Lord hates traders who do not use true weights. He is happy when they are honest and they use true weights.”          Proverbs 11:1

I find it laughable that libtards don’t care if other countries hit the US with tariffs costing our companies and consumers money but if the US does it as a means to play fair the libtards whine & cry, go figure.

The benefit of having a businessman in the White House is that someone finally understands the economy. Until COVID, Trump’s first term produced the best economy since Reagan. There is no reason to doubt that the same will be true in his second term. Re-privatizing the economy for growth will benefit all who chose to be productive. The Fed needs to begin advocating for growth and stop fearing it.

It’s too bad that we American’s today have to bear the brunt of what past administration did to our international economy. However, to make it fair and bring manufacturing back, it’s something that has to be done.

Unfair trade practices and tariffs have destroyed America’s manufacturing base and cost us millions of jobs. Best case is no tariffs anywhere but that’s never going to happen. The optimal case is equal tariffs, same rate charged by each nation. All that being said, America has been decimated by unfair trade practices so we need higher tariffs to bring in the revenue we need to pay down our debt and rebuild our manufacturing base.

So far, a lot of countries that have had tariffs raised have chosen to eat them rather than give up the US market. We’ve been suckers too long, subsidizing every other country at our expense. Time to truly level the playing field.

It is about time America is first. Trump is trying to bring countries who are ripping us off to the table. Initial high tariffs eventually brings lower cost and lower tariffs which will benefit both countries. The libs are going crazy but we need to toe the line as better times are coming. Then we need to move on to less government spending and bring the deficit under control for the survival of future generations.

Tariffs on products sold in America deserve equal tariffs on their products.

Tariffs were THE way our government raised revenue until the 16th amendment was passed in 1913 allowing the federal government to tax OUR income. Income tax quickly replaced tariffs and because it gave the feds intrusive power to support the tax scheme it would not have otherwise.

Understand that without the 16th amendment you would not be required to report everything about your personal finances, or be coerced to report what you have, and purchase, so you get tax deductions. The 16th gives the government greater oversight power over your bank accounts and investments than it should have.

In short, taxation is more about government controlling you than about raising revenue. I prefer tariffs!

American products made paying higher living wages cannot compete with the prices of cheap products coming in from abroad. It gives importers an unfair advantage. If something absolutely cannot be made here these products may not call for higher tarriffs but only if that producing country let’s us export to them as well (eg. coffee). Plenty of products can be made here. Company chose to go where labor is cheap so the profits are higher not necessarily to give us lower cost (eg. appliances, cars, athletic shoes). There are many. I say tarriff them heavy to motivate US production giving American conpanies a shot. Trump is doing the right thing.

All goods and services come from three conditions, farming, mining, and manufacturing. Of the three, manufacturing provides the greatest value stream, as well as invention. Before the WTO existed, the USA was the leading manufacturing country in the world, and the wealthiest. Some would call that isolationism, and they’d be right! USA first!

We MUST bring back manufacturing and other businesses to U.S. as a matter of national security. Covid and subsequent events have shown we cannot trust foreign powers, especially non-allies, to support us. We MUST become self-sustaining given the current geopolitical situation around the world.

Look back to WWII. One reason we won the war is that the United States had the manufacturing capacity to build the weapons we needed. We do not have that today. If we were to get into a war there is no way we could win. President Trump knows that. It is another reason for the tariffs. Another reason is to create a vibrant economy. Look at the GDP late in his first term after tariffs had been in place. “Business was booming.”

Free Trade would be great if other nations played the game on a level playing field, but they don’t. Some use tariffs to restrict our products from being imported, some manipulate their currency to make their products cheaper over here, etc. In short, they cheat at our expense. Fair Trade is what has always been needed, and President Trump is trying to force fair trade on a nation-by-nation basis using tariffs. Any short term pain will yield long term gains by doing so. He has enormous guts for fighting this battle in spite of his opposition internally as well as externally.I applaud him.

History of America and us making everything her is better made and not making other countries richer. It will take time to fix the issues, but worth it, keep American farmers and people healthy.

Also, tariffs will enable the U.S. to bring home critical industries such as computer chips, and safety related industries like pharmaceuticals, which also are critical to our health. I pray that we pass a law that top secret military equipment would only be made within our borders. Our federal government has given those contracts to foreign countries. Terrible!

Ultimately, tariffs, evens the playing field in trade and a free market economy. President Trump knows this and has watched and experienced us getting taken advantage of Why were we on the worse side of the deals? Who knows? Look at China, coming from the ash heaps of what Communism should look like after Mao to today, a Huge world power? Now how did that happen, exactly? Trump is balancing America is winning and China doesn’t like it! I believe that Nixon thought if China would experience a true “Free Market” capitalist society and they would change…BZZZZZ Wrong! America ended up bailing them out of poverty and mass starvation! and we the people suffered for it, ever hear of the “Rust Belt”? Well, it is still rusting!!!

As Americans, we should focus on buying goods produced here first. That’s the first step in showing the world the standards we hold. We have become acustomed to cheap, inferior goods from China. Tariffs are necessary, & have always been in place. For too long we have allowed other nations to put extremely high tariffs on American imports & exports – while paying very low tariffs to us in return. It’s essential to the growth of our Nation. Would you prefer paying higher taxes ??? Common sense people ..

Too many people are not in favor of the United States profiting and improving through tariffs. Too many people are only in favor of their own pocketbook. While it is important for people to take care of their own, it is just as important for leaders to take care of us nationally. It is important to recognize that countries like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, etc. are enemies of the United States and will do what they can to hamper and hinder the betterment of the United States.

Despite what some politicians want Americans to believe, there has never been fair trade because we have been paying tariffs to other countries for years which they would not import our products and enticed companies to their countries which hired their locals and put our people out of jobs.

We are far too dependent on other nations, our national debt is far too high. It is important to have fair trade practices globally. Go into any store, even craft stores, and look at the labels. Everything comes from China. Of concern to me as a retired healthcare provider is our dependence on other nations to produce medications and tech devices. Huge national security risk and safety risk. Our nation has important safety and quality control measure, especially important with medications. How did we get so dependent on others when we have the greatest technology and science expertise? We dumbed down our education system and exported our supply/demand.

Countries have been killing US jobs by selling their products here at little to no tariff, and then imposing extremely high, prohibitive tariffs on USA exports to their country. We need to level the playing field and help Americans. Our huge debt is the result of trade imbalance, giveaways (disguised as foreign aid), all the while using our people and money to defend the world. Let the politicians give their own money to other countries. They are rich through “shady” deals anyway.

For decades American products have had to compete with cheap foreign products here while American manufacturers have had to compete with high tariffs when exporting to other countries. President Trump is trying to make world trade a more even field in which American products can compete fairly. America cannot continue to be a dumping ground for cheap foreign products.

The Dark Left did say, many times, that tariffs would ruin us! Instead, they are a big win, and are bringing in mega dollars….I don’t see a big slowdown in imports, either. Pick up what you buy at the grocery, turn it over and look at the ‘Made In’ country. I’m seeing as much Canada as before, and why the heck are we importing Mars candy lookalikes from Turkey?? (they’re at Walmart, btw)

While Trade and Tariffs are great for tangible products, one thing POTUS is seriously failing at is bringing the I.T. and software jobs back home from India and overseas.

The biggest problem there is that US companies are continuing to outsource that work for pennies on the dollar, continuing to shift that work overseas, leaving the smartest of Americans out of work.

He should do some type of “incentive” on US companies, in the form of payroll taxing where American companies would be paying the same amount as if they would have just hired American citizens. And/or give payroll tax breaks when they hire those on American soil.

Say if a company has 10% foreign I.T./software workforce, they pay an extra X% on that 10%. 20% foreign workers = double the previous number. Etc.

Then incentivize to bring that work back home with tax breaks for a year or 2 when they bring those jobs home. Or something similar, so there is no financial benefit hiring foreigners. And make it worthwhile to bring that work back home.

Make American I.T. Great Again!

This poll misses the point. We need to produce steel, aluminum, pharmaceuticals and other products necessary for our national defense and well being. Our trade partners don’t play fair by putting non-tariff barriers in place. Our trade enemies suck our jobs out of the country. As we found out during COVID, we don’t produce our own pharmaceuticals or medical devices. As Trump has pointed out, we can’t switch to EVs if we keep importing the batteries or the raw materials to make batteries. This activity is now in China’s hands. China is not our friend. The Communist nation has a long term goal to dominate trade and dominate the world militarily. Sure, no tariffs sound great and in a world where we have no enemies it would be the best system. This is not where we now live.

I believe this is a catch 22. Tariffs will increase the cost of goods and services coming into our country, but I also see the benefits of equal trade agreements. It is bringing companies back to the USA and in turn creating jobs for American citizens and I would hope will eventually decrease the cost of goods and services in this country

Why should America play by rules no one else follows?
Other nations protect their industries. They tax our farmers. They flood our markets with cheap goods while we tie our own hands with regulations.
Tariffs level the playing field. Tariffs protect American workers. Tariffs keep America strong.
I’ll always choose America First.

Common sense tells us that Americans can not survive if we spend all our money on imports, and send all our money to other countries. We need to regulate imports in such a way to insure their quality, and to make American goods competitively priced to keep our economy stable. We once were the leader in tech. and innovation, with “Made in Japan” holding a negative meaning for cheap inferior goods. Now we are Chinas laky. We have done it to ourselves with consumers only looking at price, and not quality, or the labor standards under which the goods were produced. The unions while good for employee rights also increased the cost of domestic goods through demands for higher wages that were then passed on into the cost of the goods. And then all the in-fighting over schools blurred the focus off education and onto racial diversity, which has lowered the quality of education to the point that other countries now have the intellectual lead for new innovations and tech. advancement. Throw in the other distractions in the learning institutions of gender politics and political indoctrination, and we fall farther behind. I applaud Trump for trying to back track to when “Made in America” meant something, and to bring our jobs back stateside. There is nothing wrong with other nations setting up shop in this country to avoid import tariffs, as long as they employ American workers, so the money from wages stay here and keep our economy going. But, we the people, need to support the American worker too, and tariffs help to level the playing field by making goods cost competitive, or close enough to allow national pride to play a part in buying decisions too.

Donald Trump is the greatest President of America ever. He has no equal. No one has done more to advance the cause of Americans in the world than he has. He has also signed more peace deals world wide than any president in history. He has reduced inflation to record lows while increasing wages. The only other time that has happened was in his first term. He has restored America to world standing as the greatest nation ever. Democrats are leaving the party to vote for Trump and other Republicans in droves. Thousands every day. God Bless him and may he have long life and many blessings.

The key to international trade is FAIRNESS! And, there are a few national security manufacturing, mining, smelting and refining, industries that must be maintained in the USA, like steel, lead, copper, energy, etc. Some emission standards may have to be waived for these necessary industries to stay economically viable in the USA, sorry!

When I had to pay a higher price for imported knock off items, it only made sense to buy something I could return easily and not have to wait 7 weeks to clear customs. I realized I was buying “local” as it was and that I could be helping the small business owner next door or my own economy. It was a little more but after shipping costs were added it was the same price anyway for something I wanted to buy.

This is a poll where the choice of “not sure” would have helped. I don’t know enough about tariffs to have an opinion. I think trade is good, generally, but it should be more fair if possible.
